Hi all,

I recently changed job, and the System Administrator are using Websense at the new one. Not all Internet is blocked, but I cannot access Themanadrain, the French websites MTGFrance or Solomoxen, or the CGI applet I used to play Go during my lunch break. This is fairly annoying because they dont remove Websense during the lunch break.

Does anyone here know a way to bypass the Websense controls? I tried to Google a bit but found nothing interesting.

For information, the station I'm using to go on Internet is ran under Windows XP Pro, and the Internet access is made through a local proxy. I dont really feel like setting up VNC on my own computer at home just for a few websites...

Thanks !

My solution to this stuff has always been "work through lunch and go home that much earlier" but I don't know if that works for you.

Go, very good game, I don't get to play it nearly enough.

My immediate thought would be to set up a VNC to an outside machine and controlling it from your desk at work. If that's blocked, I suppose using a proxy site would work. There are some listed at this article

Using proxy was my plan for tomorrow. I can setup my own home computer as a private proxy, I used some tools back when I was playing online games...
Would that work with the work proxy I'm using for Internet?

Just be careful. If you are caught intentionally bypassing those filters, thats a clear case for corrective actions. IT types dont like it when the people they support "out-geek" them.

Is there a risk to be caught if Im using a private proxy to bypass Websense?

There always is.

Encryption will help negate some of the risk, but there's no guarantee.

Which is exactly why my plan is so good.

Here's an unconventional thought for ya.

Explain to the sysadmin what TMD is, that it's not costing you a lot of time but you feel like you wanna be able to check up once in a while, and kindly ask him to 'unblock' the site.

It's always the more harebrained ideas that work Smile
