Nice lists, thx for typing them up. One remark: Leviathan has now completely entered the building. Bye, bye Collossus?

Yeah - Inkwell was a house! No one could get rid of it! There was a game against Dan where 3 swings was two slow, I hit him twice and the following turn he was going to go off with a Time Vault - Thankfully I had a Banefire to finish the Job  Very Happy

Excellently run, as usual. Finally got a chance to attend since the last one I did in July.

Thanks to Chris for giving me my only losses on the day in the Swiss and Top 4.

One remark: Leviathan has now completely entered the building. Bye, bye Collossus?

That's what it seems like. Shroud is a big reason, along with it's Islandwalk.

How many other times did Banefire act as a second, uncounterable Time Walk?

Also, why only two Force of Will?
Was it a metagame decision?!

Banefire was really good when I actually casted it (I even used it once to toast an Aven Mindcensor- LOL). I seen it a couple times when I didn't even cast it because the game was already won. It was a nice insurance policy to have in the deck something I could Vamp Tutor for EOT to steal the game. With Tolarian Academy Banefire can be ridiculous.

I only lost 2 games all day and that was in the Top 8 against Dan:

Game 1, I got greedy and he punished me for it.

Game 2, His Tarmos smashed my face; I tinkered my Inkwell in but it was a little too late, The two Lhurgoyf  held off my Inkwell, I drew into an echoing truth swung bounced the Tarmos, and put him at 6. On his turn he Vamp-Tutored for Yawgwill and won with a Time Vault.

I gotta give Dan props, He knows his deck very well and he plays it like a pro. Smile

The 2 "Force of Will" thing was actually a typo or a mistake on my deck list, because I was running 4 of those puppies Smile

I've felt like Goblins has been a really good choice for a while now because of its very strong match-ups against Tez, Stax, Mystic Remora/Meditate, and aggro/hate, but I've never tried a three-color list. I would guess that Earwig Squad only helps the match-ups that are already good, right? Was Extirpate better than the options you would have in a R/g list (Tormod's Crypt, Leyline of the Void, or Relic of Progenitus)? Who beat you to move to the finals, and what happened?

Earwig Squad lets you beat combo and Tez, decks that otherwise can conceivably race you.

Can you post a metagame breakdown, too?  I 'd like to know if I should be at all surprised that half of the top 8 of a Vintage tourney is Vault/Key.

I typically run a R/b list. Though I hadn't played in a vintage tournament in around 8 months, I've been keeping an eye on the metagame at Myriad. It seemed like there was more Stax showing up lately, so I added green for Hooligans and Krosan Grips incase Oath showed up. Earwig Squad does help in the combo and Tezz matchups. It allows me to hurt decks with few win conditions. As for Extirpate, it was there primarily for Dredge but can also be used in other matchups better than Crypt or Relic.

The only matches I lost were to DA. In the 4 games we played, I lost on his turn 2 twice, turn 3 once, and I think turn 5 or 6. I played him in the first round. After that, I beat Stax, burn, BUG fish, and Tezz to make top 8. I won against Fox's aggro deck.

In the top 4 I lost turn 2 in the first game. In the second game I forgot about him bringing in Engineered Plagues and forgot to bring in the Grips. Though, I doubt it would have mattered as he won on turn 5 or 6 with a tinkered Inkwell and Engineered Plague in play.
