The card below could be part of a potential cycle in a set that has a large land-based theme.

This is the card:

Scion of the Plains  {5} {W} {W} {W}
(Legendary?) Creature - Avatar
~' power and toughness are equal to the number of Plains in play.
Vigilance
Whenever ~ deals damage, you may gain up to that amount of life.

The creature ascended from the plain as though it had always been there
*/*

Current wording:

Scion of the Plains  {5} {W} {W} {W}
(Legendary?) Creature - Avatar
~' power and toughness are equal to the number of Plains in play.
Vigilance
Whenever ~ deals damage, you may gain up to that amount of life.

The creature ascended from the plain as though it had always been there

I have no feelings one way or another on this card, but I don't think you can take it into a cycle. Black and Green would be coming into the close realm of Nightmare and Gaea's Liege, respectively. There may be similar cards in blue or red that I can't think of, though I believe it sounds way out of flavor for blue. I'm bad at putting mechanics in colors to match "flavor," though, so I may be wrong.

I'll show you a possible blue Scion:

Scion of the Island {4} {U} {U} {U}
(Legendary?) Creature - Avatar
Flying
Players play with their hands revealed.
~'s power and toughness are equal to the number of Islands in play and in all player's hands.

Regardless of abilities, do you think a creature that gains power and toughness based on the number of islands you possess is in blue's flavor?

I tend not to think so, but again, I'm not a mechanic expert.

and in all player's hands.

Player's hands are not public information so you cannot find this value unless players play with their hands revealed.

I think it's OK in flavor for blue, but would probably rely on the art to portray it, which isn't exactly ideal.

My idea would be that it should have islandwalk because I can't really see how something that feeds off islands would have flying.

The way I see it, something like this would be a water-based creature, most likely made of water itself.

Toad:

and in all player's hands.

Player's hands are not public information so you cannot find this value unless players play with their hands revealed.

Read the second line of rules text on the card:

Players play with their hands revealed.

My idea would be that it should have islandwalk because I can't really see how something that feeds off islands would have flying.

The way I see it, something like this would be a water-based creature, most likely made of water itself.

You're probably right, netherspirit.  In hindsight, it would be better having Islandwalk instead of Flying.
