Thank God. As much as I've enjoyed this stretch of Legacy, I'll be more than ready to reimmerse myself in the king of all formats. It will surely be a blast as always, and you can count me in for sure. BTW, everyone goes to Thurman's after, capice? Don't make me say it twice. Later, Dave

I will seriously consider coming to this event. I had a good time at the one last summer.

Poll:
Do you want to play with the June 20th B&R or not?
I'm leaning towards yes. Let me know what you want.
If there are no objections, that's what we'll do.

Well, June 10th isn't quite June 20th Steve. I don't exactly cast my lot in favor, but I'll be more than happy to cash in either way......Or scrub and eat some Thurmans. See you all there! Later, Dave

I'll say no. It's because nine days isn't adequate time for most people to adjust to these changes, and for people who don't see the announcement with updates, they'll bring something bad or illegal. Keeping things as they are seems fine; one last torch song for Gifts : )

Joe Bushman indicated that he'd like to play either way.
I'm willing to go either way, but I am not sure that people would be that confused with the new B&R list announcement.
Please speak up!

Seems like people might be interested in playing whatever rules Star City is using, which last I heard was with Gush and without Gifts. I'm not going, so I guess I'm fine either way, but I can see where others might like the opportunity to get some testing done. If I have to choose, I'll say we play by the rules, but, shoot, the tourney's five minutes from my house so I'll be there regardless.

SCG will be sticking to the actual dates for restriction and unrestriction. In short, SCG will have Gush restricted and Gifts unrestricted:http://www.themanadrain.com/index.php?topic=33000.0
It looks like we'll stick to the actual dates. In short, Gush will remain restricted for this tournament.

I am pumped about this tournament!
Unfortunately, Spencer will not be around with lawn darts.
Hopefully I'll be taking in a Thurmanator afterwards!

21 players for a total prize payout of $240 dollars.
Top 4 split. Decklists will be put up sometime in the near future.
Top 4 was: David Earley, Rob Edwards, Nam Tran, and Juan Rodriguez. Congrats!

Woohoo! Another good one! Thanks to our Meandeck overlords... I mean organizers, and to everyone who came out.
Kinda wish I hadn't run into Bomberman twice, but I feel like I did okay.
Plus, congratulations to both Nam Tran and Juan Rodriguez! Thurman's 4 Eva!
Except next time, 'cause apparently we're going to Schmidt's.
Fixed Nam's name : )

Scmidt's has stupidly good cream puffs. I'd put Thurman's over it though, probably on the basis of being more of a dive for post-event drinkery and eatery.

Mark Trogdon really wants to go to Schmidt's, and that sounded pretty good to me as I haven't been there in a while either, so I rallied the troops around the idea. It's no dive, for sure, but they do have some damn good food. And Nat Tram knows of what I speak. That guy wins everything.

Heck, I'd do these biweekly. Since you're probably more referring to scheduling around July 4, I think July 7 is better for me personally than June 29. If you don't want to schedule on top of Origins or anyone's holiday plans, why not the 14th?

biweekly is probably too frequent, although i wouldn't mind. my concern is primarily with figuring out how to continue to grow. we had 21 players, which is solid, but how do we sustain those numbers and get more players to come?

Bigger prize? (I suppose that implies bigger entry fee)
The tournaments have been just about as legit as a vintage event can get. Honestly.

It seems as though the tournaments are about as large as they'll get without introducing more people who are close to Columbus to Vintage. From what I've seen people are willing to drive about two hours to get to a tournament, since that means they don't have to leave too early in the morning and you usually get home by midnight for work on Monday. Periodically you get people from farther out in Michigan or Pennsylvania. Paul's a regular from Pittsburgh, but last time you had three people from State College, PA, and that's impressve.
Having "real" Vintage competition is the big thing. I mean, sometimes casual gamers will play in a no-proxy environment because they can use whatever weird combo deck or aggro deck they have at home and expect to do okay. Some of these players wouldn't consider a proxy tournament, though, either because they don't want to learn the format or they feel weird about using cards they don't have or any number of other reasons including the good ol' coin flip argument.
Like there needs to be some kind of Magic community outreach program in Ohio to teach people that Vintage is fun and challenging and exciting, not just a coin flip. Dave, the guy who owns the store in Sandusky that hosts tournaments periodically, talked to me a while ago about doing something with Vintage at one of his overnights (gamers can pay $20 to stay in the store overnight, play a tournament, and eat free pizza and pop), but I haven't talked to him in a while. We were going to have a small tournament, maybe do some things with proxies (like how to make nice ones with acetone), and generally have a good time showing that Vintage is degenerate in a fun way. Something like that seems like a decent way to get more people excited about the format and make them more likely to come to tournaments in the future.
It's tricky, though, because at the same time you don't want to scare people off. Like I would suggest going out to those no-proxy tournaments in St. Clairsville (again, 2 hours away) with some powered decks and showing the locals how they work and how fun they are, if just to get them to start playing with proxies. But I've seen it happen where people start bringing power to unpowered metas and the format is instantly killed (Twaun007, I'm looking in your direction).
Bigger prizes and longer days (having back to back tournaments for example) have the benefit of bringing people from farther away, but it won't necessarily be a regular thing. They would be fun to do every 6 months or so--maybe back to back mox tournaments or a Legacy-Vintage weekend or something.
We could discuss this more in the community forum or somewhere else to get more feedback.

Thats cold blooded man. (there was a reason for total format destruction) I was on vacation in the outer banks so I wasn't able to make this tourney, but I'll be at the next one whenever it is held.

Is it possible to hold these on Saturdays instead of Sundays? I know Arsenal has talked about making the trek to Ohio, but Sunday tournaments make this impossible.
