The Myriad Games Back-to-Back Vintage Tournament announcement for June 2nd and 3rd, 2007 can be found here.

Thank you to everyone who attended the sixth and seventh events in our 2007 Vintage Tournament Series here at Myriad Games.

Matt Allen and Zack Galbreath won the Preregistration Bonus Dual Lands.

Bill Copes won the Saturday Best Deck Name Contest for "Miami Vise" (His deck was running 4x Black Vise)
Ray Robillard won the Sunday Best Deck Name Contest for "Haikus are stupid / I won't do one on this day / Crap what have I done"

The Myriad Gear Challenge continued to be popular. I played over 20 games during the two days and we gave away a bunch of Free Myriad Gear. Thanks to everyone who participated. Enjoy the Myriad Gear!

Our New Player Bonus Booster Pack was also appreciated. Each new player received a Free Booster Pack!

Each player who preregistered for both days also received a Free Booster Pack!

Every player that wanted one received one of Sara's famous Myriad Games Magical Mana Cookies!

Thanks again to Sara "Ms. Mana Cookie" for these delicious Vintage treats!

Thanks to Ashlee for taking pictures from these events and helping type up the decklists.

These tournaments finished in record time thanks to an earlier start time. Having decklists prepared ahead of time also resulted in fewer deck registration errors. Thank you to all the prompt and prepared players.

The Vintage Draft (including cards from The Dark, Legends, Antiquities, Arabian Nights) was thoroughly enjoyed once again. This time around, we added in some Unhinged for some extra crazy fun! Of the eight players who participated, these were the Top 4:

1st   Ryan Marek
2nd   Corey Fraser
3rd   Jeremiah Rudolph
4th   Jeremy Barcello

The Tumblin' Dice Tournaments were another in our series of enjoyable Free side events. Of the 20 players over the two days, these were the Top 4 from each day.

Our Best Tournament Report contest is underway. All tournament reports posted in the Tournament Announcement section of The Mana Drain by June 1st will be eligible to win. Reports must include Myriad Games in the title. Style points will be awarded for catchy titles, amusing anecdotes, and interesting coverage. Super style points will be awarded for good pictures from the event. Everyone is encouraged to respond to the tournament reports to let us know which you like best (you may PM myriadgames with comments if you cannot post directly to the Tournament Report forum). I will be the grand, august, final arbiter as to the final placement of reports. We may even award ancillary prizes if there are multiple reports that are deserving. Prizes will be reserved at Myriad Games and may be picked up the next time the winner(s) stop by. As reports are added, I will add handy links to the various tournament reports from the player's names in the final standings below.

As always, if you have any comments or suggestions about our events, please email us at vintage@myriadgames.com

2x Foil
3x Nix

My God!  Nix?!  I can't believe it, but that's great tech against Gush.  I'm going to have to explore that.

Nothin' but pure gold all day.
Nix: Gush, Force, Dread Return, REVERENT SILENCE *shakes fist*, even an on-color mox.

Against Oli in T8 I got to Foil a turn 1 something with Island + Krosian Rec (yes its any card, and yes they go to the GY).  He was quite amused.  Although I did misplay Foil once, I forced something removing Foil when I had exactly 4 mana open.  I relized it seconds too late.

Wouldn't REB be better then nix in almost every instance?  I realize it's red and nix is blue..but it's not really hard to splash for it.

No because it doesn't fit in the deck ... at all.  #1) I only run 3 fetchlands.  #2) I run titan, and lastly it doesn't give me splash control against Ichorid, and has less of an impact against combo (doomsday).

For the Record, I probably won't be doing a tournement report because I don't remember too much about my matches/opponents.   I will be posting a revised decklist and mini-primer going over some of the choices and lessons learned from the tournement.  So keep an eye on the Vintage Forums.

I played a few casual games with Gush Tendrils against his Oath list, and Nix was generally very insane. I had fun trying to misdirect his nix on my gush to his gush lol. Its a very strong card I have to say! I was impressed, and would considered a worthy board card if you expect GaT, GT, Ichorid, etc.

I'd like to post my results and thoughts on my flash deck, but I see posting is restricted to full members.  How do I become a full member?

You can type up a report in the Open Forum and in your report ask the Mods to move it into this Tournament section of the site.

I think these tournaments set a precedent. Ichorid and Flash are overrated. Flash has been doing terrible at myriad lately, and Ichorid shows up in droves yet fails to put more than 1 person in top 8 either day. They aren't better than any other competitive deck.

Yes clearly one metagame means X deck is crap and Y deck is the awesome. I missed the memo that had Bomberman as the premiere anything in this format.

In fairness Myriad has a completely different meta than anywhere else.  I can gauge a 150 person Waterbury better than a 30 person Myriad.   It's literally the only tourney where I walk in and have absolutely no idea what I'm going to face.

This is good and bad.  It's good because there's almost always a healthy mix of decks in their top 8's.  It's bad because you can be geared to beat combo and run into mountains and sui black rounds one and two on any given week.

For this particular weekend I felt the bad would outweigh the good in that with the restrictions coming off it would be total chaos, but I don't see totally domination of any particular card.  Gush obviously had an immediate impact but it didn't look overpowering.

Some of my favorite players popped up out of the blue and did well with their own decks.  Brian Rozerro is one of the best people who never play (and definitely the nicest) and of course I have to give a shout-out to my boy Goblin Ron.  Go get em' G-ron :p

Also, I noticed someone picked this in my absence:

Quote
German Kird Ape

Whoever you are... WATCH YOUR BACK.

Durney keeps doing well with that sui-black pile (his words).  At least he took out the maindeck massacre.

Stax-less stax has made a very big impact on the New England meta.  I expect a healthy dose of it at Waterbury and probably one or two breaking top 16 (but it won't be ray ;p)

I thought Bomberman would just peter out given Gush's new found powers.. I was wrong.  So wrong in fact that many people who I checked in on over the weekend told me their top 8 hopes and dreams were crushed over and over again by the 2/4 meance.  Looks like bomberman isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

Big props to "Miami Vise."

Finally, concluding on a sad note, although top 8's of both days looked fairly varied, fish is nowhere to be seen.  This makes me shed a tear.  An invisible tear.

I will try to make the next Myriad.  Congrats to Dan for his successful tournaments and congrats to all who did well.

- Teh Feinsteins.

Perhaps I've just missed it somewhere, but why in the world are there 4 serra avengers in the Bomberman sideboards?  A couple of us have been testing it tonight and that's one of the things that's just puzzling the heck out of us.  Incidentally the deck has been performing really well.

In a nutshell, the Boston guys went overboard with their fish hate.  :p  The avengers have been in their sideboards for a very long time.  They popped up a while ago when fish was running wild in this area.  That phenomenon has since subsided and I think the avengers just aren't needed.  I ran into Seasinger yesterday and it was solid against me (I was fish :p).  I think overall seasinger is better because it's good in the mirror and GAT while Avenger really only shines against fish.

Otherwise the Boston Bomberman version is about as good as that deck gets in my opinion.  Dan Cunningham has smashed face with it for months on end and he has many friends who have picked up the deck card for card and done well with it.  This tournament was proof.

Bomberman appears to have taken the spot of another UW deck for the mantle of most consistent deck in the format.  It is a great choice if you're looking to top 8 and it always has a chance to win the tourney since there really is no single terrible matchup.  Bomberman isn't really my style of deck but I recognize its pure power right now and it looks like I'm going to have to work on decks that have good matches against it... that won't be easy :p

Ok, well that makes more sense now.  I have to agree with you though that seasinger looks a ton better though.  Thanks for the help, Dave.
