Shambling Insect
{2} {B}
Creature -- Insect
4/1
~This~ blocks each turn if able.

Just another high power-to-casting-cost black creature with a drawback. Your opponent can almost always choose to trade their smallest/weakest guy for this guy.

How about choosing a non-legend creature? Otherwise he is a UG instant Wrath of Frog.

Isn't this a very green ability.  Insects are traditionally green, and black is much more likely to get "Can't block" than "Has to block".

Make it a skeleton and it'll feel more Black. In addition , apart from Will o the Wisp, Skeletons are traditional blockers.

Its a nice limited card I suppose, which is good.

I agree with making it a skeleton

Yes,Tarmogoyf is probably better than Chameleon Colossus, but comparing it to Tarmogoyf is like comparing your girlfriend to Carmen Electra - one's versatile and reliable, the other's just big and cheap.(And you'd run both if you could get away with)

Made it a skeleton. It was originally an insect as a comparison to Giant Cockroach, and becuase insects are often have high power-to-toughness ratios. How does this compare to other drawbacks? I think it's not quite as bad as "must attack". You can still hold him back to trade with an opponent's creature if you want, but your opponent can force your hand if he only attacks with his worse creatures.

The curse of a card people agree with - few replies. Take it as a complement!

This is probably the reason behind the lack of "simple" cards and cards for limited. People want to make cards that will generate discussion.

Technically, I'm not actually sure this has a drawback, since if it survives its summoning sick turn, it will just attack each turn and never be able to block.

Yes, but then it has a drawback similar to "must attack each turn". I'll admit it is a rather weak drawback. But it's a 4/1 for three. It's not exactly breaking the power-to-CC record. It's one mana less than Giant Cockroach, and one less toughness. The low toughness makes the drawback worse, as it can always be forced to trade (on attack or block) with an opponent's worst creature.

My point is that black is more likely to get "can't block", red gets "must attack each turn" and it's rarely a drawback anyway.

Technically, I'm not actually sure this has a drawback, since if it survives its summoning sick turn, it will just attack each turn and never be able to block.

Of course it needs to survive a full turn first. An opponent is likely to send a dork over to trade (or heaven forbid, a 1/1 first striker!). Flavour-wise this could represent the classic skeleton pulling itself out of the ground, once out it is formidable, but if caught early any fool can kill it.

You're right.  Also "Blocks each turn if able" is interesting, especially because you have other creatures that can also block.  Objection rescinded.

I think the low toughness helps this feel more black. It makes the drawback completely different than if it were on a tougher creature. It creates a lot of interesting situations.
