Hey ppl,

The reason for starting this thread is a vintage two-headed giant tournament I'm going to attend. I've never played a 2hg game in my life so I'm not even sure what to expect. The rules for the tournament are the following: 40 life (due to tendrils being too easy otherwise), 1 game, no sideboard. The vintage B+R list is in effect (which means only 1 Black Lotus per team and so on) and Erayo is also banned. For the rest the regular 2hg rules are used.

What would you guys bring to a tournament like this?
If you ask me it comes down to 1 deck using all the power and the other playing a supportrole. Could be something like a straightforward combo deck (or something) and a control pile to ensure the comboplayer gets to play his stuff.

but after some deliberation I and my teammember have descided to change things a bit (not too much)
We're probably going to play a fully powered (well almost.. only the artifactpower is includes) Stax deck with spectral searchlight (being able to give the other member mana when needed) and a stipped version of Dragon. Dragon will only run Ancestral Recall and Timewalk as powerpieces and virtually no mana accelleration (only Mox Diamond and Chrome Mox).

The plan is to slow down the game using Stax lockpieces (and dropping chalice @ 1 being a primary play if possible) and either kill using one of the big dudes in the stax list or combo with Dragon.

The dragonlist is pretty straightforward but we've included 4 Xantid Swams so hose the controlplayer. Xantid Swarm allows Dragon to combo without fear but also provides protection for Stax to drop its lockpieces.
The Cunning Wish>Stroke play is out due to the lack of sideboard. Thats why we chose to include Ambassador Laquatus as the 2nd win condition. And we've also included Sundering Titan as a backup plan.

The Staxlist is not really standard. Most regular staxparts are there but no welders and some other crap that might be usefull in a multiplayer format.

I would have one player play High Tide and the other play Dragon. Put the power with the Dragon player. Decking is going to be the best kill option you have. The only other option I can see is to have one player run a Brain Freeze combo deck and the other run one with just Xantids, City of Solitude, Defense Grid, Dosan, FOW, Daze, Remand, Counterspell, etc. and just run interference.

Basic concept.

Deck one just attempts to get an Oath/Orchard into play, or resolve a Show and tell ASAP!!  The basic Goal is get Timesifter In play.  If you can pull that off, then theoretically your oppoennt's will never get another turn.  If you don't get Timesifter in hand, then Gate to AEther or Dreamhalls will certainly gain huge advantage in the longrun. In the "late" game, Eureka should be a game ending card.  Remember that all come into play abilites will trigger after Eureka has fully resolved.  So this means you can target anything with Hoverguard, Dupe, and Angel of Despair.

The other nice thing about this tag team is that Deck two requires essentially no skill to piolet... hense the name 1 and 1/2 headed ^_^
