Beatles music is often beautiful. Most music can't manage that.

Then don't listen to most music.  I'm not saying that the Beatles sucked or anything, I'm just trying to convey the thought that they are very much over rated.  They were THE band, influencing modern pop music today like no other.  I am not denying this, nor am I saying that I don't like listening to the Beatles on occasion.  The problem lies in the fact that the Beatles are "easy listening" and other than songs like Strawberry Fields, I really don't see much depth or reasons to really get into the music.  The Beatles were popular because of the easy listening factor and this is what the majority of music listeners (Westerners, especially) are ONLY capable of listening to.

The Beatles music does what it intends to do.  That's why it's good.

What I'm proposing that there are bands around today that do this better.  You want a catchy melody and little else; listen to the Beatles or any other mainstream rock/pop band.

Bear in mind that a lot of the stuff Lennon and McCartney wrote was basically album filler for the sake of getting another album onto the market as quickly as possible. Despite that, when they were on, they were really on, and even a lot of their filler is still better quality than most bands were capable of. The other thing to remember is that they were first. Obviously there were bands and solo acts before them, but when the Beatles came onto the scene, there wasn't really much in the way of established guidelines, so they had to create a lot of them, much as Mozart heavily influenced those who followed him in Classical music. A lot of their stuff seems cliché now, but when they were doing it, it wasn't cliché, it was new.

Just because it's better than most, why listen to it?  All of you fail to answer this question other than by saying it's good.  The lyrical content isn't there (mostly), sheer instrumental skill isn't there; what IS there is the "catchiness" of their tracks.

All in all, the Beatles have had a huge effect on popular music, I just don't propose listening to popular music; especially in these dark times in musical history.

While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

Wasn't that done by George Harrison solo?

No its on the White Album. But it is written by George Harrison. In many ways White is like a compilation of Solo stuff from Paul, John, and George.

I am almost 100% sure Eric Clapton played guitar on that track even though Harrison wrote it.

Also I suggest many Beatles fans should check out Deep Purple's cover of Help its REALLLY GOOD.

Harrison played the track, Clapton only did the solo.  Harrison had played on Cream's "Badge" whom he wrote with Clapton and Starr, and so Clapton was returning the favor.  There is also rumor that Clapton was asked to play on "Weeps" by Lennon and McCartney when George became angry and walked out of the recording session.
