Hi,

I am completely new to vintage - I only play standard. But I want to learn, so I am gonna proxy up some decks and playtest them.

Can someone tell me what the current top 8 performing decks are in vintage? Maybe provide some links discussing them.

Thanks guys.

Hi There!

Welcome to the Mana Drain!   If you're just getting into Vintage or exploring it deeper, I would really like to recoment this article:

http://www.starcitygames.com/magic/vintage/16958_So_Many_Insane_Plays_The_2009_Players_Guide_to_Vintage.html

This will give you all the current top decks as well as some budget options if you're looking for an entry point.

Good luck! Smile

Peace,

www.morphling.de keeps a pretty good list of top 8 decklists so that is a good source.

Hiya, and welcome to vintage! Since people are offering sites I usually look at www.deckcheck.net for ideas for decks or even just to know what is currently winning in the vintage community. You are off to a good start considering you have actually played another format before, just don't forget that vintage and standard are really really different, if you feel brave and make you own deck and don't know if it is good enough or even just want other people to take a look at it you should post it here, if not I think there is nothing wrong with net decking until you can get a good feel for the format and the confidence to build something on your own. Depending on where you live this is also a great resource for looking at up and comming tournaments, though it really depends on what vintage cards you have or can get a hold of. If you plan on going to a tournament that I am at if I have any cards you need I have no issue with lending them to you  Very Happy. Good luck!!! And welcome to vintage.

All of you thanks so much for the welcome, words of assistance and encouragement!

I will proxy up a few decks to play from the above sites to get a feel for the format and then let you all know how I get on!

Looking forward to it!

I'd say some of the best decks right now are

Tezzeret/Time Vault
BANT Fish
TPS (The Perfect Storm)
Oath of Druids (Suprisingly decent against Tezz and other decks)
Stax
And there's always decks like Bazaar that really rely mostly on themselfves and have no super good or super bad matchups

If you have the time for it, i would test against:

Tez
TPS
Ad nauseam (ANT)
Ichorid
Stax
Workshop aggro
Selkie-fish
Oath

And if you don't have the time for all that, start with:
Tez
Selkie-fish (BUG fish could also be used, i just think selkie is stronger, but test against whatever you think people are going to play! Smile)
TPS
Ichorid
Stax or workshop aggro

I'd also sugest starting your tests with "easier" decks like fish, oath and ANT. They play similar to their legacy counterparts (except for Oath, but it's still a control/combo deck).

Then you could give the rest a try.

I'm pretty new to vintage too and started this way. It was good for me.

Now I'm learning how to play TPS. It's been a slow process, but totaly worth it!
