Is Duplicant better than Angel?  Angel can be played at any time to out race DSC and is better when they don't have anything else in play.  Duplicant isn't as good if there is no DSC.

Duplicant is a sideboard card imo.

I tested the build and I'm surprised how many first turn orb or trinispheres I got. From my testing, 9 strips was a bit too much and 7 worked better.

Undiscovered paradise works even better than expected. Sometimes you have a karn on hand that you cant cast and no lands in hand. Then you top deck a mox diamond and get to pitch the undiscovered paradise and replay it again. I also like to pitch a strip, use mox diamond for something like ancestral recall and replay / tap strip. Did I mention ancestral recall is unbelievably cool? One of my matches went like, first turn play mox diamond, play recall, draw into workshop play trinisphere.

i've found another great card that I believe belongs in this deck. It's castable off a workshop and has synergy with mox diamond and mox sapphire. In my testing it was absolutely great.

The card is Wizard Replica. This card has synergy with the whole game plan because you should be able to get your mana denial up quickly. This makes wizard replica a hard counter most of the turn, that is able to get online on turn 1.

Here is my latest build, and its an absolute recking machine.  A full set of SoloMoxen plus 3x Diamond means you're going to have some pretty bad ass first turns.  This build currently has 4x Stax, I know you didn't want to take it that direction but every time I switched them out with something else, jugs, tangle wires, more shaman's, etc., I always wished it was a stax.  Although I have not yet tried Canonist or Duress in the stax slots.  I have a feeling that Canonist is just unnecessary since all the spheres and strips stop storm in their tracks but the Duress would be nice to clear their hand of any counters they have been hoarding to clear the way for a bomb.  This build is a combination of my previous build with some influence from the Mindlock deck posted here

// Mana
7 SoloMoxen
1 Mana Crypt
3 Mox Diamond
4 Mishra's Workshop
1 Tolarian Academy
4 Gemstone Mine
3 Undiscovered Paradise
2 Ghost Quarter
4 Wasteland
1 Strip Mine

// Lock
1 Trinisphere
4 Sphere of Resistance
2 Thorn of Amethest
4 Smokestack
3 Mindlock Orb
3 Crucible of Worlds

// Creatures
3 Goblin Welder
1 Gorilla Shaman
1 Triskelavus
1 Sundering Titan
1 Karn, Silver Golem

// Spells
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Tinker
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor

//Draw
2 Bazaar of Baghdad

I had thought about Wizard Replica as well.  Cursecatcher is another option (mentioned earlier).
I'm even wondering how well a Null Brooch + Uba Mask would work.  Uba puts cards safely out of hand, so the draw Brooch draw back is irrelevant.  Brooch and Uba gives you some hot Welder targets.

i tried cursecatcher but it doesnt counter perms... therefore its not as good. Also tapping one extra mana is so much easier than 2

I found both lavamancer and fastbond to be disappointments. Lavamancer trampled all over crucible. I was left choosing between pinging or land recursion. Fastbond just wasn't as explosive as I wanted it to be. On occasion the bond allowed first turn big bots. Although late game it became a dead card. The sword of fire and ice on the other hand is an entirely different story.
Welders made their way back in to my list. I am now trying to find other ways to integrate key disruption methods. I am leaning toward a u/w/r build. Complete with canonist (if she is sucking, weld her out for either titan or platz) and maybe balance?
...you don't have expensive permanents nor the tech to fool around with welders.
What tech would you recommend with welders now that I am running 2 trikes, a titan and plat angel with 2 bazaars. With crucible, welder, and undiscovered paradise, I feel the bazaars provide that tech I need. They toss to diamond, provide welding targets, and land tossed to bazaar can be played off crucibles. Maybe bump em' up to 3?
