FEINSTEIN'S FIRST MOX TOURNAMENT:

SUNDAY, AUGUST 12TH

RUN BY:
DAVE FEINSTEIN!

LOCATION:
DISPOSABLE HEROES
1428 HARTFORD AVE
JOHNSTON, R.I.
02910
(401)432-7710

START TIME: 12:15 SHARP.
REGISTRATION 11:00-NOON.
(THAT MEANS DON'T COME LATE.  I HATE GIVING OUT PENALTIES.  :p)

COST: $25 (THIS INCLUDES FREE LUNCH!)
15 PROXY.

Howdy Smile  After much consideration and receiving what I felt to be enough interest, I will be holding a tourney for a guaranteed mox sapphire (mine :p).  I'm going out of my way to make sure this tournament will be awesome because I've had alot of fun at mox tourneys and it felt like the right time to finally hold one.
This will be held at my local store and the entry fee includes Drink+Chips+Pizza.

The prizes right now are going to be to all of top 8.  I just got confirmation of the tourney today so nothing is set in stone right now, but a rough prize structure looks something like this:

1ST PLACE: SAPPHIRE
2ND PLACE: CHOICE OF 4 PLATEAUS OR 2 OLD MAN OF THE SEA OR 2 VOLCANIC ISLAND
3RD-4TH: WHATEVER 2ND PLACE DIDNT WANT.
5th-8th: Table packed with goodies.  Goodies include Fetches, New duals, DCI Promos and Packs!
THE MORE PEOPLE, THE MORE GOODIES.

ALL PRIZES OUTSIDE OF FIRST ARE SUBJECT TO INCREASE BASED ON ATTENDANCE.  PRIZES LISTED ABOVE ARE FOR 32 PEOPLE.  IF UNDER 32 PEOPLE PRIZES WOULD DECREASE BUT THE SAPPHIRE IS GUARANTEED REGARDLESS OF ATTENDANCE!

I will be buying/selling cards all day.  My buy/sell prices will be good.  I know that's vague, but if you are looking to buy/sell you won't be disappointed =)
The store also has a good inventory of cards including alot of older type one stuff I don't have.

DH is a great store with huge space and they've been dying for a type one tournament.  They used to run them and had good success in the past.  I'm out to make sure my tourney will be a good time for all.  I am a level one judge but the store will be helping me run it to ensure smoothiness (it's a word).  The mox being given away is again guaranteed regardless of turnout, but I checked around and this date doesn't seem to fall on anything so I'm hoping the turnout will be decent.  It's also good testing since it's the week before Gencon.

The store is located in Bond Plaza.  The parking is in the rear of the building.  It's located above Corner Pocket Bar and Grill.  The website with easy to get to directions is
www.dhocards.com.  Any questions at all can be left here or can be pm'd to me.  I will be making flyers shortly and promoting this event.  Just so you know, the mox is in great condition and has been good to me over the years.  Sadly we'll be parting ways, but you have the chance to win it on August 12th.

See you all there!

- Dave Feinstein =)

*all proceeds from tourney go to the Mommy Feinstein's Birthday foundation

With the event steadily approaching I've gotten incredible feedback and feel fairly confident that it will reach the desired 32+ people which would enable me to give out the nuttiest prizes possible.  I'm basically giving out as much as I can without going broke :p

Here are the prizes I expect to give out assuming I have 32 or more people.  Obviously this gets adjusted if I get less than 32, and I'll adjust even higher if significantly over.

1ST- SAPPHIRE
2ND- CHOICE OF 4 PLATEAUS OR 2 OLD MAN OF THE SEA OR 2 VOLCANIC ISLAND
3RD- WHATEVER 2ND DIDNT TAKE!
4TH- WHATEVER 2ND AND 3RD DIDNT TAKE Razz

5-8th- choice of extensive goodies.  Confirmed goodies include fetch lands, new duals and 10th edition packs, all to be chosen by you... just make top 8.
Anyone who knows me knows I like it when the top 8 actually get good prizes... you wont be disappointed =)

9th-16th: 3 packs of 10th edition each

Instead of second place getting something in the 60-70 range and third and fourth place only getting like 20-30ish in prizes as traditional mox tourneys go, I decided to just give out $50-$60 in cards to 2nd/3rd/4th each and they choose what they want based on how they finished.  Again these awesome prizes are based on 32+ people, so show up!  Entry fee includes free lunch and you're looking at roughly a 50/50 shot of some sort of prize based on my structure.  How can you go wrong?

Finally, all proceeds go towards the mommy feinstein's birthday foundation.  Her brithday is the day after my tourney :p

That's it for updates for now.  I'm finishing up flyers and will be distributing these at upcoming tourneys.  Any questions as always you can leave them here or just ask me in person.  I'll be around alot, including at waterbury.

Thanks again for the positive responses and interest so far <3

I should be at this one, even if I have no idea how to play vintage anymore.  Feinstein lives in my backyard, literally! Get out of my yard!

The feedback for my tourney has been fantastic and I'm really just shaping things up for this Sunday.

I was trying to come up with more top 8 prizes as I looked over my collection when my mom informed me that some cards came in.  This puzzled me as I wasn't expecting anything... WOTC decided to send me a boatload of promos and I'm making those part of the prize pool  =)

Still sealed in plastic is a textless foil WOG, also sealed in plastic is a textless cruel edict with about 9-10 other unidentified cards.. I'm calling this a mystery pack because other than the cruel edict I have no idea what's in it and refuse to break the seal to find out.  Instead the 'mystery pack' (which could contain pretty much any non-judge dci promo since they are distributed at random) will be one of the top 8 prizes.  The WOG will also be a part of the prize pool, I haven't decided where I'll fit it in yet.

Just for clarification, my tourney is 15 proxies and any outside proxies still count towards your proxy count.  That means popular proxies such as ELD proxies still count as a proxy if used in my tourney.  I support ELD/Myriad tourneys 120%, but I just want everyone to have the same shot at proxies in my tourney.
I find 15 proxies to be very reasonable but if anyone is having extreme issues with a deck I'll do what I can to help.  If you have an issue getting some cards I've lent out god knows how many in the past (and borrowed a fair amount myself :p) so don't be afraid to contact me via PM.

Also people keep asking me what the free food will be.  Even though I said it in my opening post :p, there will be guaranteed drink+chips+pizza with entry fee.  Additional slices/drinks/chips as well as candy will be for sale, the store has infy food.

I passed out alot of flyers lately.  They are adorable and have a kird ape holding a mox on them.  Thanks to Brassman for making it.  I'll link one here at some point soon.

Thanks also to all of the local NE tourneys for letting me plug the holy hell out of this event.

That's all I have for now.  Pretty much everything is coming together smoothly and I'm counting the days (6 :p) until I can hold this.

Thanks again for all of your interest and support.

It Is now the night before the tourney and zero hour is upon us!

I have pretty much everything ready and am just finalizing some things.  Although I'm not taking any pre-registrations it would be recommended to have your decklist typed ahead of time (with proxies marked).  http://www.mtgontario.com/index.php?name=Downloads&d_op=viewdownloaddetails&lid=13 is where I print out my deck reg sheets but you can get a dci deck reg sheet off many different web sites.

I am very excited for the tourney and fully expect to be able to give out what has been advertised and then some =)

I'll have my digi camera at the ready and have a good amount of things for sale (including a kick ass $1 and under binder with extensive goodies)

Again I'll be closing registration at Noon so please do everything you can to have your decklist done and turned in by then.  I h8 giving out penalties but will do it if I have to =(  If there is some extenuating circumstance you can call the store at (401) 432-7710 but I can't promise I'll be able to do anything for you if you're running late, so please aim to be here and have your decklist turned in by noon AT THE LATEST.  Doors open at 11 am.

The store is in Bond Plaza above Corner Pockets Bar and Grille (a great restaurant) and parking is in the back.  I have the store helping me out as far as running the tourney and they have given me plenty of space to work with.  There may be poke-kids tomorrow (something I was only informed of just now ;p) but the store has HUGE amounts of space so that won't be an issue.  Please be nice to poke-kids and don't try to run them down, they are people too.

This should be a fantastic time for all.  I really just want everyone to be happy and will be doing all that I can to ensure that's exactly what happens.

I'm going to try and get some sleep now.

See you all tomorrow =)

I haven't slept in 2 days so this will be quick...

A full and detailed rerport of my event will be up later, but in a nutshell 48!!! people showed in what was hands down the best time of my life at a vintage tourney.
I was very sick but had a great staff to support me and the players were phenomenal.

I can't thank everyone enough who decided to show to this.  Everyone was very positive about the event as far as I can tell and multiple people told me they had a blast, which is all I wanted.  To give an idea of how much ass the New England magic scene kicks, after 6 rounds 40 of the 48 players were still hanging around to play for the sheer fun of it.

I just can't give my thanks enough to all who came.  This wasn't just New Englanders either, a great group of guys came down from LONG ISLAND via ferry to play in this.  I just can't tell you how appreciative I am of people willing to support me like that.

There will certainly be another mox tourney, probably next month.  I'll get to that later as well.

Top 4 was...

Rob D'Alfonso of team GG's /w goblins vs. Matt Mc Nally of team TPS /w GAT

and

Dan Yarrington of team Ball and Chain /w TMWA Vs. Nate Pease (!) of team GG's /w GAT

Matt beat rob and Nate beat Dan, giving us an all GAT finals.

Despite that finale, the top 8 decks were extremely vaired with many unique things doing well.

Just to get something out of the way, Nate was allowed to come to this tourney because I invited him.  It had been 8+ months and I believe in second chances.  He was completely fine and not one person complained about him in the tourney (There were some initial winces at the beginning but everything was hunky-dory when the tourney actually started).

Please do not turn this thread into a Nate Pease discussion

I let him in my tourney and he'll be allowed in my future ones as of this time, that's really all I have to say about that.  If other TO's still want to still dis-allow Nate from playing that's their choice, but I would ask those who have to reconsider based on today.

Generally speaking, there was not a single instant of issues with any player at all during the entire tourney, which absolutely boggles my mind.  It was literally out of a dream... everyone was friendly and people left happy.  That's all I could ever ask.

Time to sleep, but again thank you to all for showing and I look forward to seeing you all again.  Report going up /w top 8 decklists later.

Thanks so much, you all made this event amazing for me and I really can't thank everyone enough.

- Dave Feinstein =)
