With the disappearance of Beanie Exchange tournaments and the rising attendance of both Myriad and ELD's tournaments in New England, now would seem to look like a decent time to try and revive the T1 scene in Hadley.

The card store is still in the same mall, albeit in a much better (more roomy) location. The food court is still there, and theres even a Fuji Chen now for all your bourbon chicken desires.

The Hadley mall has always been a great place to hold tournaments with plenty of stuff to do between rounds in addition to alot of different food choices. There has been a resurgance of T2 and casual players there who would most likely add a 5-10 person base to a 10-proxy tournament environment.

Ideally I'd like to run either a $10-$15 tournament first to get a feel for turnout. Prizes could either be store credit (they have alot of T2 staples with some T1 stuff), or I could simply put up cards from my collection (Full Power, bazaars, drains, forces, duals, etc, etc.) if people are looking for T1 prizes. If we could establish a 25-30 person showing I'd happily run the classic $20 mox/drain deal with increases in prizes for other t8 slots as numbers increased.

This is obviously a preliminary poll with no set date in mind, just trying to get an idea of general interest. Thoughts?

Edit: Being an old Team Hadley member this is definately close to my heart, I'd really love to see these tournies come back and would make sure to put in the gruntwork to have them be successful.

I would absolutely love to see Hadley come back.  The only places that hold regular tourneys are all about 3 hours away from us.  I would definitely try to bring a bunch of people to these.

This would be awesome. Extra hotness points for the cheap entry.

Speaking as someone who works every Saturday and hence can't attend ELD's or Myriad, would it possible to establish these as Sunday tourneys, as the Beanie Exchange did?

YES! I used to always play T1 at the old T&T Collectables stores, however, once it became X9 Games, they were no longer, and only T2 was available. This caused me to stop playing the format for a while, but if there were to be a possibility that such tournaments would return, I would be very, very happy. 20 minutes is much easier than having to travel 1-2 hours to play.

I'd go to every one, and I know a good 2-3 others who I could bring along, in addition. I don't really care about the cost, or prize structure, right now.

I know that in Ohio they have success with that whole unlimited proxies thing since anyone can play T1 then. Is that still generally shunned around here? Or would people be willing to deal with it to (hopefully) increase attendance.

I'm a 10-proxy guy, but open to suggestions before I try to get this running.

Unlimited proxies would  be a terrific idea if you could set good baselines on how proxies are made and get a judge to know what the cards are.  Since your trying to bring back Type 1 to a currently dead area, unlimited proxies is the best idea to get the local guys to join in.

I had heard of the hadley tourneys and sadly did not really jump into type one until they were all basically done.

I would like to see these tourneys rise up again also.  My advice would be lenient proxies (maybe 15 for the first one) but not unlimited.  Unlimited proxies just seems like a bad way to rejuvinate a tournament scene.  Even if you only did it for the first one, as people already proposed, it would likely set expectations for the future one and give a false sense of the actual meta-game for future tourneys.

I do agree with the sunday tournament proposal.  There's generally nothing on Sundays in New England and there's ALWAYS something on saturday.  There isn't a saturday you could pick that wouldn't conflict with something major, many of them being other type one tourneys.  Sundays just makes alot more sense in my opinion.

With that said, I'd make every effort to attend these regardless of which day they were on.

I heard Hadley tourneys were fun Smile

Good luck with it, I'm rooting for you.

I'm all about unlimited proxy events, if the store is too. The reason is that people don't actually abuse it like you'd think they would, and it lets you really open up as a deck designer as well (do I want Imperial Seal on my board?). I think the consistent quality in decks and players at the Meandeck Opens is party a result of the unlimited proxy policy. It pulls lots of people out.

If it were Sunday, I could make it.

If it were Saturday, I could certainly not make it.

15 proxies seems reasonable.  Unlimited proxies is a damn mess if you haven't been sort of working with the idea for a while, and while I think ten is actually the best place for people to be, fifteen is a good place to start when you're breathing life in to a once thriving scene.

Plus, isn't that shop hella busy on Saturday with t2 and WoW tournaments on that day?  Seems like Sunday would be the only reasonable option anyway.  The only catch is that the mall closes early on Sundays so it would be difficult to organize with the mall staff.

Sunday seems to be the general concensus. I chatted with the store owner as well, and he's all for hosting tournaments whenever. I'm going to go talk to him again, expect this to hopefully happen in one of the next couple of weekends.

Definitely doing a lower entry feee and 15 proxies to begin with, and we'll see where it goes from there. Good to see some general support. I'm sure there will be a great turnout, especially if any of the locals come or anyone makes the trip from Myriad/ELD out here.

Is there any update on this? I can't wait for them to get started again.

So far 17 people are apparently able to show, including myself (according to the poll). I can bring a couple friends, and I am sure that the store-owner can put up a poster, or something on the case, to advise others of the tournament. Posting in the Tournament Announcement forum will also help make the event known to those yet to read this.

For whatever it's worth, it would be easier for me to make it on a Sunday.

I heard Hadley tourneys were fun Smile

They are.

I would totally go if I still lived on the east coast.  I hope that you start running them again and it becomes a huge success because Hadley was the nuts back in the day.
