Hi Sparo,

We met and played last night on the MWS server. I'm glad to see that you've decided to create an account on The Mana Drain. This is a great place to discuss Vintage Magic.

Your deck was very interesting to play against; it worked by dropping different lock pieces while playing threats. Something of a more aggressive take on Landstill.

Your deck is original, and makes some choices different from what a person might expect. Could you please go into a bit more detail about some of them?

One idea is that of Trinket Mage. He fetches Top, which is excellent in your deck. He is a rather strong card against the aggro decks that might give your deck trouble. He finds Engineered Explosives and various other control elements; and, he has synergy with the Ninja.

Another idea is trying Standstill. At several points in our games, I was thinking how much that card would end the game. This might be a sideboard card, as it does little against a resolved Tarmogoyf. However, if you have a Mishra's Factory and the opponent does not have any threats, Landstill can be a powerful spell.

Interesting list,

What do you do if your opponent resolves a creature?

Aren't 4 Arcane Labs too many?  That seems more like a Sideboard card than a maindeck card, but it depends on whether or not you play against a lot of combo decks.  I think that with your current disruption package combo just about scoops to you.

Correct me if I am wrong, but if you Ninja out a Factory that essentially costs 4 mana to draw one card. (1U Ninjitsu, 1 activate Factory, Tap Factory.)  That seems pretty inefficient despite the fact that you can replay Factory.  You typically don't want to ninja out Meddling Mage unless you named a wrong spell.  The Standstill suggestion is a good one if you decide to keep 4 Ninjas in the deck.

Good luck with the deck, ciao.

Interesting.

I've made a similar deck before trying to recreate MonoBlue to present day competitiveness. It used Arcane Lab and Spell Burst for a fairly hard lock, while beating down with Factories.

So check out Spell Burst. It is normally an average to subpar counter, but also a part of the combo.

If you want to see the list, just ask.

Ninja doesn't seem very good without more creatures to support it.  I'd like to see at least four more.

You're running black... why no Dark Confidant?  Everyone is sick of that question, especially in Legacy, but it's an autoinclude in Fish-esque decks.

    3  Counterbalance
    1  Enlightened Tutor
    1  Imperial Seal
    4  Arcane Laboratory
    4  Mana Drain
    3  Misdirection

Seconded, 4 Confidants could be found amongst these 16 cards.  Or 2 Confidants.  Bob isn't an all or nothing kinda guy.
