Anyone remember this obscure little number? If you look through Odyssey block, and in particular Judgment, you'll see quite a few cards which are made better by the opponent having an empty graveyard. I've had the idea of building a deck around that theme on hold for around 2 years, but with a few new cards I think I can-  finally begin to make it work.

The deck:

// Lands
    4 Underground Sea
    4 Polluted Delta
    3 Cabal Pit
    4 Underground River
    4 Swamp
    3 Dimir Aqueduct

// Creatures
    4 Withered Wretch
    3 Quicksilver Dragon

-Quicksilver Dragon is a little-used but very strong blue fattie. Keiga and Kokusho would be the obvious alternatives, but Quicksilver is still an excellent creature. His added bonus is that he can be bought for about 1/4 of the price of his Kamigawa buddies Smile.

- Cards which like empty graveyards:
    4 Mist of Stagnation
    4 Gravestorm
    4 Lost in Thought
    4 Web of Inertia

- Web of Inertia is easier to break through than I would like, but it's the only card available. Lost in Thought is rock solid playing at being Arrest for around 90% of the time, and is crappy for the remaining 10%. For 1U, though, it's not too bad.

-Cards which make graveyards empty
    4 Scrabbling Claws
    4 Leyline of the Void

- I couldn't have come up with many better fantasy cards for this deck than Leyline of the Void. If it comes out of your opening hand all of the empty graveyard cards suddenly become incredably unfair. If it comes out later, it's still strong.

-Misc others:
    3 Mental Note
    4 Mana Leak

- Grip of Amnesia might look like a synergistic replacement for Mana Leak, but it really is too easy for the opponent to just ignore, even when you're aiming at an empty graveyard.
- Mental Note is used because it sometimes happens that you have trouble breaking out from under your own Mists. It could be Brainstorm, Impulse, Serum Visions or whatever else you can think of if that proves unnecessary.

So, any thoughts? I've yet to acquire the various obscure rares this deck wants, so if you have any suggestions, it would be good to hear them Smile

It seems like a fun deck to play.

Couple notes..
I would say because so much of your land can produce blue... and because its causal (so you dont have moxen) You should get bear knuckle UU "Counterspell" over mana leak.

Originally I was thinking that scrabling claw was bad, and that tormod's crypt would be infinitely better... but I could see that the scrabling claw's ability to sac itself and draw a card would be nice as a cantrip when you dont need the additional GY hate.

I have a deck similar to this.  I find the best counters to be Dissipate and Memory lapse because neither of them send the card to its owners graveyard.  Remand has some possibilities too.

Phyrexian Furnace does the same thing, but its bottom card,not card of their choice, so its a little better.

I found that Crypt is worse not so much because of the lack of cantripping (although that's a big thing), but because its graveyard stripping effect is a little less useful. Crypt lets them recover afterwards, and it's much less good for eliminating small graveyards, which this deck tends to produce. The constant pressure from Claws/Furnace can keep the grave under control much more easily than one big hit from Crypt. As for why Claws over Furnace, it's because I already own Claws and can't be bothered to buy Furnaces Smile

I didn't go for the temporary counters (Lapse/Remand) because I've found that I'm already very efficient at stripping graveyards, and I'd rather have the ability to just say 'no' to stuff than the small amount of extra synergy. I'll have to test out whether I can run Counterspell or Dissipate (I used Leak on a sort of autopilot) - I'd kinda forgotten how good my mana is Very Happy.

this is only a suggestion and all but id defintly run atleast 1 tormod's crypt, and maybe nezumi graverobber would be worth a try, it may be slightly slow and vulnerable to creature kill but it could be quite good if you drop it early game
