So this is my tournament report for third/fourth place finish.  I played the same deck that I have been playing for about 2 years now, 5-Color Staxx.  In a way, I guess this kind of proves that the deck isn't all that bad...

Well, here is my list:

5-Color Staxx

Mana:
4 City of Brass
3 Gemstone Mine
4 Mishras Workshop
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine
1 Barbarian Ring
1 Bazaar of Baghdad
1 Tolarian Academy
5 Moxen
1 Black Lotus
1 Sol Ring
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt
1 Darksteel Ingot

The Lock:
4 Sphere of Resistance
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Smokestack
3 Crucible of Worlds
1 Trinisphere
2 In the Eye of Chaos

Dudes:
4 Goblin Welder
1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Sundering Titan
1 Triskelion
1 Duplicant

Broken:
1 Memory Jar
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Crop Rotation
1 Tinker
1 Balance

Plan B:
4 Leyline of the Void
3 Red Elemental Blast
2 Ray of Revelation
2 Ancient Grudge
2 Duplicant
1 Jester's Cap
1 Darkblast

Card Choices:
In the Eye of Chaos: I chose this to combat all the blue decks out there.  It was force of willed more than ever, when I attempted to cast it.  When it stuck around, it was a beating.  It won me a few games.  I believe this is a great way to stop Gush decks and to beat up on blue decks.

Darksteel Ingot: Part of the reason I run this is because of ItEoC.  It helps out with the mana fixing.  The reason I run this over Coalation Relic is because it is an indestructable mana source.  Also, it is foil, I don't own a foil Coalation Relic. =P

Duplicant: Maindeck to battle all the Aggro decks around...

Chalice of the Void: I chose this over Tangle Wire because I figured it would help slow faster decks down(flash, and the like) and it could also hose combo pretty well.  Set at one is pretty good against gush decks as well.

Sideboard:
The sideboard is pretty basic.  Dupes + Grudge for the shop aggro and aggro match ups.  Leylines for Ichorid.  Caps and ReBs for combo and Gush.  Rays for Oath and such.  The Darkblast is there for random aggro decks and Bobs and such. It was never used, though.

So there is no insane car ride stories, as the tournament is in my town.  There is no stories of staying up late and testing, or partying and whatnot.  I get to bed early, wake up and show up to the tournament site at about 10:30 am.  Tournament starts at 12, so I was really early.  I get some new sleeves and wait around, and talk to the tournament organizer.  I pick up an In the Eye of Chaos, so I was happy. My memory is bad because I am writing this report 2 days after the tournament...

The players start to show up, and I start scouting.  I soon come to realize that the metagame is TERRIBLE for stax.  The meta looked something like this:
7 Oath(tyrant)
4-5 Flash
2-4 Ichorid
6-8 Gush
3 Shop decks
1 Drain Tendrils
1 Stifle Nought (UNCLE PAT!)
1 Faeries (funny story at the end)

There was 28 players, 5 rounds, and a bad metagame for me....whatever  LET'S DO THIS!!!

Round 1: Travis w/ Drain Tendrils

I don't remember meeting him before, but apperantly he played fish before...
I lose die roll...

Game 1: I remember he playes some underground seas and duresses, but they dont get him very far.  I rip Tinker turn two and Tinker+Sundering Titan nuke his manabase. I then play Sphere+ Crucible...I rip strip mine and its off to game 2... His life goes 20, 19, 18, 14(can't remember), 7, 4, 3, gg.

I side in Rebs and Jester's Cap.

Game 2: He plays Fetch,  go. I play land, mox, go.  he plays crypt(?) and tinkers for Colossus and passes.  I play smokestack and pass back.  He then swings, I take a punch in the face, and passes.  I ramp smokestack and play mox monkey, nuke his mana(wasteland) and crypt, and pass. He looses Colossus and plays a land, brainstorm, and sol ring(?), then passes back.  My memory is fuzzy here, but I lose monkey.  He plays Yawg will, tinkers colossus and passes back...i think. I tinker for titan shoot his land, and pass.  His board is Colossus and Land(I think).  He trys to get tricky and EOT Chain of Vapors my Titan, looses his land, and sacs his colossus.  Triskelion cleans up. His Life goes 20, 19, 18, 11, 4, 3, 2, gg.

Round 2- Shane Berg w/ Oath
Shane is a local with his brother Kevin. Kevin helped me build and Modify my staxx deck to what it is now.  I knew shane is playing Oath and I am thinking CRAP! bad matchup number one...
I lose the Die Roll...

Game 1: I keep an iffy hand of Lotus, Resistor x2, Welder, wasteland, Smokestack, Academy.  Shane starts broken with trop, Fastbond, sea, thoughtsieze->lotus.  I play waste and shoot his trop.  I fear oath.  He draws and passes the turn! Draw and play Chalice+Academy, and pass back.  he draws and passes... I draw and play Wasteland+ Sphere.  He plays Island and taps out to Ponder.  I rip Strip, and nail both of his lands.  I proceed to draw Shop + Crucible which he concedes to...

I side in ReBs, Caps, and Rays.

Game 2: I keep a hand with double ray, but no white sources. Shane scares me with Trop, Mox, oath.  I play wasteland and nuke his Trop.  Shane draws and passes again.  I rip shop and drop sphere of resistance.  He draws, plays a land, and passes. I rip city of brass and pass. He draws the orchard and passes.  I EOT ray is Oath, and he gives me a dude and brainstorms.  I make a comment like "I hope you didn't find another Oath..." He drops an oath and passes.  I draw, flashback ray and play another sphere. In the end, I have 3 Resistors, Crucible, and Smokestack when he scoops...

Round 3: Scudder w/ Empy Gush
This match was intense, so my notes and memory isn't that good.
I win the die roll and mull...

Game 1: I lose some life to city of brass and he tinkers for colossus and eats me...

Side in ReBs and Jesters Cap

Game 2: I play Spheres and Crucible + Waste.  I find Smokey and we're onto game 3.

Game 3: This is a very intense game. The game goes long, I capped him twice, took his win conditions, and yawg will.  I end up with 3 Resistors on the field, with an ItEoC and chalice at 0 and 2.  I have a welder.  He has a bunch of mana, and I have 2 shops and 2 City of brasses, moxen, and bazaar.  He has cast leyline right after I played Bazaar. =(  Well, Scudder taps out to Empty with one storm count.  I have welder and we beat back and forth... I play duplicant and dont copy his dude.  He keeps ramping mana while I beat him down.  He eventually plays  rebuild and back goes my board.  He attacks me to 1 life and he is at two.  I attempt a duplicant, which he forces.  I then bazaar...hoping to draw trike...and lose.  I had Sundering Titan in hand with shop, shop and double city, and wasteland in play.  I couldn't cast it... but the match was very good and intense.  He played well.

Round 4: Collin w/ Gat
So I know Collin, though he is not a local.  Met him at tournaments...Collin consistantly plays Gat.  He has a sick DCI foil Cunning Wish that I want...=(  I have to win this match to top 8.
He wins the Die roll and I mull...

Game 1: It is a little hazy, but I believe I had Resistors and Crucible+Waste locking him down. I remember he started with Lotus + Land and responded to my turn 1 resistor with the beautiful Cunning wish->naturalize.  I lock the board up and cast trike. onto game 2...

Side in ReBs and a duplicant

Game 2: He starts with a mulligan, then keeps.  I knew something was up, he plays Land and lotus AGAIN. I then play mox, mox, mox, ItEoC. He forces. I play shop crucible and pass.  He cracks lotus and plays Energy Flux...ouch.  I keep Crucible, and play City and pass. He EOT Attempts to recall himself, and I REB his Flux. It resolves, he plays a land and passes.  I play shop and  and pass back.  He draws and passes the turn. I drop waste, and hardcast titan. It resolves and I pass. he draws, plays land and ponder or brainstorm(?) and passes back. I waste his land and drop resistor, he scoops.

So I am 3-1 and I look at the standings. I am in 8 seed with the 9th seed really close behind me.  I cant draw in =(, so I need to play it out...

Round 5- Todd w/ 5c Bob Staxx
Out of all the players, I play the mirror. I like the mirror, for some reason...
He wins die roll...

Game 1: My memory is a bit fuzzy but I remember in the end, I have resistor + Welder and he has resistor + Mox Monkey and no lands. I play crucible and, crop rotate for B-Ring and shoot his monkey.  He draws and passes, I draw Trike. GG.

Side in 2 Grudges and 2 Duplicants and a darkblast

Game 2- I can't remember much of this either, but I know in the end I have resistor + Crucible + Smokestack and he has no permanents. I have welder and Cast dupe. GG.

We play a game 3 and he whoops me.  He sided in 4 Grudges and 4 Leylines against me...ouch.

I make top 8 in first seed.
The top 8 looks like this:

Me- 5c Staxx
Darin- Shop Aggro
Adam- Ichorid
Matt- Empty Gush
Scudder- Empty Gush
Derik Solberg- Gush Bomberman
Pat- Stifle Nought
Josh- Flash

Derik beats Darin
Adam beats Scudder
Pat beats Josh
I beat Matt

Semis:
Derik beats Pat
Adam beats me

I believe Derik and Adam split.  This is Derik's last tournament and then he retires for a little while.  So, if you read this Derik, good luck on your life long journey.  Thanks for all your help, it was nice playing with ya!!!

Top 8- Matt w/ Empty Gush
Matt is Scudders teammate, I think. But he is also a good magic player.
I win die roll.

Game 1- I play chalice and some other stuff.  I start to lock the board down, after wastelanding his lands like 3 times in a row. I eventually drop trike and ride him to victory.  Apperently the Chalice wrecked him.

Sideboard the same as the other Empty Gush deck.

Game 2- I can't remember much of this except he takes pain from fetchland and force, and I take city of brass pain.  I believe he forced an ItEoC. I drop trike and ride him to victory again.

Sweet top 4!!!!
Top 4- Adam w/ Ichorid
Great, the match I have been dreading all day...I have played Adam before. I believe he has been playing Ichorid since it came out.  He is good with the deck.
I win the die roll...

Game 1: I play land, Sol ring, go. He plays bazaar and activates. I tinker for titan to try and race...but to no avail. I lose to stupid dumb zombies and ichorids...

Side in Leylines and a darkblast

Game 2: I start with a turn 0 leyline, then drop shop + chalice at 1.  he scoops, as he didn't think I would bring in leylines...so he sided wrong.

Game 3: I start with leyline, and it sticks around for a turn. He locates the Rev Silence, and blows it up.  He then proceeds to blow me up with zombies and his ichorid buddies...atleast I lasted for a few turns =D

So I lose a bad matchup.  My final record is 5-2, and I win a FBB Bayou. I sell that to Adam for his Ichorid sideboard and call it a night.

Props- James for holding the Event
OCC for being huge and new.
Berg for helping me with the deck
Taco Del Mar for being down the street
Mark for playing Faeries

Slops- Ichorid
Derik for retiring

<BONUS>
So my friend Mark helps put together Tyrant Oath for my friend steve.  Mark then decided he wanted to play, with 10 min left before registration closes.  Shane Berg hands him type 2 faeries and Mark adds a mox sapphire, recall, and time walk. He registers and plays.  Mark wins 2 matches agains Drain Tendrils(First round opponent) and Shane with oath(the guy who gave him the deck).  Mark has a final record of 2-3 with a type two deck. HAHA.

Thanks for reading. Comments on the deck are welcome.
I'm out...

I really need to pay more attention to my opening hands!  I had nothing against you both games (and actually paid attention when we played game 3 for fun), yet still kept the hands instead of going down to 6.  I brought in the Grudges/Lines right from the start, and should have mulled into something game 2.  Sadly both games you got out the Crucible first and went on to win it, oy.

Congrats on the finish, though.  Smile  Next time I'll get ya!

I counted 61 cards in that list. Is that correct?

Yes, I usually run 61. The original list only runs 3 welders, but I added the 4th because I like having 4.

Any thoughts?
