Hey all! It's been quite a while since I posted a deck here on TMD, and this is a little something I've been playing with for a while and feel has potential.

The deck is an aggro deck but with a lot of disruption (18 pieces plus recursion to be precise Very Happy) so as to stop my opponent while things get going.

The deck is rather slow, but once it's got an engine going it is pure insanity.

Anyway, here's the deck! (Be warned, it will probably look very weird at first).

Mana:
7 SoLoMoxen
1 Chrome Mox
1 Lotus Petal
4 City of Brass
3 Gemstone Mine
2 Archaeological Dig
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

Recursion:
3 Life from the Loam
3 Golgari Thug

Nonland Disruption:
4 Duress
4 Cabal Therapy
4 Circular Logic

Creature Destruction:
3 Darkblast

Draw/Tutor:
1 Ancestral Recall
4 Bazaar of Baghdad
1 Crop Rotation

Acceleration:
1 Fastbond
3 Exploration

Key Cards:
4 Jotun Grunt
1 Time Walk

So by now I guess you're looking at that pile thinking "Erm, interesting, so what does it do?!"

The answer is that it recurs Time Walk over and over again, allowing you to go insane with beats.

So let's look at the way each card functions within the deck.

Life from the Loam: The deck's key card is Bazaar of Baghdad, fueling the dredge engine and allowing me to filter through the deck quickly. LftL lets me bring back any dredged/Bazaar'd Bazaars, Wastelands and my Strip Mine; as it has dredge it also provides me with part of my dredge engine.

Golgari Thug: Simply allows me to dredge more cards and recur my Jotun Grunts. Often used as fodder for Cabal Therapy.

Duress: The best turn one distruption card in my opinion. It's easy to play and works great with Cabal Therapy.

Cabal Therapy: Nice synergy with Duress and provides a sac outlet for my Thugs.

Circular Logic: My 'yard usually has 3 or 4 cards in it by the end of turn one or two, so this is a natural inclusion, especially as it can be played for {U} with Bazaar.

Darkblast: Cheap and easy removal with dredge.

Bazaar of Baghdad: The true heart of the deck! Provides me with an awesome dredge engine, a way to filter through my library and a way to cast Circular Logic for its madness cost.

Crop Rotation: Essentially Bazaar number 5.

Fastbond/Exploration: Allows me easy access to Bazaars, an early tempo boost and multiple Waste/Strip effects each turn.

Jotun Grunt: Provides 'yard hate, cheap beats and a way to replenish my library with key cards.

So there it is!

So how does it actually win? Well, through using my Bazaar/dredge engine I can dump my library into my yard whilse using my disruption cards to buy me time. I then use Jotun Grunt to put Time Walk on the bottom of my library, continue thinning with dredge and eventually pull Time Walk up and keep replaying it.

If the Grunt's upkeep cost becomes too much I can usually have a fresh one in play whilst sac'ing the old one.

That's a basic run through of the deck. So, any ideas, comments or criticisms? I know the deck isn't exactly tier 1 at the moment, but I think it has potential.

And please, let's keep all replies constructive. Smile

Thanks guys!

Hermit Druid seems to do what you want your entire deck to do, not sure how effective it would be though.  The concept, that is.

Wow.

How'd I miss that?! HD is going straight in!

EDIT:

I just built a deck using the same principles as this one but built around HD instead, it's insane! Consistently comboing off on turn 2 or 3.

So, I assume we should expect a decklist sometime soon?

Yep Smile

I need to give it more testing first, though, but I'm happy to post earlier if you'd like, when do you want it?

Post it, the deck sounds like a blast to play! On another note, Wouldn't grave-troll be better than thug? I know you mention that you use it to sac to cabal therapy, but I'd imagine that (without actually testing the deck, so I don't know how often you're saccing it) 2 more cards dredged each turn allows you to combo much more reliably. Just a first impression!

I have experimented with Hermit Druid/Jotun Grunt/Time Walk before and been unimpressed.  I have also tried Oath of Druids/Jotun Grunt/Time Walk and had equally poor results.  I look forward to seeing your list, as I still feel that there may be a deck there that I just haven't been able to find.

What if i just cast moat? Not that i play moat in any of my decks but, seems like you only win condition is grunt. So if i can keep grunt of the board or remove walk from the game you will have problems winning? Or what if i extirpate grunt aftrt u bazaar or something?

Moat is a problem, but cards such as that are why I'm running so much disruption. Plus I can SB in bounce to deal with it g2 and 3 if it does appear.

With regards to the new deck - I shall post the list either tonight or tomorrow as I have little time at the moment, my testing has shown that turn 4 to 5 is more common for the win but that my disruption is usually strong enough to keep me in the game long enough to get the combo out.

It may never be tier 1, but it's a VERY fun deck to play and packs a strong surprise factor (seriously, who expects a deck like this?).

EDIT: I've just posted the deck here: http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=32730.0

Enjoy!
