I have heard a few people say they will be skipping Charlotte to attend this annual convention:

We’re pleased and excited to announce the first Origins Magic: the Gathering Championships! Scheduled mini-qualifiers will run from Thursday to Saturday, with the winner of each getting into a Sunday afternoon invitation only sealed deck championship event. There’s also a 16 slot Origins Championships Qualifier on Saturday. Over $10,000 in prizes - 32 entries into Origins, $3200 in prize money, product prizes, trophies and the Championship title are up for grabs!

I am guessing that players from the midwest would rather drive to Ohio than North Carolina. Is this true for others as well, like players in NE? Will there be any team rivaly at this event?

My dad and I have been going to this thing for eleven years, and I've never once failed to have an amazing time there.

As for this $10000 tournament, does anyone have details about it? Like what the prize structure is? Also, are the qualifiers sanctioned -- I'm proxying a couple cards at the moment (yes, there is a type one qualifer for this )
