Putting the "ew" in Jew since '87!

I was looking through some old forums from last year, and Brain Demar's posted one about an All-Star team for 2005. I'm curious what you guys think is the 2006 All-Star team, I think this year the numero uno players took a huge shift. WHO MAKES YOUR LIST?

Pick 10 players that really stood out (I think 15 is too many) and really are the well, all-stars.

I guess someone will tally up the votes like last year, I think Vroman won last year...

My vote is...

Tommy Kolowith
Jeremy Seroogy
Dan Carp
Ben Carp
Eric Becker
Stephen Menedian
Mike Hetherington
DAVE FEINSTEIN
Ben Kowal
Elias Vaisberg (I had to)

Popularity contest time!  I count SCG tourneys with ~50 to be local tourneys.  I don't know enough about European results to comment on them.

Eric Becker
TK
Feinstein
Nate Pease
DicemanX
iamfishman (who also has infinite top 16 appearances and numerous local tourney top8s)
Paul Nicolo
Brian Demars
Mike Hetherington
JDizzle who always seems to be on the bubble in big tourneys, but mops up at local ones.

Peter O.
Shay
Kowal
TK
Feinstein

Honorable mention goes to Ray (iamfishman) since I'd have to assume he wasn't actually running an awesome tourney instead of playing in it.

That's about it.

You totally ripped off my thread!!!!!

I have been anxiously waiting until it had been a full year to put up the Vintage All Star team 2006 thread.

You didn't even include the fing rules!!!!  If you are going to steal my thread at least do a decent job.

Anyways,

Brian "The Kabuto Moth" Demars
Paul Nicolo
Eric Becker
Dave Feinstein
Tommy Kolowith (sorry, I'm the only one who gets to go by initials Very Happy)
Stephen Menendian
Ben Kowal
Rich Shay
JD (yeah, fuck it, I'm voting for myself)
Arend Kraehling

Arend has like infinite T16 finishes this year.  I always say that skill gets you to the T16, and that you need a little luck to get to T8.  The person who comes in 8th is just usually a little luckier than the person who finishes 9th, since breakers depend on things you absolutely cannot control (who knew that my 3-0 4th round opponent actually sucked and was going to lose the next 4 rounds in a row?).

Christ.  9th (by less than 1% at that!) at the last SCG I played at and 11th at Gencon.  What a disaster.

I also don't consider an SCG with 50 people to be a "major event."  100+ people makes for a major event.

LOL.  Now, I'm don't know a lot about geography, but I thought Canada had more than one person.  I mean, I'm pretty sure Canada has at least 23 people.

I can see the headline now: In an unprecedented move, an entire nation, Canada, was elected to the 2006 Vintage All-Star Team.

You can stop adding me to your lists.  I'm pretty much retired at this point.

DA, you forgot demarsfan4lyfe's pal, jdizzlefan4lyfe.  Clearly, those two are an inseparable double play combo that need to be represented together.

Well, last year, you quit halfway through the year and then bitched when no one put you on their lists. Very Happy  Besides, an all-star team is a list of people who have had a good past season.  Clearly, your past 10 months of play was one of the best in Vintage.  Just because you might never play again and repeat that success doesn't mean you don't deserve commendation for the last year.

Man, poor Blessed Wine Guy. I deleted all his posts before he could get any name recognition at all.

Also, I'll edit in the inverse of DA's list later, maybe.

Eric Becker - Plainly Defined Vintage innovation and results more than anyone this year.
Rich Shay - Rich Shay
JDizzle - 2.5c long ftw
TK - amazing finishes with variety of decks
MoxLotus - Great thought put into non-traditional decks that performed
Teh Salad (13Nova) - Small changes to mediocre decks + out of the box ideas = insanity in vintage
SMemmenarch - Overanalysis forgiven, if the unknown only know one name in vintage, this would be it.
Brian Demars - Dedication to a deck most see as dead, with performance to back it up
Dave Feinstien - I heard that Dave Feinstien once broke vintage with Llanowar Elves
Mike Long - Grimlong, 5c long, pitchlong, long.dec, 2.5c long...this guy must be good.

You could toss in a "manager" slot.  That way you have a place to put Ray!

How is Herbig not on any of these?

At SCG events he's 2 for 2, and at P9 events (included the Baldwinsville debaucle) he's 3 for 5 (for T8s) including a 2nd place finish (sure he doesn't get to go to every P9 event, I still think turning $150 into 2 Moxen and an Ancestral based on skill is some good).
