PICS!

Who knows what's going on, or who's playing, but the guy on the left is likely losing.

You no kill this! Kird Ape ANGRY!

LotusHead, being sent to the NoobFactory round 1.

Fuckin' Junior taking pictures of me like I'm a fat ass just because he got chewed up by Eirik Aune way too quickly.

I think that's a Leyline.

Dude's I don't know, with deck's I don't know, but they get facetime in case they ever troll these forums. Smile

Ditto

I'll let this pic speak for itself. (read: Junior has no soul)

Uh, I got nothin. I don't know what's going on here, but pics is better than no pics.

Powered UR LandStill vs Kavu Predator and friends. Everyone has to start somewhere.
My first Vintage Experience (in the post-Fetchland Meta) was my "Merfolk Deck with Safe Haven Tech" vs Long.dec.  I actually HAD 4 Force of Wills in that deck, but with my opponent's 18 cards in hand (and Storm Kill, which I hadn't heard of), it didn't matter.

Austin, Rocking with Permanents, vs Aiune. Austin is apparently wearing his "Saturday Shirt", not to be confused with the identical "Sunday Shirt" he wears during Eudemonia Season. STFU! He's on my team.

Stay in school.

Huang on Schambers action. Vintage is 1st turn Combo...NOT!

Prison means JeffTheFob spents 20-30 resolving his own LandDrop. (I kid!)

Junior vs Dude on Michael Painter's team (Josh?John?Joe?JimDangle?...uh. Looking at list: Joe Mazzei!) rockin' with MY PROXY'S THAT I MADE:

Whaaaagh! Dragonaughts! Vs Austin

Swamp and Jet vs Aune's Bargain.

This match ended in a draw.  Kevin has a good attitude, however.
If he wannted to be worried/upset, he'd be a real-estate broker or something.

Junior vs Luis' nothing.

LSV stands for LuckSackingVerygoodattopdecki ngyawgmoth'swill.

Luis Topdecks Will.

The game that wouldn't die.  Seriously...

Seriously...This was the same field for like 30 minutes.
All good. Both players played professionally.

10 minutes into turn 1.

14 minutes into turn 1.  Not to rag on Jeff, because there was shuffling infolved, possibly mulliganig, and a complete lack of FlashHate by Jeff, but this game was amazing to watch on both sides....
Both players had broken hands, each undone bo the other. (Jeff Gushed into Lands a lot I heard...)

To be fair, Richie Flashed so many games (game 2 and otherwise) I couldn't get a pic in edgewise.

My mini-report for now.
My noob teammates tore up my perfectly fine MudStaxDomination deck in the Vintage Improvement forum and put out a shit deck, and another shit deck.
I was gonna let one teammate shit out lock peices and beat with juggs while I pilot Salvagers, and the other would pilot something else.
They done fucked it all up and I find myself piloting "No post-SB-test URW Salvagers" and they piloted "Netdecked from last year Oath of Noobs and built in the car ride up Stax.
Doh!

Round 1:
I forget his name because he dropped: UGB Fish or MAYBE DeezNaughts (I didn't see squat but Bob and Goyf)
He beat me.

Round 2:
Austin "Team Vacaville" Scrubtinez
ID

Round 3:
Kevin Shoemaker- Stax
I pwn him game 1 with explosives and a Mana Drain on his Sol Ring early on
I pwn him game 2 with my sided in Mox Monkey!

Round 4:
Kevin Schambers - Stax
Game 1 Combo him out with EOT bounce
Game 2 He Tinker's for Titan under 2Sphere protection
Game 3 My Turn 2 Tinker/DSC is trumped by his Turn 2 Tinker Platinum Angel.
My Brainstorm for the win! didn't produce the 5th land/fetch neccessary to Rack and Ruin his shit from -25 life.

Round 5: Mono-Black 12 Year old Pilot Discard/Rack.Hippy.Shade.MindTwist.dec. (with Cabal Coffers).
I give him two games of magic. He got me down to 3 by end of game two, and I used Ancient Tomb to put me to 1, but pulled out the win. Go me.
11th out of 22. I'm good at this game.

Something is wrong about Ricky Sidher's list since he sideboarded dark confidants in our T8 match.

Any reason why the entire top 8 isn't listed? Request or unavailability?

All the lists are there, for some reason "Dylan Pascual – RG Beats" isn't listed with the T8 decks at the very top Lotushead.

I scrubbed and went 1-3 drop. Felt like I punted a few games away. Couldn't draw a FoW in like 8 cards one game to protect my would have been lethal flier.
Did a few errors in my game vs. Austin as well by not using my Will turn to my full potential (casting the Fastbond at such a low life for the second time in the game and not using the emerald (tropical) to cast it. Had a few more blue spells I shoulda cast before passing the turn and waiting for Wee to take him down from 6. Maybe I could have KEPT my FoW being at 2 life instead of going to one with Fastbond. Then I could have avoided having to block the Crucible with my beater. G2 was one sided though with a double Trike blanket party cast through Thorn as well.

Hello~ Haven't posted in a while, might as well make a tourney report kind of post to get back in groove~

Friday was the last day of instruction and class for me.  Not having to teach or go to class made me very happy.  I was even happier when Luis told me that Adventures had a type 1 tourney on Saturday.  Eirik just finished his final while I was just... happy... so 3 of us went down to Adventures.

While I was going through my Meddling Mages and Jotun Grunts I realized one thing...I haven't sleeved up Yawgmoth's Will in a long time :-p But felt like I should do so after I fished GAT a couple times.  I love Ponder in the GAT, it is just so smooth.  Shuffles, cantrips, and it just does everything.  And again, after fished it a couple times I realized... GAT is pretty good... how come it took me a such long time to realize that? xD

Despite not posting, I have been lurking around in the forums as always and ELD's list made a pretty big impression for me.  I was pretty amazed by such consistency, power, and winning ^^ I started off with his list.

Lotushead posted my list.  Basically I have the 1-2-3 punch of 1 Tog, 2, Goyf, and 3 Dryads as my creature base.  One of the reason behind this creature base is to mix it up.  Two, the more important reason.... lets say it is for value ^^||| I will discuss more about this after the tourney~~~ I also cut 1 Mis-D because I anticipated DI Stax and creatures/goblins deck where Mis-D just not shine.

My board is composed of taking care of Stax mainly.  2 oxidize to handle Chalices, 2 Energy Flux to try to hose, 3 Pithing Needles for Wastelands, Welders, and other decks and etc etc etc.  I was fairly happy with the sideboard too (until the semi-finals)

Time to battle:

Rd 1.  Landstill.  For some reasons I forgot his first name... Raymond? And I think he posted on this very thread ^^ *awkward.
G1- I lost die roll, not happy because he played Stax the last couple times in Eudo when I met him.  So I mulled to 6, found FoW and some other cantrip and was fairly satisfied.  He then played Faerie Conclaves and said go.

What, the, fcuk.  That ... isn't Stax at all.  So by the 3rd turn I think we fought over a standstill which I successfully countered.  The next turn I Duress him find Crucible and Null Rod.  I forgot the exact position I know I only have Jet as my only black resource and know I am short on mana, soI had to take his Null Rod :-/ So he resolved his Crucible the next turn.  Meanwhile my goyf was beating him down fairly quickly.  I then resolved a Dryad, played a Lotus and was setting up for a Yawg. Will next turn.  But then he ripped a Null Rod, cast it, so I had to sac. Lotus for something, then he CoV my Goyf.  So it wasn't looking good for me all of a sudden.  However, he didn't have much action and I resolve my Goyf again.  He was forced to chump with a Faerie Conclaves every turn and I just won off Goyf.

G2- I boarded in more Goyfs.  First game took a while.  But not the second game.  I resolved some Goyfs and rode them to a fairly fast victory.  Felt like playing Fish, resolve guys, tempo, beat, with counters xD

Rd 2.  Dylan with r/g
G1- I have Recall, FoW, and some juicy stuffs.  But knowing he was r/g I can't really just lay down the Dryad in my opener without growing it.  So while I was setting up for that, I took some damage and he resolved a skullclamp.  Holy fcuk that card was good.  He was able to draw some cards off from it and stinggourger bounced my Dryad and he killed me.

If I had goyfs, it would had been different.  I'd not had to worry about growing it and would had took less damage.
G2- Like Rd 1 G2, I resolved 2 Goyfs and just beat in.

G3- My opener was nice, it was nicer when I ripped Fastbond, Gush'ed and played Goyf.  However, the top cards of my library were lands and my hands were pitch counters.  We were holding off each other, but he had clamp again... I lost a close game.  Upon reflection, I should had played differently because I think I found Yawg Will on top of my library, I should had boarded differently because I didn't board in needle for some reasons (and needle seems good against him ^^)

Rd 3- Kevin with Stax.
G1- I haven't played against him in a while.  Or ever, after seeing him for like years and years at Eudo and here.  I probably should had mulled this hand: duress, Fow, underground sea, goyf, mis-d (to pitch to FoW), Dryad, and Demonic Tutor.  I figured, I am boned to wasteland.  But he have a workshop almost for sure, and definitely a sphere or two.  Which I can handle via 1st turn duress and FoW.  However, not having any cantrips or card draw... I was just playing off top of my deck and wasteland can just... bone me as I mentioned.

So I kept.  Duress him, seeing wasteland, 2 spheres/thorn, razormane, trike, mox, and workshop.  GG fob.  I took his sphere, FoW his other sphere.  Then he played mox and another sphere.  I didn't draw land.  He played a wasteland.  Two turns later he played another workshop.  >_<\\\

G2- I boarded out the duress Mis-D, some dryads for like... 11 cards.  I made a turn 1 Goyf.   He tried to resolve a trike, which I allowed.  My Goyf was a 1/2, so he tried to shoot; okay.  Shoot again, I played brainstorm, he then tried to shoot again and I oxidized his Mox :-p Making it 4/5 (artifact, creature, land, instant) Goyfs takes it down.

G3- Refer to Lotushead's picture up there.  I kept a slowish hand, forgot the content, but it was good enough.  Then the board went to a position of... 3-sphere, SoR, and Chalice on 2.  However, I was able to cast a lot of cantrips and card draw that I found both of my oxidizes and took care of the chalice and 3-sphere.  Lucky? Partially, it is also due to the raw power of this deck.  I got a dryad and goyf this game, not just the goyf this time ^^

Rd 4. Greg Bare.  I knew his brother from playing magic ^^
G1- I resolved turn 1 tog.  Greg made some bad blocks... I took it down soon enough.
G2- He played Leyline.  I stare at my Yawgwill in my hand, he gave me a sad face back.  But the Goyf next to it kept my happy.  It is true that leyline stops things in my graveyard, but honestly, creature, land, and instant will make my goyfs big enough.  However, I didn't play goyf first, I played dryad.  And she got pretty big, which is all I actually really needed to take it home, but I got Goyf in there and pretty much it was smooth sailing.  I don't think Greg played vintage all that much, his inexperience and his lack of sleep (as he dropped and went to sleep after losing) didn't help...

Rd 5. LSV with General Chicken Combo.
FOB was signed as my name.

Quarters.  REMATCH BETWEEN DYLAN!!!!11
G1- I actually lost that game with fastbond, big dryad, and goyf [see picture].  I lost to skullclamp and my indecisiveness.  I was a very small life when I stabilized while he kept skullclamp going.  I duress and found he had DI lands.  If I have the balls earlier I might had won.  Also, I was afraid of stinggroguer, but it was not relevant because I didn't find a counter anyway.  I felt like I played bad, who knows.  FYI: the first two pic of quarters are g1.

G2- Game 1 took long time.  G2 didn't.  I found goyfs fairly quickly, pitching my ancestral recall that I just scrolled to FoW his goyf, but my guys just got there.

G3- My hand was broken.  Goyf, FoW, Mox, Merchant Scroll, cantrips, land.  I found Yawgwill and Lotus, it wasn't a close game at all.  He also mulled to 6.  Last pic on quarters was G3. So I wasn't so sure of the captions.

Semi- Richard with Flash.  This match up is SO bad, I have no Leyline, HAVE to rely on FoW and Duress (on the play) and was expecting to lose.
G1- I won die roll with 2 pitch counters in hand.  He dropped land, lotus, brainstorm, and PASSED.  I then found a duress and took away his Flash.  His hand was pretty lackluster, a berserked dryad took it home.  I won a surprising g1.

G2- I mulled to 6 claim that I am mulling for Leyline.  But I found a FoW which he duress away fairly fast.  He Flash me with a counter back up, I just didn't get there.

G3- So the last two pics were about G3, yes, turn 1 did took about 10 min.  It could had been a min. or two faster, but definitely 10 min. was not slow.  I have emerald, lotus, merchant scroll, brainstorm, duress, jet, and underground sea.  SO I play all artifacts, brainstorm, played duress.  HOLY FCUK, what do I see? (check out the pictures) I see: Flash, Mis-D, Mystical tutor, duress, pearl, Summoner's Pact, and Flooded Strand.  It was semi's so lots on the stake.  It may be easy now, but I have to take either Flash or Pact; to prevent dying.  But what was annoy was what do I do next? Cast merchant scroll and get recall was my plan, but that ain't working with mis-d.  So my plan was to Yawgwill at this point.  This plan should had been clear, but wasn't to me on the spot.  Maybe lack of experience, whatever.  But I really don't think with top 2 on the spot, the deciding game, facing opponent's nut draw that it isn't fair to say I slow play [not that anyone in particular did, I am just saying].  To be fair, throughout the whole day none of my match went to time in swiss.  And I played a lot of g3's.  The landstill match took 35 min.

Anyways, he didn't rip a winner.  So I Will'ed next turn.  Playing Duress, Lotus, and etc.  I screwed up here major by tapping the wrong mana.  So instead of having an extra blue to find me an ancestral recall or even to brainstorm, I found gush and burned for one.  But I duress him again and his hand is pretty much apart now.  Gush netted me a ponder, which I found another duress.  So at this time, if I didn't tapped the wrong mana earlier I could had been more ahead.  But he never really recovered after the triple duress and as I drew more cards than him.

But the game last for like 10 more minutes because I can't find a kill condition.  He even gave me 3 poison counters.  I brainstormed, merchant scrolled, gushed, and pondered into more cantrips and lands.  And I found a goyf eventually, everyone applause.  I smothered his sliver and then goyf went for the distance.

The game ended up taking kind of long in early games because that is all it mattered with Flash.  If you survive the first couple turns you are in the safe zone.  I was battling for that safety zone.  Two, took long because I cant find Goyfs.  Everyone saw after I stabilized I drew DI cards but never found a win condition.

So at this point LSV already manage a split with Ricky already.  Good, my head was about to asplode anyways.  That last game took a toll from me.  Not having anything against Flash really sucks.

About the deck... I felt like if I had goyfs instead of dryads in some of the games I could had won.  But dryad did carry me through couple games, which I think goyfs could had done the same too.  It also depends on meta I guess, I played against 2 r/g, so goyfs are just really good in that match up.  With dryad I have to worry about it surviving and etc, and stinggroguer is a bitch.  Ponder is like the missing puzzle for me in GAT.  Prior to ponder I never felt comfortable with GAT, but now with Ponder, everything seems to run much more smoothly.  Not having leyline sucked, it was calculated risk anyways.  I guess this is all meta talk though, so meh~~~

How can I not end this report without props and slops?

I just did.  Thanks for reading~~

Well, here's how I got the lists.  Any errors are mine. Point 'em out, I'll fix in original lists.
EDIT: Just noticed the Morphling.de link.  I believe I have now fixed everyone's Sideboard.

Nice report. The term "pwn" was entirely accurate in our match round 3 =P My horrid record explained in a very short "report" (the size is actually description of a couple of funny matches):
I am playing, of course, Stax.

Round 1 vs Ricky with SuperLong-ish
Games 1 & 2: No real lock peaces resolve from me (stupid FoW countering Spheres), and I die to ye olde Tendrils.

Round 2 vs. Some guy who's name I can't remember despite playing him at 2 tourneys now with RG "IHateStax.dec"
Game 1: I think I stalled a bit, but then got railed.
Game 2: He goes Kird Ape. I got Shop + Crypt = Razormane Masticore (sideboard tech, goblins hates it =P). Quote, "Wow, that's good... as a target for Tin-Street." Poor Razormane... we trade back and forth with stuff, then I think it was this game where I land the Balance Of Doom, and take his entire hand, all his creatures, and 2 of my own lands... while I've got crucible. Game ends in a few turns in my favor.
Game 3: This story I hope goes down as one of the great dumb mistakes of our time. He's got only a Kird Ape on the board as I've been doing the Stax thing to the best of my card draws. I have a Chalice@1, Trini, and Razormane Masicore, as well as some other stuff that didn't matter. He pulls a card and looks upset, to which I respond, "Didn't find Shattering Spree?" (I know he's running them, seen him discard one last game). One of Lotushead's scrub teammates responds, "It wouldn't do anything" pointing to my Chalice and Trini. I say, "Dude, those don't matter, Spree gets around them." I knew I had done something very bad, as you all may have guessed already, when he leaned forward and said, "So wait, what about Spree?" I looked at him, put my forehead in my palm and went, "Aw crap, you have one don't you..." and then proceeded to explain that replicate gets past both Chalice and Trini. He wipes my board of the 3 real problems and then says, "If I had known that from the start, Razormane would still be beating my face right now." This was all with like 7 spectators, so the whole tourney knows the story. Of course, most stuff in quotes paraphrased because my memory sucks. Anyway, that was a long report of Round 2, but I think it was needed... maybe this'll go into a funny stories thread or something.

Round 3 vs Lotushead with Bomberman
Game 1: Pwned because no real lock pieces hit, see Round 1.
Game 2: Pwned by a Mox Monkey because, in an amazing run of bad luck, I drop Chalice@0 turn 1 hoping to keep his combo from going off, to which his hand of no 0 cost and about 4 1cc spells goes, "Oh thank god that wasn't @1". Trinket Mage aids the monkey in keeping my board clear and beating my face. Wee.

Round 4 vs. A kid who's name I can't remember with Discard+Rack=Pain.dec (see Lotushead's round 5)
I win one game by being Stax and LOSE another game (can't remember order) to The Rack + Mana Crypt. Ow. Bad Stax. We then go to time and barely draw with me at around 2 life from another Rack that resolved. Gah. Where's Chalice@1 when you need it? Oh right, that came down AFTER Rack... But it was fun, and I was already in the loser's bracket by this time, so I don't care about win/lose, just playing the game. Sucks too, because my round 5 opponent poofed and I won the round by default. Drat.

And that's the story of me sucking into a record of 1-3-1 with my only win being because the guy left and didn't officially drop. Think it was actually Dr. Tongue, but I can't remember his real name ^_^;

Overall, a fun if unrewarding tourney. Sorry if I rambled, I tend to do that...

My bad on that shadowofrpgfreak. I didn't think the 1-3 bracket would be very populated with players at that point. I like to play as well , but at that point I was disappointed with some choices I made during the day, etc.

Hope you at least got some trading time or a pick up game with someone else, again sorry for the inconveinance. Forgot to notify my intentions to drop at that point as I couldn't make the top8 (or knock anyone out of the top 8)  Smile That's always worth doing!

Rd 4.

You forgot to mention that I had also taken quite the physical beating the night before, including a Corona bottle to the back of the head. I'll be back on Saturday. I've been punching the cow carcass, drinking eggs, running up stairs, and listening to "The Eye of the Tiger".

If you're there and we rematch, lets make it memorable.
