For the tens in attendance, and the hundreds reading at home around the world..... and for Eric Becker, whom I have never met, but am very pleased by this tournament... LETS GET READY TO VINTAGE!!!!!!

*Cues the Music*

This is going to be the Blog of the Boomer.  I will be giving updates all day hopefully from the CoD venue giving updates on current Top8 and results of each round.  Perhaps there will even be pictures too if I get time to upload.  For those of you who are going or went, I am the jamok in the white Bowling Shirt and my brother Nick is the bald kid.  This is going to be one heck of a day of vintage and I can't wait to bring you the coverage.

9:11 am The Wake Up

So here I am now writing up the pre-report waiting for Nick to wake up.  It's a mere 3 hours to the start of the event and I can't wait for it to get going.  I'll be posting my decklist later after the second round probably but it seems like there is going to be a lot of people at this tourny.  If I were to estimate based on the forum postings, we will have close to 60 people there.  Not too shabby.  Looks like Nick just got up so I am going to grab our decks while he takes a shower and make sure we have our proxies all ready.

Update 11:41am

Nick and I arrived at the site and grabbed our table to register.  We got our stuff done and the judge says we have 23 people reg'd.  A few are still on the way and there's a whole team that hasn't registered yet so we're looking at about 40 people probably when all is said and done.  Round 1 will probably be delayed because of people traveling here so we'll see when this stuff starts up.

Ah yes, I got so caught up in the fun and excitement that I forgot to update the blog.  The event had 46 people so I was a little off on my estimate.  6 rounds were played and the free side event happened at the end of round 5.  This is what I played....

Glass Cannon Ichorid (aka Manaless)

4x Bazaar of Bhagdad
1x Petrified Field
4x Mishra's Factory

4x Grave Troll
4x Stinkweed Imp
4x Shambling Shell
4x Golgari Thug
4x Unmask
4x Cabal Therapy
4x Leyline
2x Dread Return
2x Dragon Breath
1x Sutured Ghoul
1x Ancestor's Chosen
1x Sundering Titan
4x Chalice of the Void

And Nick played a very slightly modified version of Fienstein's UW Fish.

This is how it played out for me.......

Round 1 Nick Cortez Gifts

Game 1: Nick wins the roll and goes first with a scroll turn one into a recall, he recall's on his second turn which leads to a gifts in hand on his third turn.  I mull to 4 cards but keep a hand with 2x Bazaar at 4 cards; seems good.  On turn three I dredge all but 4 cards into my library with the bazaars and therapy his hand away to useless spells and I take game 1 on the back of a 24 power ghoul.

Game 2: He goes first and plays out a Bob turn 1, 2, and 3.  That's some card advantage.  He is at 15 life at the start of turn 4, mysticals for a gifts, bob flips the gifts which puts him at 11.  The second bob flips up a Force which drops him to 6!  I'm still in this.  His third bob jumped in the way of an Ichorid last turn so he isn't around to bring the pain anymore.  He combos a little with Gifts, Lotus, Recoup DT, DT Tendrils to drop me to 2.  I go to my yard and am not able to bring up enough back to win as he is not at 16 life.  He attacks for the win with bob next turn.

Game 3: He starts with a Leyline in play.... uh oh.  Easy to say I am never actually in this game as I have zero answers to leyline.  Just not something that I want to see.

0-1 1-2

Round 2: Nat w/ UB Fish

Game 1: Nat is on the play and leads out with a fetchland into pass.  I take my turn and bazaar and chaline and pass.  He plays a Bob on turn 2 and passes back.  I dredge a bit on turn two and pass it back to him.  Turn three he flips up a bob with bob, and attacks with bob.  He then cantrips me with Time Walk... Nice card.  His walk turn he goes to 16 from Bob revealing Martyr of Frost.  He plays out two more Bobs and he passes it over to me at 15 life.  I am able to drop him to 11 on my turn by bringing back a shadow and an ichorid.  His 4th turn he goes to 8 from the bobs but has no real play of note.  my turn I bring back almost my whole army and cabal away his hand and bring back the ghoul for some stomping fun.

Game 2: Nat mulls to 6 and I keep my 7.  This game goes quickly as I have the life on his side going, 20, 17 Combat, 12 Bob, 2 Combat Dead.  Ichorids and Shadows take this game and I never even think of dread retuning.

1-1 3-2

Round 3: Jacob  w/ Hide/Seek control

Game 1 goes for 6 turns with both players doing nothing of note for the first 3 turns until I see him going to 12 from combat, and burning for 1 off some floating mana.  Next turn I drop him to 8 from Combat and return my Ancestor's Chosen going to 46 Life.  Next turn I attack for the win with the ghouls and the Chosen.

Game 2 he plays out a quick withered wretch and that keeps me on the back of my manlands for damage.  I am able to get him to 13 before he gets out a viashino heretic i believe to blow up my artifact creatures.  He takes game 2 with savage wretch beats.

Game 3 I get a pithing needle to name his heritic and another to name his wretch but he goes all combo on me with bazaar and words of war.  Ouch.  Turn 4 he kills me as my life goes 20, 16 Combat, 14 Words, 10 Combat, 6 Words, 0 Words.... nice card.

1-2 4-4

Round 4 Josh with Grim Long

At this point we were both playing for fun so I didn't take notes.  Good guy though.

2-2 6-4

Round 5 Brad with Metalworker Welder Combo

I had no clue what was going on as I have never played that match-up before.  He ran me over in two games cause I missed on all my therapy targets and he gained 1 million life game 1.  Oh well.

2-3 6-6 Drop

More to come on the side event later.
