Hey, I'm new to the forum, and was wondering if any of the grizzled vets could lend me a hand. Foolishly, I opted to send my cards away to MagicRares.biz, without confirming that the sight was reputable, or anything. That was three months ago. I've basically lost hope of getting my money, or those wonderful cards back (sigh). However, I'd love to make the owner's life difficult for a little bit in the hopes of getting something.

Does anyone have any general advice? Better yet, contact information? All I got was a crappy email address! Thanks a bunch!

I'd normally suggest a WHOIS lookup to find out what you can about who runs the site. However, I just did that and it appears that the domain was registered through a service called Domainsbyproxy.com which is a service that hides the personal information of the site owner by registering the domain for the person. So it's possibly that you're SOL. However, under the domainsbyproxy legal issues section they state that they will not protect your identity if you violate the law. So you might be able to get the information yet. However they will probably be stringant about making you provide proof that you've been wronged.

Yeah, I recently learned about the WHOIS goodness. Thanks for helping out though!

On balance, the internet has done great things for my enjoyment of the game (see: these types of sites!), but it still hurts to get scammed. Oh well.

MagicRares.biz is run by Jim Haffanin.  His life is already difficult enough.  He runs that business by himself, and spends quite a bit of time working on programs to try and make it easier.  He certainly has a propensity to ignore people for extended periods of time.  I can't find his phone number, but he doesn't answer his phone anyways.  He lives on the boarder of Plaistow and Newton NH.  I had to drive up there to get money from him after 6 months of waiting.  I can't find his address but I feel like it's off Smithfield road.  If you drive up there, it's directly across from the geodesic dome house.  How much are the cards that you sent him worth?

Don't deal with magicrares.biz, they've been awful forever.

I had a few different numbers for him. Just search for hanafin in Newton NH on any switchboard / whitepages site.
