I'd like to congratulate ReAnimator as the winner of 3CB Tournament #79!
A better turnout this week, although there are more second decks than usual. However, despite the Lotus decks showing even more creativity this time around, the top three decks were all old classics.

It's the second Lotus tournament of TMD, and it's a good mix of decks. The Lotus decks are very interesting this time around, generally being somewhat more resilient than last tournament's MaskNought.

For next week: Same Again!

What is 3cb?

3-Card Blind (3CB) is a very unique game. The rules are as follows

Your deck is composed of 3 cards, all of which start in your hand.
You have no library (technically, the library exists, but starts at 0 cards) and no sideboard (Wishes fetch nothing).
Random effects always go in your opponent's favour.
You can see your opponent's hand, so you can always make the best possible play.
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card.
You will play each opponent twice, once going first, once going second.
For each win, you score 3.
For each draw, you score 1.
For each loss, you get nothing.
Other than the aforementioned, EVERYTHING IS HANDLED EXACTLY LIKE A REAL GAME OF MAGIC!

We're back to normal, so to make an entry, PM your deck to combo_dude in the following format:

Subject: 3cb Tournament #80 Entry or 3cb Tournament #80 Revision
Deck Name
Card #1
Card #2
Card #3

Optional Deck discussion, random sucking up, etc.

Entries close after 2 weeks. Get your entries in by 25th June. Send your decks to combo_dude to calculate. Edit: It's still a Lotus-legal tournament - by normal, I mean that combo_dude is running it again.

Thanks,
Craig

Woot, 2nd place again.

So, wait, are we back to normal, or still doing Lotus rounds? Because the banned list and the sentence under the rules conflict.

Lotus is still legal - we're getting an interesting mix of decks, so I'll keep this for another tournament or two and then get some opinions. If you've got anything to say about the formats, then post them here or PM them to me with your decks.

4.   LotusHead   -   AeonFlux.dec   -   Kataki, War's Wage,   Karakas,   Mishra's Factory
Vs
2.   Franz Ferdinand   -   Please Don't Play MaskNought   -   Sand Silos,   Energy Field,   Darksteel Reactor
I don't see a way for Franze to handle Kataki's mini flux Badness. A draw for the match, yes? Darksteel Reactor goes way of dodo while Kataki stares hopelessly at Energy Field

4.   LotusHead   -   AeonFlux.dec   -   Kataki, War's Wage,   Karakas,   Mishra's Factory
6.   Kaesh   -   Shhhhhh   -   Black Lotus,   Treasure Hunter,   Aura of Silence
This game should be draw also, yes? He can't stop turn 2 Kataki to lay beats down.  His Aura can deal with my factory should I ever activate it.

Franz v. LotusHead: How about Franz just pays {1} each turn?

LotusHead v. Kaesh: Looks like a draw to me.

How about choosing a non-legend creature? Otherwise he is a UG instant Wrath of Frog.

Lotus: Since Energy Field is on the field, I can store Sand Silos up to about 100 counters, which will give me enough to play Reactor and keep it alive.

Yay I won!

I find it highly amusing that i submitted the same deck last time and it was decidedly mediocre and this time it won the prize.

I like the lotus format for now, I think the no lotus format was getting way stale and this is more interesting at the moment. My favorite are the wacky formats but i understand that they are more annoying to come up with and figure out.

I have to agree. I originally was wary of Lotus, but it's not too bad. And as for wacky formats, over at M-L I just ended one of the dumbest format ideas I've ever come up with, and Saprazzan Cove-Darksteel Reactor-Energy Field still took it away.

As others have said, this is a win by way of building up the Silos until there's enough mana to pay the upkeep of Reactor (side note: if he couldn't keep it alive, the correct play would be to not play Reactor).

Fair enough - I was thinking that Karakas can return Kataki to hand, but it can't do that on the turn after playing Kataki, what with being tapped and all, thus giving Treasure Hunter a one-turn edge (in other words, they end up staring at each other).

Amusingly, these matches brought up the round robin match, that being 2 vs 6 (we're looking at 2 vs 4 and 4 vs 6 above), and I suddenly realised that Aura of Silence can kill Energy Field, thus reversing that result... Very Happy

I really enjoyed the format, though, so I think it should stay like this for a while. Maybe we should ban Energy Field or MWS, or both, just for a couple of tournaments to shake things up a little.

More decks would be great - I've hardly got any at the moment! Second decks are also being accepted.
