Given that a kicked Rage states that the damage cannot be prevented or redirected, am I correct in ruling that a player cannot cast rage with kicker at an opponent and use it to damage a planeswalker that opponent controls? (came up in a recent EDH with Nicol Bolas and a very desparate mono red pilot who I ruled against).

Quote
Urza's Rage {2R} |Instant| Kicker 8R / Urza's Rage can't be countered by spells or abilities. / Urza's Rage deals 3 damage to target creature or player. If Urza's Rage was kicked, instead it deals 10 damage to that creature or player and the damage can't be prevented.

Urza's Rage doesn't mention anything about being unable to redirect the damage.

Wow. Ok, the card was misread to me (I was across the room at the time) and no one pointed that out. Wow.

Just out of interest, if it contained the text "can't be redirected", I would have been correct, right?

No more rulings from me without looking at the card!

... ><; what happens when such an incorrect ruling made? Can a player appeal on DCI.com and maybe negate the point loss on his DCI rating at least?

this was not sanctioned! I'm just a rules advisor and not ready to judge anything greater than what this was: a very casual, for fun type thing.

There are no cards that use "redirect" as wording, save one Unglued. So, unless you get a clear example, your question is void.

If a player believes a ruling issued by a judge is wrong, he may appeal to the head judge.  Whatever the head judge says is final.  The DCI will not negate a match because a judge made a wrong ruling.  In very extreme cases (very, very, very extreme), the DCI could nullify a tournament due to something the head judge or tournament organizer did.  This would not happen due to an incorrect ruling though (and isn't a topic of discussion to pursue in this forum, so don't ask).

I could swear there were some old cards printed with "redirected".  Gatherer returns only the Unglued card, like you said, so they must all have Oracle updates (which Gatherer searches on).  Lava Burst for instance.

Lava Burst, as printed, did use the word "redirect."  The wording on the card has changed, but still functions the same.  This isn't applicable to the original question because Lava Burst's anti-prevention clause applies only to damage to creatures.
