Lets say I have Counterbalance in play and my opponenet plays a mox. I flip a land as the top card of my library; is the mox countered? Is having no CMC the same as having a CMC of 0?

CMC of 0 is still a CMC, whereas not having a CMC is just not having a CMC, so the mox would resolve.

I belive that's wrong.  The CMC of a token is 0, just because there's no 0 up in the corner of a land does not mean the land  flipped would have a CMC of 0.  Antoher point is with Dark Confidant, the CMC of a land is 0, thus you don't take damage.

The Mox would be countered. Whenever the game asks for a value which is undefined, the game returns a value of zero. This applies to CMCs as well as to creature cards like Lhurgoyf (when they're not in play).

Every card has a converted mana cost.

203.1a. Lands normally have no mana cost. Tokens have no mana cost unless the effect that creates them specifies otherwise. A copy of an object copies that object's mana cost.

When there is no value for something that's asked, such as converted mana cost, it defaults to zero.
