This is my take on enlightened tutor control. The other guy went the enchantress route and I went the "Yes I love when I play magic with myself" route and since they are very different decks I made a new thread.
Here is the intial go Control :18 1 Balance 1 Energy Flux 4 Leyline of the void 4 Mystic Remora 3 null rod 3 back to basics 2 Engineered Plague
Search / Draw : 13 4 enlightened tutor 1 demonic tutor 1 vampiric tutor 1 Brainstorm 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Ponder 1 yawgmoths Will 1 time walk 1 Tinker 2 Ior Ruin expedition
Protection : 5 4 force of will 1 misdirection
Win : 2 1 Helm of obedience 1 Sphinx of the steel wind
Mana : 21 1 mox jet 1 mox pearl 1 mox sapphire 1 lotus petal 1 mana crypt 1 sol ring 1 black lotus 3 island 2 plains 2 swamp 4 flooded strand 3 polluted delta
After a few games I noticed I was getting to a point where I would have multiples of cards that I didn't need multiples of. I also noticed I wasn't really winning fast enough. I was able to gain control for about the first six turns then afterward I usually just got blown out. With that in mind,I figured I would need either more card selection, better card selection, more draw, and/or more win conditions. Also Ior ruin expedition really wasn’t cutting it. Using those ideas I came up with this list
Control :17 1 Balance 1 Energy Flux 1 arcane laboratory 3 Mystic Remora 4 Leyline of the void
3 null rod 2 back to basics 2 Engineered Plague
Search / Draw : 13 3 enlightened tutor 1 demonic tutor 1 vampiric tutor 1 imperial seal 1 Brainstorm 1 Ancestral Recall 1 Ponder 1 yawgmoths Will 1 time walk 1 Tinker 1 mystical tutor
Protection : 6 4 force of will 2 misdirection
Win : 3 1 Helm of obedience 1 tezzeret the seeker 1 nullstone gargoyle
Mana : 21 1 mox jet 1 mox pearl 1 mox sapphire 1 lotus petal 1 mana crypt 1 sol ring 1 black lotus 3 island 2 plains 2 swamp 4 flooded strand 3 polluted delta
Card choices: The original conception was to use an enlightened tutor toolbox as a way to get key cards that are only good in certain matches while at the same time having blanket effects that are pretty much good against everything. The blanket effects I chose were Mystic Remora and Leyline of the void. As it currently stands, I have been facing a lot of Stax, Steel City, and Ichorid decks as of lately, so Leyline was included which also has synergy with the helm. Mystic remora is used in this deck to tie up the early game and make it so the opponent doesn’t really want to play unnessesary moxes or “go off”. This is to buy time to drop a harder lock piece for the deck to build with. In general, I usually keep the remora around for 1-3 turns depending on my plays. Energy flux was included because its good against anything shop based and it also has applications in the painters servant (if you happen to face it….) matchup. Null rod + Back to Basics – These are here for to stop them from playing spells. Right now with shops, bazzars, and the 3-5 color blue decks floating around these just seemed natural. Not to mention that they are generally good against most decks. Engineered plague- This card honestly can hurt a lot of the decks in the format, you can name goblin (welder), wizard (Bob, clique), Horror (ichorid), Illusion (ichorid), spirit (oath). It also sures up random tribal matches like elves, goblins, and faeries. If you think about it, it is basicly a continous darkblast for their creatures Arcane Lab- It’s to help the storm matchup if you need it as well as provide a hard lock in the form of nullstone + lab.
Yawgmoths will- so far I have only cast will to get a quick advantage (1-3 cards from yard usually a land + 2 spells) I think that with the way that this deck has been playing, that’s all you’re really going to want to do with it. Balance - this card is amazing and I have considered running a few balancing acts but since they were double white and cost four mana I opted not to.
The rest of the cards are pretty much self explanatory. If you don’t know why Ancestral, walk, ponder, brainstorm, FoW, Miss D, and the mana sources are in my deck then you can just hit backspace on your browser because I don’t even want you reading my post let alone giving your input.
