Player A: "I'm playing a blue-based control deck!" Player B: "I'm playing a combo deck with a ton of maindeck REBS!" Player A: "Shit."
I can't imagine Painter having trouble with The Deck aside from a heavily metagamed version incorporating Gaea's Blessing, Chalice, and more.

Exactly. In testing, my Mono Red Painter either stalls by color screwing Tezzeret or enganging in counter wars against Tezzeret. Not to mention that Lightning Bolts and Magma Jet kills Bob and Tezzeret... Maindeck Ingot Chewer acts as a Stone Rain on the Moxen or Time Vault early game too. Then there is Gorilla Shaman... yeah. Cannot stop Tezzeret's brokeness sometimes though. But then, that was just testing. Btw www.dictionary.comGrind (verb) 1. to wear, smooth, or sharpen by abrasion or friction 2. to reduce to fine particles, as by pounding or crushing; bray, triturate, or pulverize. 3. to oppress, torment, or crush btw, I have more than 1 build for painter... the mainstream one is just too predictable and feels too much like Tezz.

The 2x main deck ancient grudges are a little hard to deal with. When you mill ancient grudge over they can respond to the grind trigger and pop your painter. Then they're left with a pretty loaded yard so it can take some finagling.

Grindstone is not Brain Freeze because it is one whole ability on the stack. Not a bunch of individual spells/abilities. Its the same reason why you cannot Lightning Bolt a person at 8 life After he flips the Force of Will but before he puts it into his hand. And its the same reason that you cannot respond to a person drawing 2 cards from Ancestral Recall and do something before he draws the 3rd. So yes they can kill your Painter. But only once you nuke their library.

The difference between Brainfreeze (storm) and Grindstone is that Brainfreeze gets "copied" for each cast spell that turn. Grindstone repeats the process (string) if both cards share 1 color. This means that a Gaea's Blessing stuck in a Grindstone will get milled untilll the deck is in the graveyard, if you then T-Crypt the graveyard the Blessing will get removed before it resolves.
This decision took place in my match versus the Imperial Painter, after that I sided the Blessings out.
Bolt Painter, as a reaction Grind the deck and then T-Crypt it while the deck is on the stack on its way to the grave. Then the Painter dies.

Actually I think Blessing does resolve. Only that when it resolves, their entire graveyard has already been Nuked.

I was convinced that it grinds you for two then if they share a color another grind continues. Well, that would have made my day a lot easier. Never the less, ancient grudge is still a 2x kill you combo pieces, and if they're hitting your stone and not painter, its non-blue. As for the blessing thing, I was aware of that, but still think extirpate does more stuff more of the time, and has split second. The only down side is you can’t fetch it with trinket mage. I've toyed with have them both in, but they both do so little against ichorid (less than land->mox->jailer). I opted for the slightly better extirpate and switching game plans to “blow up your oath and attack you.”
