Hey MAJOR congrats to TMD user LSV (Luis Scott-Vargas) for making 3rd place at US nationals to earn a spot on the national team!!! magicthegathering.com covers it and you can also check out for info on it @ http://norcalmagic.proboards79.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=winners&thread=1154139075&page=1

Yet another T1 player showing that there really is some skill being used in our format ;p (shhh...we wont tell anybody that he plays other formats...we will let T1 claim him for our own!)

Congrats Luis!

Just to re-iterate, Luis (and teammate Webster) have been pwning the NorCal scene here for the last 2 years (er, during the time that I've been a part of it).

Web posts on TMD some, but Luis almost never.  Luis keeps up on everything Vintage.  I know because he tells me about posts I've made. He is  a vital part of our (NorCal)  active community.  He activly pwns face and plays smart and sophisticated.

I was aware that he had a T2 thing in him (lots of us play booster drafts at our local shops), but he took 13th in London a year or so ago (which is cool), but to be on the National Team?!?!? Hot stuff!

Congrats.

Pro-Tour Promo Card Luis, that would be cool.

(I actually want a signed Webster card, but Luis will do too. Smile )

That's Luis wearing cloths that match. Whoot! All of us in NorCal are so proud! (even though we are barely aware of what these newfangled T2 reports are talking about!)

It should be of note that the NorCal vintage scene is going to lay claim to Alex Kudlick as well (top 8 and NorCal native) as I have played a large amount of games with him and even made him play some T1 with me from time to time (this includes getting him to play in a big 10 man event at our shop where he used of all things UR Fish back when UR Fish was actually the type of Fish you wanted to be playing, heh). Always good to see somebody from my local small town shop hit the "big time."

Maybe it will lay to rest any questions people might have had about just who is playing out here in California.  Razz

I noticed that one of the Seattle area vintage players: Brett Allen has moved to NorCal and been doing quite well in your tournaments.

Team Vacaville members were asking about him, as he seemed to show up starting around April or so, powered and proficient.  (I've played against him twice, and he beat me both times).

Nice guy, plays ballzy decks and regularily top-8's here.

Is Alex Sacromento people? Placerville kind? Outer Davis fringegroups? (like LSV)? I have to re-check MTG.com's reports...

By "Nationals" and "National Team of Magic for America", we are talking about 3 people (plus 1 alternate) out of the entire U.S. Meta? (Standardly Speaking?)?

Team America! Fuck Yeah! (NorCal Pwns all formats  )

mtg claims alex as hailing from Sacramento, but that might just be birthplace (as it shows Luis from Oakland and not Davis where he lives currently)

Alex used to play in Cameron Park (near placerville, heh) regularly till he went to school or something of the sort (probably in sacramento) I havnt seen him in several months, but its nice to know he has stepped up his game.

California did rock Nationals though...
