Hello everyone,
I thought about a deck, that could be run as a budget deck for a tournament in may.
It have to be budget. I think I will play full-powered, but some teammates of mine can't.
what you think about this?
creature [12] 4 Cursecatcher 4 Dark Confidant 4 Spellstutter Sprite
instant [10] 4 Daze 2 Echoing Truth 4 Force of Will
enchantment [4] 4 Bitterblossom
artifact [12] 4 Chalice of the Void 4 Null Rod 4 Thorn of Amethyst
land [22] 3 Flooded Strand 1 Island 3 Mutavault 3 Polluted Delta 1 Strip Mine 2 Tropical Island 3 Underground Sea 2 Volcanic Island 4 Wasteland
SB: ??
Look forward to discuss this deck.

oh yeah, that looks like a sweet deck. 12 lock-out artifacts, you need that to get your slow clock through. this is actually similar to a deck ive been working on, except i try to abuse vial and standstill. i kind of think with time vault back to working the way its supposed to, null rod is just the better strategy than vial tricks. in place of the rods, i run moxmonkeys. its great fun to hold onto one monkey one cursecatcher with an untapped vial@1. or at least to pretend that your holding both cards still, i think running a full hate package and heavy redundancy is the key to winning with a deck. i feel like you could use more draw. the only thing keeping you off topdeck mode is confidant. i would find a place to slide in a consultation, maybe brainstorm, and of course (but i know, its budget), ancestral and walk. on top of that ninjas are just so good with spellstutter, i would run 2, perhaps in place of 2 blossoms. i assume that your manabase is intended for some funky sideboarding, you dont really need all of the extra duals. i think the increased vulnerability of running so many nonbasics is really not worth the advantage of whipping out random green spells from the side. i would keep everything on two colors, so i can run just a pair of duals, bunch of islands, and a swamp. between black and blue anything can be dealt with, four colors are far too many for a fish deck. i run 6 fetch, 2 sea, 1 volcanic, 1 badland, 4 island. red is in there for monkeys and heretic side. its nice to have badland because i can get both splash colors on one card and just fetch islands otherwise. one other guy you should look at is waterfront bouncer. its nice to have around to show goyf the door turn after turn, and besides you cant do much better in a 2 common card combo than stutter/bouncer. voidmage prodigy

Chalice is also good against tinker, which is also a problem for the deck and Thorns are just soo good in additional. those 12 cards attackes your opponent on three different way but works good togheter. And they just do that better than Gorilla Shaman About the missing draw. you can play a dark confidant and that's enough, or just drop a bitterblossom. It's so good also with the spellstutter. but Ninja is really a thought. but I doesn't saw anything to cut, as I think 4 Bitterblossom are really good for budget. you can jump block Goyfs, prevent for beatdown of bobs etc. but does the "win" reach in this deck? For the sideboard, I do not know how I would like the configuration. Any Ideas?

Looks like a nice idea. Once you establish yourself with the mandenial most bluebased decks will probably have a tough time. I think the main problem is probably not being able to kill your opponent fast enough, thus giving him more time to recover from the manadenial plan. Also there's a lack of first turn plays and if you have to daze on with only one land out it sets you back quite a lot in the early game, so maybe a spell snare or thoughtseize or something would come in handy there.
But I wouldn't really know what to cut, since I'm not really familiar with how the deck actually plays etc.
also for a deck that has to fear tinker/DSC it seems that 2 ET and no CQ whatsoever seems a bit insufficient.
just my thoughts from looking at the list.
Peace Ruven

Spellsnare is nice.
but what's about cabal therapy? yes and I would change Echoing slots to either hurkyl's or main waterfront bouncer.

hmm I dunno. I value echoing very much, especially in the Icho matchup you don't wanna miss them. Additional bounce like waterfront bouncer would be nice tough.
What I wanted to say is just that 2 bounce and no library manipulation is too random. So when you really need them chances are they're not in your hand.
About therapy: Why pick it over duress? Which creature would you wanna sac to it? (I guess thoughtseize is ruled out, cause you play blossom)

Hmm yea, how would you run it? You always play nice fish.dec also on last tournament for therapy i would sac some tokens of bitterblossom... in second main phase, so you can attack and sac for evil On the other side, what would you run if you have to play a budget deck?

ah, tokens, right, I completely forgot about the tokens.
to be honest, I'm not sure how I would run it. Out of personal preference I'd probably cut the chalices and I wouldn't play more than 3 Rods. Then again, I'm not sure if that's the right choice, since I never play either of them. also 3 Daze are enough usually, since you don't have acceleration and the Land drop is quite important in a non-mox deck. Also Bitterblossom looks just plain slow. even with the synergy with the stutter. Also with a confi out and no way to control our draws, you might even reveal yourself to death before you bring down the lifepoints of your opponent.
ermm, I dunno how I would play that deck, to be honest. How did the deck do in testing btw? anything particular that caused trouble or didn't work well together?
I myself am gonna play a budget version of the fish I played last tournament. Budget except for that one recall that is, but that's about it. other options would probably be Elves, Goblins, Sui. which can all be run on a bduget version. (a Budget Goblin made even 2nd on the eurovino last year, assuming the list on deckcheck is correct, so might not be the worst choice)

What about Landstill? Ok, there Drains in there, but those are cheaper than power and the power isn't necessary... 3 Polluted Delta 3 Flooded Strand 4 Island 2 Tropical Island 3 Volcanic Island 4 Mishra´s Factory 4 Wasteland 1 Strip Mine 1 Library of Alexandria 3 Null Rod 1 Ancient Grudge 1 Echoing True 1 Hurkyl´s Recall 4 Fire/Ice 4 tarmogoyf 1 Merchant Scroll 1 Mystical Tutor 1 Fact or Fiction 1 Gifts Ungiven 1 Brainstorm 4 Standstill 4 Mana Drain 4 Force of Will 2 Misdirection 2 Spell Snare That's the Top 4 List from here without power... Or Zoo? 4 aether vial 4 kird ape 4 wild nacatl 4 mogg fanatic 4 skyshroud elite 4 Tarmogoyfs 4 tin street hooligan 4 lightning bolt 2 teeg 2 Ethersworn Canonist 2 path to exile 4 taiga 3 plateau 2 savannah 4 wooded foothills 4 windswept heath 1 Mountain 1 Forest 3 skullclamp I just feel, that Fish with 12 Creatures, of which 8 are counters and 4 are the drawengine, can't beat fast enough to bring the game home. Even if you lock them down, for a turn or 2, there is always Tutor -> Hurkyl's/Rebuild -> Game. To prevent such sheanigans you could maybe include Duress and/or Stifle (more manadenial, less tutor->solution over 2 turns)

I would just like to see a few more basics, probably in the Volcanic Island slot (volcanic island?). Also -a Daze for something like Demonic tutor or Mystical tutor maybe even Cunning Wish an open the board a bit. Otherwise I like it and think you should do fine with it.
Lates, Dr.KnowMaD
ps. Myself, I like the two Echoing Truths but Spell Snare is also very handy.

Just a few things to consider:
Vendilion Clique - Its a faerie, is a sizeable clock, is blue (Force of Will), and has a pseudo Duress effect. Just knowing your opponents hand has often been good enough for me
Chrome Mox- T1 Bblossom or Confidant (or even Thorn) seems pretty dope. I realize how bad they are with Chalice/Null Rod, but maybe you only want 8 out of the 12 artifacts?
Also, I'm pretty sure you want Demonic Tutor and Brainstorm in here (and maybe even Ponder). Their too good to pass up.

@ chrome mox: sure its a playable card in the right deck, but this deck cant afford to cut the rods and chalices. the only way to beat an accelerated environment is to make plays to ban the brokenness. there are so many ways right now to just die to an artifact activation, running the moxes just means that you either arent hosing real moxes enough or you are hosing out your own manabase. lotus and on-color moxen are just too good to skip. somehow it never bothers me to accelerate a rod with a sapphire, but giving myself a duress to do it is just terrible.
also, as i look at the mana curve here, it seems like too often it will go play land, go on the first turn. this is where brainstorm, ponder, consultation and vampiric are amazing, it gives you a setup play first turn to burst out of the gates turn two. i wouldnt run demonic. without acceleration it may as well say 'target opponent takes a turn after this one' you cant really afford to give away the second turn, as that is were this deck really starts moving forward.

I don't really like Thorn in your build...you only have 12 critter to get through.
If I was to play a budget deck, 3 decks comes to my mind: Dredge, Landstill and RGB Hate. With Dredge, you don't need Power to play, you can probably put togheter a playset of Bazaar to play a Tier1 deck?!? Landstill need just a few pieces to be competitive (Ancestrall, Walk, Drains and Sapphire). RGB Hate is a weird deck design to kill a certain metagame it usually runs R,G,B moxes nut it can survive and still work without them (look if you think it can beat the metagame you think you'll be facing (this deck was build by Wagner a friend of mine.)
I'm gonna even provide you some decklist ideas...
(Decklist from mtgquebec.com)
Dredge...Manaless Ichorid
4 Bazaar of Baghdad 4 Chalice of the Void 1 Angel of Despair 1 Cephalid Sage 4 Dryad Arbor 2 Flame-Kin Zealot 4 Golgari Grave-Troll 3 Golgari Thug 4 Ichorid 4 Narcomoeba 4 Stinkweed Imp 4 Street Wraith 4 Bridge from Below 4 Cabal Therapy 3 Dread Return 4 Serum Powder 1 Sundering Titan 3 Unmask 2 Call to the Netherworld
Sideboard: 3 Oxidize 4 Contagion 1 Emerald Charm 3 Bayou 4 Reverent Silence
Briseur de cauchemars (RBG Hate)
4 Duress 2 Thoughtseize 1 Demonic Tutor 1 Vampiric Tutor 1 Demonic Consultation 4 Null Rod 1 Burning Tree Shaman or (whateever you feel free to try...it wasn't that great but did steal some games!) 4 Dark Confidant 2 Extirpate 2 Diabolic Edict 4 Tarmogoyf 1 Red Elemental Blast 4 Pyroblast 3 Tin Street Hooligan 1 Ancient Grudge 2 Bayou 1 Taiga 3 Badlands 2 Wooded Foothills 4 Bloodstained Mire 1 Strip Mine 3 Wasteland 1 Mox Emerald 1 Mox Jet 1 Mox Ruby 1 Black Lotus 1 Swamp 4 Simian Spirit Guide
Sideboard: 3 Yixlid Jailer 2 Planar Void 2 Krosan Grip 4 Pyrostatic Pillar 1 Ancient Grudge 2 Gastly Demise 1 Lightning Bolt
Mattiuzzo-Landstill
1 Ancestral Recall 3 Chain of Vapor 4 Fire / Ice 4 Force of Will 4 Mana Drain 3 Misdirection 4 Stifle 1 Time Walk 4 Standstill 1 Black Lotus 1 Crucible of Worlds 1 Mox Sapphire 4 Null Rod 3 Faerie Conclave 2 Flooded Strand 3 Island 1 Library of Alexandria 4 Mishra's Factory 2 Polluted Delta 1 Steam Vents 1 Strip Mine 4 Volcanic Island 4 Wasteland
Sideboard: 3 Pyroblast 4 Rack and Ruin 2 Red Elemental Blast 2 Threads of Disloyalty 4 Chalice of the Void
Just work the decks to remove the Power...I won't do all the job!

Have anyone idea of what to possible meet in the lower tables at bom3? I will also play a budget deck. Ofcourse I hope to win alot but I will probably not be in the top64. So will there be alot of p9 in the lower tables also? Or do you think it will be fish, rg beats, dredge, fish, rg beats, suicide, fish, fish, elves kinda metagame? Kinda crappy since my deck is designed to play against powerede decks and don't have a good matchup at all against aggro.

Yeah same here five of us going all fully powered, all the bigger tournaments in europe usually are piacenza, paris x 2 were very high powered events i played 20+ rounds vast majority against powered decks unlike M-fest were i played against one powered deck in the semis.

Yeah, I think too that there will be alot people with full powered.
Me & my brother play both full-powered the same deck, and also the good friend of us. the others we know going are also the most full-powered.
That will be funny next weekend.
