I am scheduling a Magic tournament in Columbus, another Meandeck Open.

Since the Legacy Grand Prix is just around the corner, I know there might be some serious interest in Legacy.  I wanted to gauge that interest and see which the player base would prefer.  Let me know!

I voted for Vintage since I might be able to make this event. If it's Legacy, though, I probably wouldn't come (nothing against it; I just don't play it).

The problem is that the Legacy Grand Prix is in early March.  This could be one of the few opportunities to test Legacy in a tournament environment, with stacked players in the Midwest.

I would also throw a vote to Vintage.

The events have been unlimited proxy for some time in Columbus, so I would assume this one would follow suit. Steve can give you the official word, though.

I voted for Vintage.

I would be disappointed and probably will not attend, if this tournament ends up as a Legacy event.

If it is Vintage, it would be unlim proxies.

The dilemma is this:  Everyone seems to want Vintage, but we think it would be better as Legacy.  The legacy grand prix is in early march.  This could be one of the few opportunities to get some good legacy tournament experience under our belt before the grand prix.  That's only two months.

You could also just hold two events on different weekends, I suppose. Surely there is some weekend between now and early March that would work for a Legacy event.

I think it's inevitable that you'll get a higher Vintage vote from a Vintage website.  You may want to post this at mtgthesource.com to see what their response is and compare between the two website's responses.  If more Legacy players would attend if it was a Legacy tournament than Vintage players would if it was Vintage, you'll either motivate more Vintage players to come out to make it a Vintage event or you'll get better preparation for the Grand Prix.  It would seem like a win-win from your point of view.

The dilemma is that a dozen people want to play Vintage, but as Steve correctly pointed out, it would probably be better as a Legacy tournament. The reasoning behind this is as follows:
1) There are no major Vintage tournaments on the horizon, however there is probably the largest Legacy tournament (in the USA) coming in 3 months time, at GP Chicago. For people that have the opportunity and interest to play both formats, most of their time going forward (through March) should be devoted to testing and playing Legacy, because the rewards are much greater.
2) The typical Vintage and Legacy tournaments in the area seem to draw about 16-32 people, regardless of the format. With Vintage you'll gain a few more people, but with Legacy and the potential interest because of the aforementioned GP on the horizon there is a potential for even bettere player turnout.

I won't be able to attend this tournament probably, but if I was planning on making the trip my preference would strongly be to play in Legacy tournaments through March.

Steve, if you want to make this tournament successful I'd recommend making your decision in the next day or two, and then promoting the hell out of it on every forum and everywhere else you can think of between now and tournament time. Get as many of your teammates to attend, offer some cool prizes and giveaways, etc. You also may want to push it back a week until AFTER the Christmas/New Year's week, if you want better attendance.

And consider having it on Saturday, which makes it easier for people coming in from longer distances as they have a day on the back end for the return trip or to rest.  (Also, I can't make Sunday.)

So what was the point of this Legacy vs. Vintage pole?

You should just be like "Meandeck Legacy Tourney!"

I personally don't care since I dominate in every format.

Lets go with Legacy.

Let me say that I am super glad that everyone voted.  I've talked with a number of people about it.

The consensus seems to be this: most people would prefer Vintage, but Legacy is also alot of fun.   Although they'd prefer Vintage, they also think that practicing for the Grand Prix is worthwhile, and that gives Legacy the edge.  We are going to run with Legacy, but Vintage will return!

Legacy is actually a blast of a format, and given how many amazing sets have come into the format since the last grand prix, it is going to be quite a shake-up.   All of the Vintage meandeckers are on board - and I sincerely hope you will be too!   I'll post a formal tournament announcement soon.

Thank you so much for your participation in this poll!

So what was the point of the poll then? 3 to 1 seems fairly decisive.

I will not be attending this event.

The poll was an important, but not the only information source.   The store owner said that alot of people in the area expressed interest in Legacy tournaments. I wanted to gauge not only support, but possible commitment from potential tournament goers.  My sense is that while obviously most people here would prefer Vintage, and many will be less likely to come as a result, there is still alot of support and enjoyment from/for Legacy, which may offset the Vintage loss.   Given the importance of the legacy tournament at the moment in light of the upcoming grand prix, we felt that it was too important not to do Legacy.   I promise Vintage will return, but I also think it's important to support Legacy, a really fun format.

People sure do bitch a lot, considering the thousands of Cash-Monies that are on the line in 3 months.   There is no reason NOT to go to this, if you have ANY desire to play in the Grand Prix.  And if you don't, you might possibly be retarded.
