http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/16441.htmlBlurb: Monday, September 22nd - The Vintage metagame currently rests between two ports of monumental change. The fallout from the first - the so-called Vintage Apocalypse that saw Blue staples hit the Restricted List – is chronicled today in Stephen’s metagame rundown. Stephen also updates his TPS list and shares an exciting Keeper deck, all before the metagame reaches its second port of change: the arrival of Shards of Alara.

I am having some trouble in understanding the significance of the 'other' category. When its percentage is high does that mean the field is diverse (even if the rest of the field is taken up by 2-3 decks)? When it is low does that mean that rogue archetypes are doing poorly?
Also, slaver seems kind of strange to me as people are continuing with a wide variety of builds, many of which skip on most of the mana denial elemnets of Jimmy and Brian's worlds lists. If the trend for slaver shifts toward what they played would that change whether or not tps is the 'best deck to play'?
As for grip and trickbind; their power hasn't really increased much other than the inclusion of painter into the metagame, does this affect them so much that the restrictive cost is now worth it? It seems like their cheaper counterparts coupled with counter backup would still be the most efficient way to go.
Great and informative article as always.

I spent a great deal of time analyzing this question in my previous metagame report. I suggest you check out that article for the answer to your question. http://www.starcitygames.com/php/news/article/16161.html

Thanks for the article Steve.
It's funny how "Mana Drain" constitutes such a high percentage of the metagame and people seem to be fine with that, while Gush never even got close to that figure and people whined. It also seems like the draw engine of choice is now "Thirst for Knowledge"...

Good article, really an interesting read, I was actually suprised by the high amount of Fish. Steve, do you think Alara will change any of these numbers (just looking for a quick answer), or will we have to wait 'till your next article to find out what you think about that?

Almost all of the Fish appeared in European touraments (and California ) I think Fish is a very popular choice in non-proxy metagames. Steve, do you think Alara will change any of these numbers (just looking for a quick answer),
Yes But not dramatically. At least, not at first. But I could be wrong

What's with the keeper reference? I don't have premium, but i'm wondering if you're trying to re-create a deck you didn't like and have bashed before? /Zeus Ps. I know the same could be said for TPS though

With ethersworn cannonist in the mix now and tezzeret timevault do you still think tps is the most powerful deck in the format? I play tps and ive played against the new parfait quite a few times and this match just seems way easier than than say workshop. But this is just me I'm kinda new to vintage, and when playing against oath what is the objective to win the game?Ive probably beat oath 2 times in a few months lol. They have so much disruption it seems like there is little chance to win.

How did you beat Parfait? That match seems unwinnable, esp. post-board. To answer your question, which is a great one, the better Tez decks get, the better TPS is, since it is my firm belief that Dark Ritual decks beat Drain decks. On the other hand, the printing of Canonist changes the entire format dynamic. So I'm not sure that TPS is still the overarching best deck anymore.

I beat it with a combination of bitterblossoms tarmogoyfs and massacres fromt the s/b plus the tendril's. I think tps has a ruff s/b with 1 land in it let alone 3.If there are no goyfs I notice you'll start losing a higher percentage of matches. With bitterblossom and goyf I started winning way more matches especially since massacre does not alot to red and blue fish or say goblins. Heres my s/b. 2 tormod's crypt, 2 extirpate, 3 massacre,3 pithing needle,2 bitterblossom, 3 tarmogoyf. Also 3 thoughtseize in the main. I use 1 hurkyl's recall in the place of merchant scroll, for a workshop match i always won the same wether there was more land or not, buy a lucky rebuild or especially hurky'ls recall. Im no type 1 expert and my opponents are probrably far from awesome in skill but the parfait matchup seems to depend on if they can resolve zuran orb. The parfait is a great deck and i can't wait to see how it hold's up to slaver and workshop.I've been thinking on what splashing blue would do for it or if it would make it less effective. What do you think of tps's oath matchup? Thanks.
