hi. i am new to vintage experience, and to this forum as well. i have built this deck but it isn't "good enough". it has got many control cards, but it takes too much to start. and, since i don't use proxies and i have only 1 mox diamond and  sol ring in it, i cannot trust many mana accelerators. i also tried to take in mana vault, but it wasn't such a success. i am a newbie to this type of game, and if you are so kind to help me i'll appreciate it a lllot. here's the deck list:

4 duress
3 extirpate
4 swords to plowshares
3 wrath of god
4 sense's divining top
3 phyrexian arena
4 smokestack
3 crucible of worlds
balance
vampiric tutor
demonic tutor
1 enlightened tutor
sol ring
2 nether spirit
2 tombstalker

4 rishadan port
1 strip mine
4 scrubland
4 godless shrine
5 swamp
3 plains
1 mox diamond

i am considering the possibility of using tangle wire to keep my opponent busy and reach turn 4 or 5 to bring down the combo's cards, and in the meanwhile using duress, extirpate, swords and balance to control the game. advices are welcome. bye ty

What kind of decks do you typically play against?

i haven't started making tournaments, so until now i've benn playing with some friends of mine who have several decks: stax, reanimator, goblin, white weenie, r/g aggro... in these  couple of days i have been reading a lot of posts in this forum, and i had no idea of how vintage was like and of whic decks are played. indeed i said i'm a noob to vintage serious experience.

In tournament scenes the decks typically played are: G/W Fish, BUG Fish, Stax/Shop (Red Aggro, B/R, etc), Tezzeret (Different Variants), Ichorid, Painter Servant/Grindstone, Oath of Druids... I think I covered a good chunk.

Your deck that you posted isn't really a "Combo" deck. It is more along the lines of a prison deck.

How has it performed so far? What are some cards you'd think about taking out that aren't useful?

Edit: Also, does anyone in your area use Power?

yeah, you're right: prison is more appropriate. my problem is finding an answer to your question: wich cards should i get off my deck? using the deck, i have noticed 2 big problems: first of all, is that i'm in serious trouble against fast creature-decks, e.g. goblin deck. that's why i have 3 wraths of god, 4 swords and balance. so, decks playing quickly a bunch of creatures are a serious problem. second trouble : decks playing a lot of spells; i only have duress to prevent spells and extirpate to prevent their 2nd casting. so, for example, when i play against stax i always get submerged by spells, because my only duresses and extirpates aren't enough. these 2 troubles make me wanna try using cards like orim's chant and tangle wire, to slow down those cascades of creatures and those massive spells casting. but i really don't know how to empty slots for those cards...

Have you thought about switching away from White?

I'd take a look at some decks like G/W (Also BGW) with Quasli Pridemages, Gaddock Teegs, Null Rods, etc

Also, BUG Fish is pretty good.

Do you own tarmogoyfs? You could always try a B/G build instead of B/W.

edit: seeing as a lot of the field is aggro.. what about maybe combo? you could maybe play Ad Nauseum Tendrils?

BUw ANT - Something along these lines... not perfect...
-------------
3 Underground Sea
2 Scrubland
5 Fetchland
1 Swamp
2 Island
1 Tolarian Academy

2 Mox Diamond
3 Chrome Mox
Do you own another Mox Diamond or any Chrome Moxen?
1 Mana Vault
1 Mana Crypt (If can get one)
1 Sol Ring
1 Lion's Eye Diamond

1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Demonic Tutor
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Mystical Tutor
3-4 Ad Nauseum
2-3 Tendrils of Agony
1 Brainstorm
1 Ponder
1 Demonic Consultation

4 Dark Ritual
4 Cabal Ritual

1 Necropotence

4 Duress
3 Orim's Chant
2 Chain of Vapor
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Repeal

For your decklist, I'd maybe look into stuff that will prevent their creatures from attacking until you can build up, but they may have answers....

Windborn Muse is pretty good.

I'd maybe play Exalted Angel (give you a flying threat).

Look at Angel Staxx in Legacy, you can tailor it to Vintage.

Mainboard:
4 Flagstones of Trokair
4 Wasteland
1 Stripmine
2 Ancient Tomb
3 City of Traitors
7 Plains
2 Horizon Canopy
4 Mox Diamond
3 Exalted Angel
3 Magus of the Tabernacle
1 Trinisphere
4 Smokestack
4 Chalice of the Void
3 Crucible of Worlds
4 Ghostly Prison
3 Suppression Field
4 Armageddon
4 whatever Aven Mindscensor, STP, Sensei's Divining Top who knows...

# 60

Sideboard:
4 Jötun Grunt
2 Pulse of the Fields
3 Disenchant
3 Pithing Needle
3 Rule of Law

just a thought.

I tailored it to Vintage... the deck usually runs multiple Trinispheres, but those are kind of Restricted Wink
