Hello everybody it Mike from the old Crazy Card & Comics, its been a long time.
I ran into A friend ( Ron from the old Gaming Depot ) we started talking about how good the T-1 tournaments where.

Well to make a long story short I am getting back into Magic (T-1)
it may take some time to get a hold on all of T-1 players in the chicago land area, but if you ever played T-1 @ Crazy's & you are interested in getting a once a month bad a$$ T-1 tourny like the one's I used to host reply to this post . (16K T-1 is Back)

And for the people that do not know who I am or for the one's that forgot.
I held the biggest Sanctioned T-1 tourny 32K in the midwest (90 players)

WHO'S WITH ME ?

Hey Mike, its Manuel. Wow it seems like forever ago that we were playing type 1 at Crazy Card. I'm glad to hear your getting back into magic. Crazy Card helped the growth of Type 1 in the midwest back when when T1 was still developing into a competitive format. You held so many awesome tournaments with huge turnouts and some of the best prizes back in the day. So many things have changed since you closed down Crazy Card. The popularity has kind of fluctuated since then but its very strong currently. I hope that your new tournaments are successful and I'll be happy to help any way I can. As far as the people who used to play Type 1 at Crazy Card, pretty much everyone has either quit Magic or stopped playing Type 1. The few exceptions are myself, Dante(Bill Dicks), and Jason Jaco.

I'd be able to play more if there was tournaments in Chicago.  If the prizes are right there's a large number of players from WI and Michigan too...

PS Jaco lives in California, he only really came out for the Crazy Con's.

If anybody has any question or wants me to notify them of up and comming events, email me you're contact info crazyst1@comcast.net

Since this post I have received emails & massages with questions & welcome backs.
To answer a few.

My goal is to have a tourny once or by monthly to build back up the T-1 crowed and eventually have an other Crazy Con.

Ron from the old Gaming depot works @ past times in niles so more then likely the tournys will be held there, OR if I can find a local youth center or something we can play for cash.

Crazy Con 1 I ran it myself and gave it 110% the turn out was awesome 90 players, there where people from about 6 different states and a couple of different planets
Crazy Con 2 I had a few partners and left the promoting up to someone else and I slaked off and got lazy, the turn out was about half. I apologize it wont happen again.
Crazy Con 3 my goal is a hundred player, that only 10 more then the first one.

Someone emailed me ( why sanctioned tournys why not 10 card proxy's tournys.)
Its not fair players spend lots of $$$$$ and time to build that one perfect deck. Trust me no player that has power cards wants to get beat by a proxy deck.

Its nice to hear from you guys (Hspecter, Dante & Jaco) hope all is good has anyone talk to  Umish or Frankson or anyone from team MN

Mike - I have full beta power, workshops, drains, you name it.  I have no problem getting beat by someone with proxies.  I'd rather have 120 players come out for a proxy tournament than 75 players for a sanctioned.  I think the only people who get sore about being beat by someone who plays proxies are player that aren't that good, but feel entitled to win because they have power and their opponents do not.

You'll really be putting a much lower cap on the number of players who will travel from other states for a Sanctioned tournament.  Back in the day it wasn't much of an option, but with so many proxy tournaments in the midwest, you'd lose out on a lot of players.

Quoted for the truth. Times have changed, Type 1 and Proxies go hand in hand. I hope you change your mind and have some successful tournaments.

Hey, Umesh here.  Welcome back, Mike.  Type 1 hasn't been the same since you left.  It went from a weekly event with you to a monthly event with little following to a SCG only event with a scattering of local tournaments.  I am essentially out of Magic.  The last time I played was probably the second SCG event (how long ago has that been).  I still haven't sold my cards so if you start having tournaments again, I might have come by just to meet up with the old people even if I don't play.

So, you admit that you've been out of the scene for quite a long time, yet you want us to "trust you" when you tell us what today's tournament players look for in Vintage tournaments?

Others have already corrected you, but I just wanted to add my voice: Proxy tournaments are where it's at.  I own power, and I don't care if my opponent has proxies in his deck.  Allowing proxies means a better turnout, which means better prizes. It makes the format more accessible to newcomers, which is essential for keeping Vintage alive and vibrant.

The standard format is to allow 10 proxies between the maindeck and sideboard.  Some tournaments allow additional proxies at $1 per proxy above the 10-proxy limit that's included with your registration fee.  I strongly suggest you consider permitting proxies.

I can't go to anything, but 10 free proxies, and then $1 per additional proxy was popular at Waterbury. If I were to run big Vintage events in New Zealand, I would do them that way.

I remember going to both CrazyCons and having a great time.  I'll happily drive to more from Wisconsin.

Basic 10-proxy seems to be normal for any T1 event in the US anymore.  I'd agree you need to go with that.  Also, going 10-proxy helps me talk some of the locals into making the trip down.  I'm the only one in our group who owns power.

I have no problem with $1 per proxy over 10, but would prefer it capped at like 5 extra.  It's not a hatred of proxies, but more of an issue with keeping track of board position when too many permanents in the deck aren't real.  Especially when people get lazy when making their proxies and don't write the card name clearly or legibly.
