Disclaimer: It is 4:30am and I'm in graduate school so this will be a quick and poorly written report without much detail.
The deck: Oath. read it when ELD posts it.
The cards I went with:
I chose to dump the Tezz kill because I just don't like it in a deck with orchard and thre are many creatures out there.
Lat-Nam's Something, is an awful awful card but with the restriction of brainstorm I needed something to solve the problem of having my big guys in my hand and I hate the card disadvantage and mana intensity of scroll rack. This deck runs a lot of land so I want it gone when I'm blown. And pitching to force and Misd is sweeter then pitching to 3 thirsts. I can get this with Mtutor
I love Mtutor to much to cut(see match two). I need it to get the Lat-Nam's as third way to put the creatures back in. Anything that gets me ancestral can't be that bad.
As for the single misdirection ....... it was a poor choice but love the card and have won a blue on blue match at every tourney for the past three years because I'm always lucky enough to have it when some one gets recall(see match one). That card has been good to me.
Why I choose the deck: When Shards was first released I went to ELD's tournament with an ad nauseous deck and got my face smashed in by round after round of pure hate and annoying creatures. That was an awful day. I played 2 dawn of the dead strangely enough.
I usually love making decks more then playing then and scrubbing due to strange ideas. But since I am in graduate school I figured I'd net deck FTW and change a few things based on my playstyle.
Match One: Nato with Painters and dreadnaught
This guy was fun and very friendly.
Game one he casts a first turn naught and I scramble to bounce but by the time I do a trinket mage and a painter do me in.
Game two he doesn't know I'm playing oath so I'm happy he doesn't know I have Gblessing when he tries to grindstone me.I end that game with flying death. By the way, he had a painter on the board and I would not have won if I didn't pitch an Akroma to a force of will when he tried to play a topdecked yawgs.
Game three he attempts to ancestral and I say, "I have a much better target for that" as I show him my single misdirection. Rock Lee was standing behind me as I said this, and concured with my hetero life mate J Longo that I was a dick for saying that. The funny part is that Rock Lee said those exact words at the last tourney I was at. LOL good times.
My opponent is a super nice guy and smoked with him outside often.
Match Two: Legacy ginger with stiflenaught counterbalance
Game one top was useless as always and just took wasted way to much time. I win counter wars and draw more cards till I merchant for mystical with 3counters in hard(including on line drain!). I Mystical for Yawgs EOT and when I show him empty the warrens and he sees my grave full of goodies he scoops.
Game two he gets an early counterbalance on line but has to sacrifice his hand in our counterwar to do it. He eventually counters my ancestral of desperation and some other stuff but I oxidize a trickbinded naught later. I play Lat-Nam's and he(not surprisingly) reads the card while I have two beasts in hand. Sad Times. I eventually get sick of counterbalance and just cast hardcast Hellkite. WWEEEEEEE! That's right I hardcast him(

{G})! And thanks to firebreathing for 3 and my volc I win on the next turn. Play of the day!
Third Match: Dan The Island hater.
This guy is one of the few gentlemen in our passtime. I love his rebellious decks and he's always friendly.
Game one I open with a first turn thoughtseize and see a white devil(no not Dan, cannonist), 2x tinstreet, Taiga, vial. I take the white devil. After that Oath just gets there.
Game two Even after bouncing both his goyfs and getting oath on the table I can't win before he swings for lethal. Things that tap to attack are dumb. Frown Town. Man did it piss me off that Tarm could kill Akroma!
Game Three we have 10 minutes left after Dan's long victorious struggle in game two. I quickly mull to an oath and then thoughtseize scullclamp. I let oath do the rest of the work.
I top 8 due to luck.
My first T8 match is against Ichorid against a great ichorid player who traded for an altered/extended art island. He is also in law school so we had a chat about life while I pooped my pants at the though of playing his stupid deck. Great guy.
He wins game one because that's what his deck does. That is also why I hate that deck. I drive 2 hours and play $25 to sit there wile he autos game one and games 2 and three are all about luck and saturation of sideboard. This is the least fun deck ever. I would rather play against flash. Ichorid is such a cockblock, it's good enough to knock good PLAYERS out of the game but it can never win(first) because of the uphill nature of games two and three, because after a while somethings got to give.
I'm so angry at this decks existence I don't even wanna write about the other games. just know they were won due to poping the grave at the right time.
My death:
I was paired against Joe after he had sat behind me and saw every card in my deck get flipped over. Joe is also about to become a level 3 judge and was relentless with his early dreadnaught. Even after I got oath on board he had enough Bobs and naughts to have it not be relevent no matter what I oathed up. Sad. the play mistake I didn't realiesed until Longo told me after was that I could have taped my orchard puting the token creation on the stack and then misdirected his stifle to it. I suck.
Game two I got there off playing the control role well
Game Three I needed to oath up my second creature but insted I oathed it into my hand when I thirsted EOT. He swung in for lethal. I tried to do the control role again but trickbind is good.
The best part of this tourney was that I got to play against so many cool cats. Magic players are usually jerks and generally unfriendly which is the inspiration for my handle.
My final thoughts are that my deck is bad. The reason why I went with it is because I new the meta would be creature heavy with no combo and no Tezz wanting to play in a all creature+nullrod scene. The deck is still too slow. The only games that I lost, I lost because I needed one more turn or because I needed a brainstorm at the right time(to put back creatures). Even if I did have a tezz insted of an ETW I still wouldn't have seen it, and even if I did things like bob would have just swung into it anyway. Needs more cowbell.
Good luck ELD on the upcoming baby. I wish you guys much health and happiness.
Well I have to get back to study. If questions, just ask. I just wanted to convey my feelings on the deck and I haven't writen a report since ..... ever. BTW if you give me a hard time about how poorly writen this is I wont write another one. This was just a 20 min break from studying that I hope some members of this comunity can enjoy.
