Mainly I'm asking because I'm incredibly poor and looking for cheap ideas for next year. So far I have bought the boquet of roses (how traditional), shaved my chest and wrote in Sharpie marker "I <3 Lauren" (how strange). I'll let you know how well it works, but so far my advice is not to use "I <3 Lauren" if her name is Trisha. Trisha probably can't be confused with Lauren.

I've dated four Katies in a row, several of which have overlapped at the same time. So, I just put a blog post up that says; " I love Katie" and everyone seems to be satisfied. Ironically, I'm going out tonight with a girl named Rhea... She doesn't read my blog, hehe.

I spend today driving my girlfriend to the airport. She was here in Indiana for a couple weeks, visiting. And today she flies back to Boston. Sigh.

For the incredibly poor: if yo not really a cook, making her a tight meal (candles, inexpensive wine. . ) will make her smile. Which of course leads to your smiling.

How has this not been made into a romantic comedy already? "Best" strategy ever. I've been going to classes today. I'll be getting some roses later, though.

Luckily she doesn't really dig Vday, so Im not up for alot. I photoshopped up a little note card that simply said "Every Beautiful Woman should get a kiss on Valentine's Day", and left it on her desk (i work with her) with a red caramel hershey kiss on top it.
Sometimes the creative simple approach is the best.

Three girlfriends in a row had their birthdays either on or very close to Valentine's Day. This is good, because it's a lame holiday, so I don't feel like buying double gifts just because it exists. F that.
I bought her birthday present at a jewelry store during a christmas sale because they had too much stock. I went back to see what they want for the same piece today and it's like three times as much now. Mise.

My grandfather died today. I was raised by him, as my parents were divorced when I was 14. I was raised before in that time too, as my parents were addicted to hard drugs when I was growing up, and he took on the task of raising his first grandchild. He died by having water around his lungs and heart, and basically drowned to death from the inside. Gladly, my grandmother put him on Morphine, which not only sped up the process, but had it relaxed him a good deal.
He was Catholic, and attended mass very regularly. The priest gave him his late rites before they gave him Morphine, and he was completely concious to the end. I got to talk to him on Sunday, and I told him I loved him very much, and he said to not worry about him. He sounded great.
I'm the religious one in the family (oddly enough, I doubt any of you could really tell as I don't talk about it often), and so most of my family is looking to me to say that he went to heaven, which I don't believe I have the right to say.
My family is the closest family on the face of the earth. My family is Catholic, and I have 12 younger siblings, (6 brothers, 6 sisters), about a million aunts and uncles, billions of cousins, and a ton of great aunts/etc.
We all (no joke, ALL) live within a few blocks of one another. My grandfather was the super-patriarch of the family, and we all thought we were going to absolutely just totally lose it when he died. Surprisingly, by the grace of God, we're all doing fine, but are very sad (understandably).
Aside from the depressing state that I was in all day, I got to talk with my girlfriend for a little bit, which really comforted me. She's a part of the family, (my family likes her better than they like me), and she's going up to see them on the weekend (she lives in Delaware).
I'm in Tennessee right now, and in all likelyhood will be leaving tomorrow to go up and see my family. I'm the only one more than a mile away from my house, and I feel very, VERY alone.
I'm also taking his death harder than anyone, (aside my grandmother) and it doesn't help that I'm so far away from home.
If you could, please say a prayer for me and my family, especially for safe travels on the way up. Also, I don't need a million posts on this thread saying, "I'm so sorry," and, "I hope you recover soon," or "If there's anything I can do...", because not only have I heard it from a hundred or so people today, but I don't want this to be the highlight of this thread. All I want is a little prayer.
To end on a better note, I'm doing alot better now than I was earlier today when I found out. (He died at 7:45 AM, and I found out around 11 AM).
He told me on Sunday to keep living my life as normal, and to not go all crazy, and I've been doing just that. Heck, I played a game of Magic with Travis over MWS. Travis wanted to say no, but I made him play.
On a much better note, my grandfather might very well be the greatest Steelers fan of all time, and they won the superbowl. My grandfather watched it and was very, very glad. I was ecstatic that he lived to see the Steelers win. I actually feel like God blessed my family with football this year, as weird and peculiar as that may sound. When the Steelers do well, our family is happy.

I'm really sorry for your loss. I recently lost my Grandfater as well, and I know that it really sucks. I hope you feel better, and I wish your family the best.

Thanks. I'm leaving today to go home. I got to talk to my girlfriend yesterday and wish her a Happy Valentine's Day, even though the "happy" was in vain. We can pull through it together though. She's a huge blessing for me, and just generally an enormous support to load my weight on. So it's not all bad guys.

I lectured a lonely, dateless girl on how it's not "love" that she hates but the commodificaiton of love, sex, and interpersonal relationships in consumerist, late-capitalist post-modern society that allows a practice such as Valentine's Day to exist.

Cooked dinner w/ the G/F
fillet mignon, wrapped in bacon w/ parsley and brushed butter (gogo heart attack!) + mashed potates augratin with roasted/hand chopped garlic and chives + steamed snow peas + New York SUper Fudge Chunk + chocolate milk.
No gifts, no cards, no flowers b/c we feel it's better to give gifts when it is unexpected, keeps it from feeling tacky, or cheap.
