Heya, This was spoiled today as well: Life gain is rare in Vintage, but for you can survive a Tendrils blast. Is there anything else that works with this?

I don't really see how this is more than marginally better than healing salve besides the fact that its black instead of white.
What about that rogue deck i've seen a couple of years ago? With Skyshroud Cutter, False Cure, etc.

Combos with Fiery Justice, you just need + at sorcery speed!

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.
Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops. I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Wizards is really pushing the Sanguine Bond deck....
But really I can't imagine this is better than Mindbreak trap if you want to use it once Tendrils is going off, or even Angel's Grace would be the better response to the lethal Tendrils copy and that's pretty much unplayable.

Except that Angel's Grace does a big nothing against Tendril, you will still die on your upkeep as SBE are checked.

That's what I'm saying - you'll still probably die anyway.

That's what I'm saying - you'll die on your upkeep with this too most likely.
How? If you survive the Tendrils, how would you die on your upkeep?

I misspoke, I meant you will most likely still die to Tendrils. This assumes they storm just enough to kill you. That does happen of course but the times when they make 3 or more extra copies happens more in my experience. Also gaining 5 and having them lose 5 just doesn't seem as strong as Stifling, Mindbreaking or preventing the combo from happening in the first place (Trinisphere, Canonist).

Most of my experiences against Grim long and Ad Nauseum were that they get themselves pretty low through the use of tutors, necro, bargain, and fetches. Them taking 5 after they just did their first tendrils to gain 2 life has the possibility to kill them if they are at 3 life or less

So does Lightning Bolt, yet it's still a horrible card against combo. For B, Duress and Thoughtseize are both way better against combo than Needlebite, because they actually disrupt your opponent (and of course they are actually useful against other decks as well).

We have rather cyclic discussion, and I fully believe that someone so inclined could create a rather accurate computer program which could do a fine job impersonating any of us.

I would rather have a Mindbreak Trap that gets played for 0.

This would be better than Mindbreak Trap only when you have B open that you don't need, and either: i. Your Tendrils-casting opponent is at 3 or less life, so he dies after the first copy resolves and you put this on the stack; or ii. Your tendrils-casting opponent is casting Tendrils with storm of 2, in which case you would net benefit from this over Mindbreak Trap, and couldn't cast the Trap anyway. In the vast majority of cases, this is worse than Mindbreak Trap, however.
