Liquidmetal Coating + Karn + Planeswalkers + Combat

Given the board state:

Player 1:
Karn, Silver Golem, Liquidmetal Coating, Jace Beleren with 3 loyalty counters, 1 available mana

Player 2:
1/1 Vanilla creature.


Player 2 declares an attack on player 1 and swings with his 1/1 Vanilla creature.
If player 1 uses liquidmetal coating on jace beleren, activates karn to animate jace, and blocks the 1/1 Vanilla creatures with Jace Beleren, does jace lose loyalty counters?

My guess would be yes since damage dealt to planeswalkers results in lost loyalty counters.

So after all is said and done, Jace would have defeated the 1/1 creature and have 2 counters.
