Heya,

Quote
I was thinking the same thing.
Alternatively, you can call non-blue and to deny them the ability to FOW and MisD. So it's not necessarily dead if you don't hit  one of your Blasts.

Not quite.  The text says that the spells and permanents gain the named color in addition to whatever colors they already have.  So it won't neuter FoW or MsD.  Wich is a shame. Wink

Peace,

lol. well that was a complete brain fart on my part.

Still it seems like it could be a decent addition. though i think it might be a bit narrow if it has no real applications without a blast. in a TMWA build at least

It won't deny them FoW or MisD.  Painter says in addition to, so the cards are still blue, there just other than blue as well.

Heya,

I placed second at my local Vintage tournament last weekend with this list:

Creatures
3   Atog
4   Elvish Spirit Guide
4   Magus of the Moon
4   Simian Spirit Guide
4   Martyr of Ashes
4   Tarmogoyf

Spells
3  Dead/Gone

Enchantments
2   Blood Moon

Artifacts
1   Black Lotus
1   Lotus Petal
1   Mana Crypt
1   Mox Emerald
1   Mox Jet
1   Mox Pearl
1   Mox Ruby
1   Mox Sapphire
1   Sol Ring
4   Sphere of Resistance
4   Thorn of Amethyst
1   Trinisphere

Lands
1   Ancient Tomb
1   Crystal Vein
2   Forest
2   Gemstone Mine
4   Great Furnace
4   Taiga

Sideboard     (15 cards)
4   Ingot Chewer
1   Dead/Gone
4   Pithing Needle
2   Tormod's Crypt
2   Red Elemental Blast
2   Pyroblast

It was a really small tournament following the Shadowmoor release event, so it wasn't a good test for this deck.  I beat Belcher, GAT, Stax, Mana Drain Painter's Servant, and lost to the new Doomsday deck running around.  I made several play mistakes in that last game, but had I not made them I bet I still would have lost.  I tried out Martyr of Ashes just for some extra aggro as well as mass damge to deal w/ Sliver, Goblins, and Zombie Tokens.  It didn't make much of a difference in the matchups I had.  I'd be happy to answer any questions about the deck if anyone has any Smile

Peace,

-Troy

Yeah, I can talk about the matchup.  My deck was much faster than his.  Half the deck is mana sources.  I don't think he got more than 4 mana on the board in either game.  Part of that might be he got mana screwed or it could be due to the light mana base he was running.  Game one I dropped a Thorn of Amethyst followed by a Magus of the Moon next turn.  A few turns later he had a painter's servant in play and blew up two of my permanents with his red blasts.  I had him down to 6 life when he played his Grindstone, but I responded by playing Gone (Dead/Gone) on his servant, bouncing it to his hand.  He didn't have enough mana left to recast the servant.  The next turn I killed him with an Atog.

Game 2, I subbed in the Ingot Chewers, Red Blasts, and Pithing Needles.  Turn 1 I got a needle in play set for Grindstone and that delayed him for a very long time.  Turn 2, I countered his FoW with my red blasts and landed a Trinisphere.   I got lucky and drew into three Tarmogoyfs. They ended up growing into 4/5's.  He managed to get both combo pieces in play again, but without the mana to activate the stone.  He had to block one of my goyfs with his servant to last another turn.  He didn't draw another nor any way to get another into play so I won.

If I were going to try to integrate Servant-blast into my decklist, I'd probably drop the Atogs for Servants, and the Dead/Gones and Blood Moons for Red Blasts.  Since my deck doesn't run a lot of search, I think Painter's Servant might be a bit of a risk to play.  I'm not sure.  If I played in an environment full of Flash, Oath, GAT, and TTS then I think the risk would probably be worth it.  In a diverse environment or a heavy Workshop, Ichorid, R/G Beats environment the risk is probably not worth it IMO.

Peace,

-Troy

Thanks for the reports, Troy and congratulations on your victory. Drop me a PM with your address and I'll send you some free TMWA foil cards for your deck!

Also, Kyle Guillemette made Top 8 again this past weekend at Myriad Games with his Ponies!!! version of TMWA.

And finally, what are folks thoughts on Painter integrating into TMWA. We saw a R/B Painter build of TMWA (featuring Magus as well) at the event this past weekend as well.
