Cadaverous Bloom was a part of one of the earliest combos in Magic: ProsBloom.  Can it now be updated into Vintage and made into a high-tier deck?

I am currently testing this list:

Mana

3 Bloodstained Mire
3 Polluted Delta
2 Bayou
2 Underground Sea
2 Island
2 Forest
2 Swamp
6 Solomoxen (Chrome, Emerald, Jet and Sapphire)

Creatures

4 Elvish Spirit Guide
4 Bog Initiate
3 Blood Celebrant

Spells

4 Dark Ritual
4 Duress
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Daze

Draw:

1 Ancestral Recall
1 Timetwister
4 Night's Whisper

Engine:
3 Cadaverous Bloom
1 Consume Spirit
1 Drain Life

Bent Stuff:

1 YawgsWin
1 Yawg's Bargain
1 Necropotence
1 DT

Sideboard

3 Tormod's Crypt
4 Arcane Lab
3 Naturalize
2 Chain of Vapor
2 Echoing Truth
1 Soul Burn

I decided to see if I could make a deck with Cadaverous Bloom work.

Card Choices:

Lack of Unmask in the MB:  I originally had 4 main.  Because the Unmask is strictly card-DISadvantage, and it removes a Black card from the game, I tried just 2 in, and it worked even less as a result, so I left them out.

Arcane Lab: For Storm Combo (and yes, I can indeed get it out before most Storm can beat me...with surprising regularity.)

Timetwister in the main: I use it mainly as a combo enabler; after all, there's nothing like a Draw-7 to enable you once you've got Bloom out.

Singleton Soul Burn in the Board:  Usually because people miss it when I side it in.

Testing so far:

Grim Long: - 0-2

I lose to Grim Long's god hands (of which, my opponent had 2).  Want to know how to stop their god hands without resorting to Arcane Lab from SB.

NWCS: - 1-1

Not too bad a match up.  Have had occasional problems shutting off Welder.

Ichorid: - 0-1

I have no way of dealing with their men outside of Echoing truth and Chain from the board.  Any suggestions?

Modifications:

+1 R&D
+1 Fastbond
+1 Daze
+1 Regrowth
+1 Loaming Shaman
+1 Gush
-2 Bog Initiate
-4 Blood Celebrant

SB:

-1 Soul Burn
+1 Moment's Peace

These decks bring back memories...

A couple of questions,

Why no Fastbond?  This card will make getting the Bloom out ASAP.  With the inclusion of it, why not run Squandered Resources to really abuse the land you drop?

I don't see the reason for the Bog Initiate and Blood Celebrant.  What's the reason for their inclusion?

How do you plan on drawing enough disposable cards to pitch to the Bloom to get enough black mana to cast a lethal Drain Life?

You also have no disruption other than Duress.  The Dazes might be cool; you can do a little disruption and bounce a land which can be pitched to Bloom.  This leads to the question of why Gush isn't in this list.  Gush is a huge card for drawing and can lead to insane mana via Bloom.

Where is Regrowth?

Finally have you cosidered playing Hollistic Wisdom?  It's always been a card that I've wanted to find a home for.  The problem is that it's combo oriented in nature yet green.  WTF, it should have been blue but it grabs stuff out of the grave so it's not.  Green is an on color in the deck and can abuse the hell out the card drawing bombs like Ancestral Recall, Time Twister, and Night's Whispers.  Try it out.

What about Time Spiral? I know it's not amazing, but you should be generating a lot of mana off Cadaverous Bloom, and Time Spiral will give you a nice fresh set of cards for effectively 0 mana.

Edited the first post with additional information.  I'm a little strapped for time at the minute, so updates will be sporadic.

Time Spiral doesn't work in this deck, mainly because I'm RFG'ing cards from my hand.

Holistic Wisdom, I can't test atm, due to time issues.  I think it'll work, just not for Ancestral.

Gush has been added to the list I'm testing, and it performs adequately.

Drawing through Night's Whisper and Necro enchantments.

It's nowhere near tuned enough, but I'll try my best.
