Not too familiar with the names that made it to finals.  Were they from around the area?

I traveled about two and a half hours to this event from Jersey and it was well worth it as is usually the case. The TO puts on a good event and despite what some would call a lackluster turnout still stood behind the prize support. I cant wait for the next one. Darryn thanks again this was a fun time.

@Hagrid: Thanks, I kinda expected the turnout to be...random...we got a lot of locals this time, so that made up for the out of town contingent being low...hopefully, EVERYONE makes the next one and it'll go great.

@rikimaru75: The top 8 was 5 locals vs. three of the guys from NJ. Paul, Max, Rich "Cartman", Griffin, and Joe "Cooter". They hung in there and didn't get completely PWNED by guys who play great, hardcore Vintage. Team Baltimore may end up a force sooner or later!

I'm a little disappointed to see TPS next to Nick Coss. Sad And then losing to Ichorid?

My statement was actually more directed towards the finalists.  Ah well, I guess we'll just have to practice harder for our next tournament.  Once again, it was a fun.  See you around.

Both of the finalists were from New Jersey.  I can speak for everyone who drove down with me in saying that we enjoy these tournaments.  They're casual, fun, and a great excuse to get out of the state on a Saturday.  We'll continue attending and hopefully more and more people will attend in the future.  If you're thinking of attending one of these but need a ride, post on here, I'm sure there are people to carpool with.

Ralph (Hagrid) and Andy both split in the finals.  I got dream crushed by the Ichorid player in the Top 8.  Seriously, what does it take to beat that deck? (My last 3 match losses were ichorid... other then that, I've had two losses in the last 4 tournaments I've played)... I guess it's just my kryptonite.

Thanks for another great event

this is rich herbert and I can say that the event was a blast.  having not played a vintage event in years, I enjoyed myself a lot, and a big THANKS to darren (triple agent) for lending me the cards.
also a big up to every opponent I played, every opponent was cool, not douche bags and made me thankful that I came and played.

I will post a tourney report later, and as of this event I think I will actually try to make my 4th comeback to vintage!

this is to the best of my ability that i remember a week later

4 duress
4 force of will
1 chain of vapor
1 rebuild
1 misdirection
1 grim tutor
1 demonic tutor
1 merchant scroll
1 mystical tutor
1 vampiric tutor
1 imperial seal
1 ancestral recall
1 brainstorm
1 fact or fiction
1 gifts ungiven
1 memory jar
1 mind's desire
1 necropotence
1 ponder
1 time walk
1 timetwister
1 tinker
1 yawgmoth's bargain
1 yawgmoth's will

1 darksteel colossus
1 tendrils of agony

4 dark ritual
2 cabal ritual
1 black lotus
1 lotus petal
1 mana crypt
1 mana vault
1 mox emerald
1 mox jet
1 mox pearl
1 mox ruby
1 mox sapphire
1 sol ring

4 polluted delta
2 island
3 swamp
2 underground sea
1 tolarian academy

sideboard:
2 island
1 swamp
3 tormond's crypt
3 jailer
2 pithing needle
2 hurkyl's recall
2 massacre

i believe this was my list, from what darren told me it is just steve's list from SCG from his primer on TPS

round 1: ed from nj
i realize that he is from out of state after talking to him, so fully expect a  good deck here. problem being, I have no clue what the metagame is anymore Sad
I literally haven't played a game of competive vintage since the 3rd ever SCG VA when I played control slaver with black.
Infact, before the tourney I found out about the tezzeret combo and that grindstone is ACTUALLY a playable card in type one, and some combo mills the whole deck off a 1/3 creature?

So I win the die roll and my opening hand is:

grim tutor
dark ritual
mana crypt
black lotus
demonic tutor
force of will
force of will

And I am on the play?
this wins turn one if you didn't know, and it took me like a full minute to realize this. My opponent mulliganed to six, and I went bonkers. He didn't force of will, so I won.

so I hadn't seen a single card from my opponent and just won on turn one. just to be careful I sideboard in pithing needle for randomness that he might bring in.

game two he plays turn one magus of the moon. awesome. then he follows  up with a turn two trinsiphere. excellent... I lose this game. I did see sword of fire/ice and sphere of resistance these games, so I mentally note this

I bring in hurkylls and keep the needles in the sideboard

the third game goes back and forth for a few turns. at one point in time my opponent has null rod and two sphere of resistance in play. the opponent eventually has a goblin welder in play, but with no good targets to return and a sword of fire/ice. he also then casts chalice at one mana, so for a few turns I am sitting there thinking how to race this welder that is about to pick up a sword and do 5 damage. so I draw mystical and tutor hurkylls up. then my opponent realizes that he can not sword a welder, and I only have to take one a turn.

eventually I set up a broken hand, recall his chalice, two sphere's, sword and some other gooodies and then just go off.

1-0

round 2
i play vs a local that remembers me but I don't remember him. He is playing UG tezzert with thirsts, drains, forces etc

game one, I can go off turn 2 with duress if I draw lotus, sol ring, lotus, ritual, cabal ritual or mana crypt. Well I don't Sad so I insted just build up a hand of 7 good cards with 2 duresses, 2 rituals, bargain, will, tendrills and then draw a cabal ritual. I have lotus, 6 lands and three moxes in play, so I cast ritual which resolves. Ritual again, which resolves. duress, which he counters, duress, which he counters, then I Cast bargain which is forced, and I just cast tendrills to be the death

I board in needles

game two he plays and locks me turn 2 with key/vault

game 3 opponent mulls to 5 and im on the play. I have the turn 2 win with duress backup. Opponent casts lotus, vault, key says go
I win on turn 2 with some complicated math, but eventually I figure out two+two does in fact equal four after I mess up with lotus math by saccing it for blue instead of black

2-0

round 3: ralph from nj

opponent is playing painter/grindstone with key/vault and tezzert

game one I just get smashed and demolished, but I did mull to 5

I side in recall and pithing needle

game two I really don't remember, but I remember him mana crypting himself four times, and casting a mini tendrills

game three I keep a hand of duress, duress, ritual, ritual, delta, mystical, demonic but have no clue how to play this hand

I just lead with delta, pass
opponent plays volcanic and passes. I mystical tutor here, and he thinks about rebing, but doesn't and I tutor another duress.
I cast ritual, and he doesn't counter. I end up stripping his hand, leaving him with a mana crypt in play and a volcanic. I duressed drain, mystical and will leaving him with REB
eventually he draws two thirts and he counters some multiple spells and it becomes a topdeck war, however ralph has the dreaded mana crypt in play. then he HARDCASTS darksteel colossus. swings once, and he has no cards in hand and is on ten life. I've been holding 2 moxes in hand in case i draw tendrills, so I pluck and...

draw ancestral
ancestral into... mox, mox, tendrills. gg

3-0

pretty lucky, but what are you going to do? I held the moxes in case of drawling tendrills, and I know I gave very short descriptions of the match (and if ralph is reading maybe he can fill in people here on details I left out or have mis-reported) but I will point out that in this match I played the games each time to put myself into the best position to win if drawling certain cards. And this happened. magic is a game of chance to a small degree. And different paths of travel would have been furtile, and would have landed me up in losing.

(end tooting of own horn)

the next two rounds I just draw in

t8
I was never in either of these games to be honest. I mulled to 6 gm1 and his permission crushed me

game two I was under trinisphere turn 1 or 2 and never got out of it. he eventually casts slaver with welder in play and I am done

I do again wanna say thanks to all my opponents for not being douches, making the tourney extremely fun and a pleasure to play.
and big props to darren again

Cartman, I think you drew Lotus, Cabal Rit, Tendrils, but that was pretty epic.  I was the opponent who you drew with round 4.

I went 3-0 in the first three rounds, drew round four, and once I was guaranteed a Top 8 spot I played, since both A) I enjoy playing and B) if Ralph and Ed (both 2-2) won their matches, then maybe if I beat my 3-1 opponent then they'd both squeak in.  Of course, Ralph and Ed got paired up.  I played anyway, and lost.  I lost to Ichorid in top 8 after losing game one and mulliganing into oblivion game 2 (seriously, 4 cards including a colossus?  Sad)

My list (by memory for perusal)

4x Polluted Delta
1x Bloodstained Mire
2x Underground Sea
2x Island
2x Swamp
1x Tolarian Academy

1x Black Lotus
1x Mox Sapphire
1x Mox Jet
1x Mox Emerald
1x Mox Ruby
1x Mox Pearl
1x Mana Vault
1x Mana Crypt
1x Sol Ring
1x Lotus Petal

1x Darksteel Colossus

4x Force of Will
4x Duress
1x Misdirection
4x Dark Ritual
2x Cabal Ritual
2x Grim Tutor
1x Demonic Tutor
1x Vampiric Tutor
1x Imperial Seal
1x Mystical Tutor
1x Merchant Scroll
1x Gifts Ungiven
1x Mind's Desire
1x Ancestral Recall
1x Time Walk
1x Timetwister
1x Tinker
1x Brainstorm
1x Ponder
1x Chain of Vapor
1x Rebuild
1x Yawgmoth's Bargain
1x Necropotence
1x Yawgmoth's Will
1x Tendrils of Agony
1x Memory Jar

SB: In shambles

Darryn, thanks again for running a good event.  Hopefully you'll use one of those FOIL DEMONIC TUTORS you got from me towards 2nd place prize support next time.

@rikimaru: there were no new or newish decks or tech, and the turnout was small, so I glossed over lists, but if you want them, I will get to it soon.

@Iron_Chef: sorry, those tutors have found homes already lol. I do have an Alpha BOP lol...I will figure out something nice for the next one, but I am more concerned with getting a good 1st place prize.
