We only had 27 players with a lot of the regulars not showing up, guys like Duncan, Mantis, LennoxLewis86 (who should learn how to set an alarm clock) but overall the meta was pretty diverse. On an interesting note there were a total of 7 Storm decks (2 ANT, 2 TPS, 3 Drain Tendrils / European Storm)  With ANT winning this event and TDV IX it seems like the current deck to beat. Another observation is that Storm decks in general have been on the rise in the Netherlands and straight up Tezz is at an all out Low with decks like Selkie, BUG, ANT, TPS, Stax, Oath making up for most of the meta.

The top 8 standings:
1 van de Veen, Steffen 18 (ANT)
2 Martinez, David 17 (Madness)
3 Molle, Niels 13 (ANT)
4 Reynders, Peter 13 (Stax) (Punki on TMD)
5 Nuyten, Martin 13 (TPS) (Art ov War on TMD)
6 Ruiterkamp, Arjen 11 (Oath)
7 Boudewijn, Bart 10 (Mana Ichorid)
8 Bos, Arjan 10 (The European Storm) (Zieby on TMD)

Top8 playoffs:
Steffen v.d Veen wins vs Peter Reynders
Niels Molle wins vs Bart Boudewijn
David Martinez wins vs Arjan Bos
Martin Nuyten wins vs Arjan Ruiterkamp

Top4:
David wins vs Martin
Steffen wins vs Niels

Finals:
Steffen wins vs David.

Congratulations Steffen for becoming the 2009 Dutch Vintage Champion!!

Holy hell, Steffen is on a tear lately.

Sorry I couldnt make it, I had to play a suboptimal deck due to no proxies + the long drive + Duncan couldnt come + partying till 4.30 with lots of alcohol involved made it a no go for me.

Yeah, I had the same problem. Too much drinking till 5.00 made me sleep through my alarm. The stupid thing is, I was drinking at home with my girlfriend and I really planned to go. Together we drank two bottles of wine and some beer.

I suck

Steffen definitely deserves the title as he's won 2 TDV's and came in second at another. He's been on a tear in the Vintage community winning or top 8ting most events in the past year.

@Mantis, LennoxLewis,
You both suck......

@Zeus-Online
From looking at what he played I think It was a similar list compared with the one he made the top 8 with during TDV VII back in April.

@Robrecht,
I hope we'll be able to get them up very soon, seeing as the person that has them is going to Worlds it could be after that. I hope he'll find the time to post them this week though.

@Dr. Evil (Steffen right?).
Like I said it was "similar" as I don't have the exact list ( I think he had Forbids as well) I was just referring to an older list.

@Punki,
I've seen that Hasselt Stax list in action and it was pretty damn sweet, I'd be very interested in reading just some overall findings although you didn't take any notes. Great performance again !

And a tough day it was Smile

I was quite happy with the deck, shame I didn't performed better with it ( Sad ), but I lack the experience with Stax-engines that you have with them.

P.S.: Congrats Wink !

How about congratulations to you, Marius?

I heard that designing half the decks in the top 8 says something.  That's an awesome feat that you can't just get from playing your deck.

Great job...

@Prospero,
Thanks man, I was indeed involved with or created almost half the decks that made top 8.

@Zieby,
Great looking list Wink I hope you'll find the time to chime in on the European Storm thread with this list and give some information about your choices to the TMD masses.

Congratulations to all!

Amazing looking lists so far...

Punki, what were your matchups + some general thoughts on the deck? How were the Goblin Bombardments? I see you cut a Wasteland for an extra Gemstone Mine, how did that work for you?
You've been on an amazing streak upwards! Top 8-ing every tournement you play in, n'importe le format! Congratulations!
I seem to be going the other way... Smile

Can't wait for the other lists and some thoughts on the matchups + decklist.

Here is the list that I (Steffen) played.

1 Black Lotus
4 Chrome Mox
1 Lotus Petal
1 Mana Crypt
1 Mana Vault
1 Mox Jet
1 Mox Sapphire
1 Sol Ring
4 Ad Nauseam
3 Cabal Ritual
4 Dark Ritual
1 Demonic Consultation
1 Demonic Tutor
4 Duress
1 Necropotence
3 Tendrils of Agony
1 Thoughtseize
1 Vampiric Tutor
1 Yawgmoth's Will
1 Ancestral Recall
1 Brainstorm
3 Chain of Vapor
1 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Merchant Scroll
1 Mystical Tutor
4 Pact of Negation
1 Ponder

Lands (12):
1 Bayou
1 Bloodstained Mire
1 Island
4 Polluted Delta
2 Swamp
3 Underground Sea

SB:
1 Engineered Explosives
2 Extirpate
2 Hurkyl's Recall
1 Massacre
2 Tormod's Crypt
4 Xantid Swarm
2 Yixlid Jailer
1 Brainfreeze

Don't be fooled by the deck recent great (dutch) performances, as it is to suicidal for any sane person to pilot it, even I lost it sometimes due to nearly or fully killing myself on 3 different occasions. (flipping multiple ad nauseums during an ad nauseum can be a bitch, as well as demonic consultation) but that is just "het risico van het vak" as we say in Holland.

My ubernutz addition to the sideboard of this deck that I kinda stole form Robert Maffei (in dutch his name is translated in something like "Weird Egg", wich entirely justificies this theft) was Brainfreeze, which I added between my second and third prophetic dream, mainly against some cowardly sideboarding attempts. (extirpate, jester's cap, sadistic sacrement, cranial extraction and such) it was also nice to improve other combo matchups (more kills equals more fun) as well as the mirror since the pact of negations aren't that great when you are playing solitaire.

I can't really advice anyone to play this unguided rocket.

Here: I dare you,
http://www.deckcheck.net/deck.php?id=24718
Use sample hand with this similair deck in the bottem to generate a sample hand, after a few tries you'll will notice very quickly that most hands arent' that great to start with at all, let alone allow you a turn 1 or 2 kill. Unless of course your name is Mark (Thomas Hendrix) and you can ignore al statistics.

@ Dr Evil:
Congratulations for your performance with the deck! And mad props for citating me (even if the name is Roberto).

I'm wondering tough, if you tested any different configuration and reverted back to that list based on metagame and overall performances, or just sticked conservatively to it.
For example, I'm always shifting the protection package (Pact/Thoughtseize/Spellpierce) and have long since abandoned Xantid Swarm (I need the sb space to fight much worst mus like 9spheres).

Also, is it possible to have a report? How was the lone BFreeze?

Still Gratz,
Roberto "weird egg" Maffei  Very Happy

PS: hope to see some Dutch to Worlds this weekend!!

No, didn't really thought that thru, the swarms were a bit disappointing, about the war against stax/9spheres it is kinda  impossible not to feel like France no mather how many sideboard cards/soldiers you've got available (no offence).  2 buddies of mine are really fond of this deck and I have some kind of secret agenda (man I love those 2 words) or checklist if you will, with Ad Nauseum storm as one of the only 3 decks that I never played on a vintage tournament (the other 2 are dredge an tropical storm, which kinda sucks without 4 gushes is guess) so i decided to give it a shot. The Brainfreeze was nice (2 or 3 KO's that were not possible without them), even though I never fell victim to extirpate, jcap or sadistic sacrement. I don't really do reports because I believe they bring bad luck, or because I am way to lazy to take any notes, you decide.

Now that's a really cool name: Weird Egg!  Razz

I played one copy of Brain Freeze in Horden Tendrils a few time ago, mainly because I needed an additional blue card for FoW, but the card had a lot more applications besides being an additional kill condition and a blue card to pitch.

Can't wait to see the madness list. Put them up soon, Marius!

Hope to see you all on the next big tournament (Hanau, Germany).

It's very interesting to me that we have:

4 Storm decks (2x Ant, 1x TPS, 1x European Storm)
1 Ichorid
1 Stax
1 Oath
1 Madness

In this top 8. Seeing as most of the list (except the madness one) are fully powered and I faced nothing but fully powered decks the lack of a Mana Drain deck in the top 8 is surprising, they were in the field I know for sure. Looking at this event and TDV IX It seems that the Dutch meta game has taken a turn away from TV/key with only 2 out of the 8 decks in this top 8 actually running it. Same was true for TDV IX were only 2 TV/Key decks made the top 8 in a full field compared to this event (this event had 27 and TDV had 39) it's a sharp contrast with the meta games you guys are seeing. Just some food for thought....

Here are the top 8 Decklists (only numbers 1-2 are in order)
