Would this card be broken?

Here's a card I thought of last night.  I can't decide if it would be totally broken or not:

Spell Ward

Instant
Counter target spell.  Spell Ward cannot be cast during an opponent's turn.

Ok seriously, yes it would. I's want 16 right away so I could put them in decks. Combo wet dream.

I don't think it would be that broken, Duress already has a similar role, for pure combo, there is Pact of Negation.

This is basically a dead card against non control deck, at least Duress can grab a piece of hate.

It would be good, may be played as a sideboard card, but it's not super duper broken.

This card exists.  Dispel is functionally identical:

Dispel:  U Instant -  Counter target instant spell. 

With the exception of the rare flash creature, dispel counters anything an opponent could play on your turn.  It is actually a little better than Spell Ward because it can also counter instants on your opponent's turn.

It isn't broken, although it does see some play.  I think duress and thoughtseize are better in combo.

Well, there you have it Dispel is pretty much a lot better than your new spell. Killane, I suggest you go buy 16 Dispel.
