ANNOUNCEMENT: MEANDECK OPEN – LEGACY TOURNAMENT
Sunday, April 5, 2009 – Columbus, Ohio

Your requests have been answered!

Grand Prix Chicago is in the history books, but Legacy is stronger than ever, and we want to keep it that way.   Ohio has a thriving Legacy scene, and we want to keep the rivalry between Columbus and Akron/Wadsworth and the Cleveland folks going!     Our competition only makes us stronger, and this tournament series will be one of the best opportunities to prepare for the Legacy Champs at Gencon this summer.

WHAT: LEGACY! Tournament

Swiss + Top 8.

Entry is $15

PRIZES:

CASH!!!
1st Place: 40% of Prize Pool
2nd Place: 20% of Prize Pool
3rd Place: 10% of Prize Pool

The store opens at 11:30 AM. Registration starts at 12:30. Registration will close and the tournament begins at 1PM sharp.

WHERE:

The Soldiery
4256 N. High St.
Columbus, Ohio 43214

ALSO!

These tournaments are for YOU. We want to make them as fun as we possibly can. That means that we want your feedback on how we can make them better.

Because of your feedback, we extend prizes to the full top 8 at the last tournament.  I have been asked to solicit suggestions on how we might do better this time.

In addition, we need feedback as to whether to sanction this or not, and whether to allow proxies or not.   Both issues are open questions at the moment so SPEAK UP!

Also, we tried to set up a side event so that players who had dropped from the main event would have something else to do, but no one was interested. Do you have any suggestions for side events?

Finally, some of you went to Thurman's Cafe afterward and enjoyed the amazingness that is Thurmans (those of who went should report!)  Don't miss on eating this:

Put the address in your GPS so you can get there after the tournament!

Do not miss this event! Bring your friends, bring your cousins, bring your siblings! We proved the skeptics wrong! If you are a Midwesterner, don't miss this event!

Hope you can make it!

Thurman Cafe Report - 2/15/09

I didn't actually get a chance to play in the tournament last time, but I did show up to go to Thurmans.  That's pretty much like winning the tournament anyway.

Round 1 - Becks Beer, 24 oz.

My first round opponent was foreign, playing a strange brew that I was at first unfamiliar with.  A few cards into the match, though, I recognized the matchup as one I recognized well and knew it would be pretty quick.  He had a few surprises, but I kept chugging away and came away with the victory.

Round 2 - Pretzel Bites

Round two, my opponent was salty, but his sidekick was saucy and sweet.  We had a few back and forth moments, but I triumphed in the end, devouring my opponent in two games.  The hardest part of this match was keeping my opponent focused on the games rather than the others who kept trying to get a piece of the action.

Round 3 - French Fries

This is one of the best players at the tournament; playing against him is always a pleasure.  His play is crisp and hot, but I am triumphant without too much trouble.

Round 4 - A1 Burgerr

I think he and French Fries came to the tournament together, so I know he's good.  I think he and French Fries came to the tourney together.  I had to constantly be on my guard for fear that someone else at the table would take out my opponent with a punch to the face, and my stamina (and stomach) were flagging at this point, but my determination kept me in the game long enough to put him away.

In the end I went 4-0 and took home the prize of an awesome dinner.

That is a really awesome T8. I love that it's 8 very distinct decks.

Would it be to the detriment of the deck to add Venser, Shaper Savant?  I see Riptide Laboratory in the list but also notice the anti-synergy with Standstill.  What does Spellstutter Sprite shine against?  I'm imagining Swords to Plowshares and opposing Aether Vials.
