N.Y.S.E. XVIII is in the books and David Ata is your champion!

The Complete Metagame Breakdown:

Mana Drains:

Landstill: 4
East Coast Wins: 1
Snapcaster Control: 2

Workshops:

Magus Shops: 2
Kuldotha Combo: 2
Nouveau Espresso: 2
Phyrexian Shops: 1
Cat Stax: 1

Null Rods:

Noble Fish: 1

Rituals:

TPS: 1

Bazaars:

Euro Madness: 1
Worldgorger/Servant Combo: 1

The turnout wasn’t great, but it wasn’t that bad either.  We had a PTQ, bad weather and a competing Vintage event in Pennsylvania.  Add it all up and you get 19 players for the event.  If none of those conflicts existed, I’m sure that we’d have been well over 30.

While we were lacking many of our regulars, I was surprised that Dredge didn’t even show up to the tournament.  Really, this tournament broke down to two strategies: blue vs. Workshops.  Given the success of the blue decks on the day, it’s tough to call this as anything but a victory for the Force of Will pillar.

Top Eight Pairings and Results:

Paul Mastriano vs. Sean Higgins – Mastriano wins
Ray Robillard vs. JP Kohler – Robillard wins
David Ata vs. Dan Sollazzo – Ata wins
Scott Hughes vs. Brian Ritter – Hughes wins

Top Four Pairings and Results:

David Ata vs. Paul Mastriano – Ata wins
Ray Robillard vs. Scott Hughes – Robillard wins

Finals:

David Ata vs. Ray Robillard – Ata wins

Congratulations to David Ata, Ray Robillard and all of my top eight competitors!

Can't believe that the new boogeyman is Landstill when it was Dredge just a few weeks ago...
I'd write an article about how Vintage is to slow and landstill decks are near 90% winners of games 1 (and don't have to play games 2-3 because of time constraints) then I'd claim it would never win a huge tournament (and obviously be wrong)... sadly I already submitted my article to ChannelFireball for this week...

All kidding aside, having a Landstill only finals is hilarious to see.... how long did that match take to finish? If it's under 4 hours I'd be surprised.

Luckily dredge is the formats boogy man and keeps players from.... wait a minute there wasn't even a single dredge player attending?

Interesting top 8, I think this really pushes Spell Snare towards being a possible main deck option. Dredge is often hit or miss in terms of being played in the NJ/NY/PA area, most of the time the field is prepared for it....

OMG I need to go write an article on how warping and unfun Landstill is to play against.

Meandeck Landstill? LOL! Only a matter of time...

Does this mean we're going to have a debate as to whether Paul Mastriano should be restricted in his number of tournament appearances or not? Can't wait to see that article: "Is Paul Mastriano Too Overpowered For Vintage?"

P.S. Sorry for the bad joke there.....But it just made me laugh too much to not post it.
