And...I think the best solution for this card is the X+1. Just because they don't do it often doesn't mean wizards wouldn't print a card that is most elegantly printed with X+1 in it.

 Besides, this just opens the door for card submissions that deal XX-1 divided by 3, rounded up, amounts of damage to things. And who wouldn't want to see that?

I come from a country that teaches Maths rather than Math. The ability to understand plurals is very useful.

Yes, I do approve of Niv-Mizzet's flavour text. It is original, fits the card and as a one-off I can live with it. Then again, given my Maro-esque track record of writing flavour text (Focus Mind aside), perhaps I'm not the best person to ask.
