[Apologies if this is not the correct forum, please move if so]

If all the formats, Vintage is probably the one with the least number of non-creature spells being cast (Though there's a much heavier set creature based decks not than at other times.)

What place could Mystic Remora have in this format?

I'm looking at decks that potentially need a lot of cards in hand in the early turns and a way to get them. I don't expect the Remora to stay in play past 2 upkeeps so your Mana investment shouldn't be too high.

There is a deck called Tyrant Blue that uses 4 Remoras.

This list is in the other forum.

If you wanted new ideas, I would have to stew on it a bit.

Here in Italy we used to play it 2 years ago as a 2/3-of in most of the TPS sideboards against mirror and control-combo.

Like madlucas, I used to use it in the SB for combo mirror matches.  It can act somewhat as a timewalk early on to prevent them from going off because each of their spells draws you more cards.

Another card that I used to use in mono U control was Rhystic Study.  It costs more, and they have to pay less, but it has no upkeep and it effects every spell.  In type 1 mana is at a premium, so you can't always afford to pay that 1 extra.

I see how Rhystic Study could be just as effective as Mystic Remora, but the point you make has to go both ways. If your opponent can't always afford the 1 mana to keep you from drawing, then you have to remember that you won't always be able to afford the 2 more mana that Rhystic is going to need to play in the first place.

Being able to cast Remora consistently turn 1 (without mana accel) is huge.  Bigger than the drawback of not drawing when your opponent casts a creature.

I have been interested in this card for ages and am glad to see this coming up in decks.
I never got to playtest it though because we have a funky meta here in Manila that you don't know which decks would be coming up.

Just a quick question though, how long should you keep Remora in play? Only 2 turns and thats it? Thats where I am having trouble with...
