Vintage Rankings

These Vintage Rankings are designed to recognize and encourage participation and success in Vintage Magic tournaments, including sanctioned and non-sanctioned events.

1. Publication of Rankings

(a) An up-to-date player list, in rank order by quantity of points, will be maintained on TheManaDrain.com.

(b) by request, a player's TMD alias and/or team affiliation may be listed alongside their name.

(c) a current list of all events recorded will be maintained on TheManaDrain.com.

2.  Qualifying Events: A Vintage event will qualify for the Vintage Rankings if

(a) it is posted with reasonable advance notice on TheManaDrain.com, preferably at least two weeks in advance of the event, and

(b) the final standings are posted on TheManaDrain.com promptly, preferably within 2 weeks of the event, and

(c) a minimum of 17 players participate, and

(d) the tournament is run according to DCI Guidelines. Tournament organizers may allow the use of proxies as a sole exception to the DCI Guidelines.

3.  Accumulation of Points:

(a) The players who rank highest in each participating event are awarded points based on their final standing. Points are awarded according to the following table:

(b) In cases of a split, points will be divided evenly among the splitting players, rounding down to the nearest integer.

Comment: In accordance with DCI rules governing Bribery, point splits made in exchange for prize splits, or vice versa, are not allowed.  Results based on such an exchange will be excluded from the Rankings.


4. Tie Breakers:

When there is a tie in base points, the following tie breaking procedure will be applied until there is a winner

1) The most points from a single event
2) The number of 1st place finishes
3) The number of 2nd place finishes
4) The number of 3rd place finishes
5) The number of 4th place finishes
6) The number of 5th place finishes
7) The number of 6th place finishes
8) The number of 7th place finishes
9) The number of 8th place finishes
10) The number of 9th place finishes
11) The number of 10th place finishes
12) The number of 11th place finishes
13) The number of 12th place finishes
14) The number of 13th place finishes
15) The number of 14th place finishes
16) The number of 15th place finishes
17) The number of 16th place finishes
18) The number of events in which points were received
19) The number of events attended

4.  Rankings Updates: The rankings will be updated each month, including the results from events taking place beginning January 1st of the current year. Rankings results from each month will be posted in addition to an update of the cumulative rankings. Rankings will reset each year.

5.  Designation of Champion:  The individual currently holding the highest ranking will be designated the "Reigning TMD Vintage Champion."  The player holding the highest ranking at the end of a given calendar year will be permanently awarded the title "TMD Vintage Champion" of that year.

The Vintage Rankings Committee has addressed all the issues we have been made aware of to the Vintage Rankings System.  The guidelines are now as close to DCI guidelines as possible, giving TO's the ability to run events exactly as they would for sanctioned play.  We've added a comprehensive tiebreaker system, which puts a high value on achievement in large events while still encouraging regular participation.  Finally, we made provisions for better communication and service to the community.  These include a posting of all of events currently included in the Rankings, as well as adjusting the announcement and reporting guidelines. The decreased lag time of reporting events means so we won't have to wait 30 days to post final standings for each month. Prizes will now be awarded on the middle of each month. 

The two most exciting improvements are new sponsorship, and the creation of a dedicated support site for the Vintage Rankings.  I am currently working with tournament organizers, artists and other parties interested in promoting and supporting Vintage.  We'll be posting additional sponsors as they join up.  The creation of VintageRankings.com will allow people to have easy and immediate access to the latest information regarding the Vintage Ranking System.  We will be linking to our sponsors' sites, so please be sure to visit the blog, as well as the people who are providing the prize support to make the Vintage Rankings so exciting!

Myriad Games is proud to announce that we'll be providing prizes for the Vintage Rankings throughout 2009!

Prizes will be awarded each month and can be redeemed within three months of the associated Vintage Rankings update at Myriad Games in Salem, NH or via MyriadGames.com. Prizes will be awarded as follows.

Random Player $20 Myriad Money
Random Tournament Organizer - $20 Myriad Money

1st and 2nd place prizes will be awarded to the top players in the Vintage Rankings each month.
Random Player prize will be awarded to one player each month, excluding the current 1st and 2nd place winners. Players will receive one entry for each time they play in an event that month.
Random Tournament Organizer prize will be awarded to one tournament organizer who hosted an event that month, excluding events hosted by Myriad Games.

Myriad Games is happy to pledge our support for the entire 2009 Vintage Rankings season, with a total of $1200 in Myriad Money awarded throughout the year.
