Sculpting Steel and Meddling Mage

Hello,

I have a question: can Sculpting steel circumvent Meddling Mage? For example: can I play Steel as a copy of Smokestack when there's a Mage on Smokestack in play?

Meddling Mage says the named card can't be played. When Sculpting Steel is played, it is still Sculpting Steel, so a Meddling Mage that named "Smokestack" won't stop it being played. As Sculpting Steel comes into play, you copy something e.g. Smokestack, so it's too late for Meddling Mage to care.
