Shared fate...and crumbling sanctuary in play?  Long as hell type 4 game the night before.  I go to bed thinking of playing something close to U/W bomberman with splash of red for maindeck 2 Pyroblast/1 Fire/ice.  Seemed good.  I get to waterbury and see ICBM for the first time in half a year, and caught up on a lot.  Ben says Oath is good, I don't disagree with but less than 25 minutes away from the start of the tournament, he says, I'll flip a coin heads oath, tails bomberman.  Heads it is.  Away we start!

The cowboy hat 2.0

The Win 7
4 Oath of Druids
1 Razia
1 Akroma
1 Blessing

Opposite of Discard 8
4 Thirst for Knowledge
4 Brainstorm

The Not you Win 16
4 Force
4 Chalice
4 Drain
1 Engineered Explosives
1 3Sphere
1 Wipe Away
1 Life from the loam

The Broken 5
1 Crop rotation
1 demonic tutor
1 recall
1 time walk
1 vampiric tutor

Manaz 24
5 Mox
1 Lotus
4 Orchard
2 Delta
2 Strand
2 Tropical Island
2 Underground Sea
1 Island
2 Mishra's Factory
1 Strip Mine
2 Wasteland

Board:
2 Oxidize
4 Leyline of the void
2 Trickbind
2 Platinum Angel
1 Tinker
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Simic Sky Swallower
2 Maze of Ith

Off..........we go!

Round 1 Matt
I sit down and open with an average hand.  He wins the rolls and opens with I believe a fastbond which is a counter war, I win.  I wasteland an trop, and play oath and win with angels.  So easy a caveman could do it!

Board:
2 Maze of Ith
1 Explosives
Out:
Off color mox, crop, don't know last card.

He mulls to 5, and after 3 opts and having no permanents for a few turns, suffers the same fate as game 1.

1-0

Round 2 John

Game 1
I keep a decent 7, only to run into unmask grabbing oath, and lotsa dredging later I lose, pretty badly.  But I see his deck, and look for tricks.

Board:
I brought in 4 leyline/2 Plat/1 Tinker/1 Explosives
Out with: 4 Drain, 2 Angels/2 Chalice

Game 2
I get a second turn oath, and protect my leyline from reverent silence with a force.  Platz Beats ftw!  We both had leylines off our openers.

Game 3
I have a solid hand as usual, and as does he.  We smile at each other and drop leyline at exactly the same millisecond.  My oath sticks and I'm doing ok, when reverent silence hits I pitch a time walk to force.  Not good but my leyline/oath won't die.  I oath, get platz and have to pass.  He reverent silences which resolves, and bazaars.  I cast another oath, and watch my angel get ancient grudged.  Here comes the important lesson-->  Bridge from below x3 Should have been removed from the game.  It wasn't, and before I can oath again, 2/2 hasted beatsticks win.  The judge had been watching us and when he told us after the game, I asked since bridge wasn't optional why he didn't step in, and he had nothing to offer me aside ignoring me for the rest of the day.  Oh well.  I hate enchantments that only work from graveyards...

1-1

Round 3 Chris

Game 1
I play Chalice at 0, fetch go.  He brainstorms and tries to chain my chalice, which I counter.  I get drain mana up, and wait to draw an oath to win.  He forces removing pact, but I drain and pass.  He doesn't have the win.  I hate flash.

Flashboarding:
4 Leyline/2 Trickbind/2 Plat/1 Tinker
2 Angel/1 Mox/4 Thirst/1 Wipe Away/1 Crop Rotation

Game 2
I play Chalice at 0, Leyline pass.  Pretttty Good.  Oath wins from there, not much he can do.  Platz Beatdown ftw.

2-1

Round 4 Ralph

I sit down next to my opponent who turns out to be good old Ralphie.  I met Raplh playing Control Slaver 3 Waterburies ago in my first vintage tournament in the 3-3 Bracket.  He was really nice to me, and we wanted a fun game and to discuss the matchup so we played with our hands revealed.  But a year and a half later, and our match wasn't so casual unfortunately.

-2 Chalice, +2 Oxidize

Game 1
I start out with a solid hand, involving draining a sphere, and beating with angels off my oath. I managed to Wipe Away a smokestack to make sure I wouldn't lose to the tangle wire that could have locked me out.

Game 2
He starts off solid with a sphere off 2 moxen, and a city.  I play land, explosives at 0, Pass.  I want to detonate explosives to set him back mana.  He draws and has nothing, and passes.  I draw, play land and pass.  He demonics in his turn while I pray it's no a wasteland.  He passes turn, when I eot oxidize sphere.  I vamp upkeep getting Lotus to time walk and play oath in the same turn, making his seal of cleansing worthless. I beat with Razia and he answers with a seal, a turn too late.
It's sad having to play friends in such a big tournament but I wish him luck and promise him I owe him a stax vs oath rematch on his time.

3-1 Not dead yet!

Round 5 Mike

Game 1
I saw my opponents deck round 4 as he played Laplante across from me, and I believe he saw mine.  I chalice at 0, waste a land and pass.  He literally proceeds to not draw a land for at least 3 turns, when I promptly waste another.  He scoops to Angels.

Flashboarding

Game 2
I have leyline which is nice.  He passes and I manage to get a sapphire, fetch, chalice with bluffing drain, Recall/Force in hand.  I proceed to draw absolutely 0 Blue cards for the rest of the game.  I Play a trinisphere, and waste, and next turn eot a recall.  Still no blue cards.  Chalice at 1, Chalice at 2, Factory Beats ftw!  He was a great opponent and a nice guy and  I felt savagely lucky for not losing game 1 due to his mana screw, and game 2 to my lack of fucking blue cards.

4-1

Round 6, Dave FEEEEEEEEEINSTEIN!!!!!

To Dave Feinstein!!!!

I was unhappy to play a friend, but knowing whoever wins top 16’s I feel better.  My notes for the matchup aren’t up to par and I’m sure Dave will have a better analysis

Game 1
We start off with Fish shenanigans involving a daze, duress, and a force.  The meddler on Oath, Confidant draw engine are better than my draw and I scoop it up after seeing my 5th land.  Oh I should mention I had 3 Orchards giving my opponent even more beatsticks.

Brought in an explosives/simic, out with a mox and a thirst

Game 2
I keep a hand that seems solid with 2 oath, and business, and a few lands including an orchard.  I get the early oath which is countered, and I force, which is forced.  I play another oath, that’s forced as well!  2 Turns later for my first time  all day I topdeck, yet another oath!  Thank fish for playing creatures!

Game 3
Meddler names the oath in my hand, which I don’t mind since I would love to cast my explosives at 2 to kill confidant and mage.  I play it, walk into a force, which I suspected.  I force back with Simic Sky Swallower, and he forces again.  He wins off beatsticks.

4-2

Round 7, ELD
With no hope of top 16ing due to my tiebreaker with John dropping, I’m not in the best of spirits. I really only hope Feinstein goes all the way, and lose to Fastbond, Libray and more, enjoying the nice mana screw my deck decided to unleash.

Totally forgot the board, thinking 2 Maze of ith.

I scoop to my island/factory the totally sucks at casting mana drain, and his dryads finish me off.  Mana denial without wasteland being involved!

4-3, 36th overall.

I then play in the side event for a dual when my luck improves.  I have to leave to make sure we have a hotel room, and having little cash, and being only 16, I can only hope my mom straightened it out prior.  The woman wanted a credit card, and a 100 dollar deposit but my charm was too much to resist.  The Cowboy hat was working, and I mulliganed into the drivers license, and hotel fee.  Sweet!!!    I rush back to the venue to apologize to Ray for not being there for my opponent and look for my opponent.  I check the sheet and my opponent is a bye.  So….I’m still in?  Great!

Round 1 Charles

I play against belcher (land grant revealed it) and easily win off force, chalice, and angel beats.

Bring in 2 Oxidize, Take out crop/wipe away

I lock him in again with a chalice and after seeing his hand of Dark Rit, Pearl, Ruby, Cabal Rit, SSG, ESG, Tendrils, I wasn’t sure to be worried or feel safe.  I felt like trinisphering tho, and won off my oath a couple of turns later.  He couldn’t land grant thanks to trinisphere and never drew another SSG/ESG.

Round 2 Jake

Jake and I got off to a friendly start, and it was pleasurable match, storm combo (what exact build I have no idea), vs oath.  I can pull it off.  I manage to win off angels and he scoops to poor draws.
Sideboarding:
TERRRRRIBLY

I bring in leyline due to me being tired I want leyline to win it for me.
4 Leyline/2 Trickbind/2 Angel/1 Tinker
For 4 Thirst/1 Crop Rotation/1 Mox/1 Wipe Away/1 Oath/1 Explosives.

I get a leyline as does he.  We play our game, I get a chalice at 0, we each have no good cards.  I drain a tutor, he mysticals for twister and he passes. I hope to brainstorm into anything but 3 Leyline of the void!  I hardcast 2 Leylines to not burn, and pass to timetwister shennanigns about to go off.  He manages to not get much and with an oath I’m all set up to win.  Weirdest game all day, hands down.

Finals vs TK

He keeps a good hand, but my hand is better.  Not many notes but I manage to somehow angel his life to 0, thanks partly to his necropotence and my time walk for oath.

Sideboarding, around the same as above.

Game 2 Leyline for me woot!  He Starts with a necro, with me wanting quick angel beats for the win.  I manage to force something to stay alive.  I hardcast a trinisphere tapping out despite having drain in hand, figuring trinisphere would be better than a drain.  I end up doing ok and he burns for a couple.  I then pass, and he does something I drain for 2.  I pump mana into factory but after drawing a drain for turn, I’m not ready to take his 7 life to 0.  I ponder over the scenario and pass, and I believe I drained something once more, activating factory and I draw a land, enough to force whatever he plays.  He then tinkers for platinum angel, at 1 life, and suddenly my oath is pretty good.  I oath up razia and that stupid wipe away I kept in wins me the game thanks to it cluttering my opener.

We go back to type 4 with Michael French and I’m dealt into a game already going.  Nezumi Graverobber is amazing and I save Ben from 6/6 Wurm tokens with my Plagebearer.  My amazing hand of like infinite counters + forbid, and massive amounts of removal was hot.  TK killed me and then won.  I left for a bit and came back to a drunken Brassman licking a mirror with a guitar, telling us he played a deck with magic that takes mana.  I ask if he’ll dance for a quarter and he does a jig, and I throw him a coin which he tries to pick up, but collapses only to discover it was a nickel!  Then a wallet flies through the air exploding with money all over the floor.  People rush around it while a half naked, and very disturbed Feinstein screams “This isn’t a fucking drug cartel”.  And then Brassman reminded us playing spells for free is better than using this shit called mana.

I'll finish the rest tommorow or whenever.

I apologize for my part in that, but I'd never actually read the card.
I vaguely knew there was some kind of removal trigger,
but I couldn't remember what it was or whether it was manditory.
If it was optional, I thought I'd be interfering if I picked up the card to look at it.
I was looking it up on the Oracle when your opponent blew up your second Plat.
By the time I found it, the game was over.
At that point, it's too late to back up.

I was not aware of ignoring you.

Anyway, as I said, I apologize.
I also have to apologize for calling Hatch Travis, but that's a different story.

Oh well hopefully we both learned something from that one Smile

I guess it's possible you didn't hear me over the 130 magic players, 40 or w/e WOW regionals, and X yugioh players.  It was really, really, really packed at around 1 PM at Gaming Etc.
