Today at blue bell there were 32 players to battle for a sapphire and I played my good ol’ faithful landstill which I won blue bell 17 with a few weeks ago. Here’s the winning list and the report!!!

4 standstill
4 force
4 drain
2 misdirection
2 mindbreak trap
2 pierce
2 steel sabotage
4 null rod
2 jace
2 crucible
3 lightning bolt
1 hurkyl’s recall
1 echoing truth
1 mystical tutor
1 time walk
1 ancestral recall
1 lotus
1 sapphire
1 ruby
4 factory
4 wasteland
1 strip mine
1 library of alexandria
3 island
4 volcanic island
1 tarn
1 delta
1 strand
1 rainforest

SIDEBOARD
2 red elemental blast
1 pyroblast
3 energy flux
2 underground sea
2 yixlid jailer
4 leyline
1 firespout

Round 1 – Bryan w/ Noble Fish
Game 1 – My opening hand has bolt, bolt, drain, misdirection, standstill, and 2 lands. I bolt early guys then land a standstill. End up hitting 3rd bolt to hit a predator. Then I land a jace and get work done. GG
…I sb In 2 reb, 1 blast, 1 firespout, 2 sea, 2 jailer (just as a body to block/attack)
Game 2 – He mulls to 5 and my opening grip has library, waste, strip, fetch, etc. He gets mana denialed and loses pretty easily.

Round 2 – Jason Koresco w/ RW hate
Game 1 – Pretty much same stuff in this match as the first. First game has a couple waste effects I land a standstill then drop a jace midgame and win.
…I sb in 2 sea, and 2 jailer, and firespout
Game 2 – He mulls to 4 or 5 and I beat him with mana denial and card adv.

Round 3 – Brad Jarman w/ Catless shops
Game 1 – He gets a retarded hand and ended up having 7 spheres on table and went through 3 wires, all while sitting on tolarian. So that’s the end of that game
…I sb in 1 sea, 3 flux, 1 firespout
Game 2 – He gets early crucible and gets tolarian again. Gets 2, revokers which meet a firespout, he then sticks a precursor golem, I bolt killing them all, I end up winning with 3x factory beats and a couple bolts he had chalice on 2.
Game 3 – I counter some early spells then land a flux and that was pretty much it

Round 4 – Allen (cutie-pie) Fulmer w/ TPS key vault hybrid
Game 1 – I mull to 6 getting trap, misdirection, force, null rod, library, and hurkyl’s. He goes early recall and meets my misdirection, I start librarying and that was it.
…I sb in 2 reb and blast
Game 2 – I think I mull to 5 and It had strip mine and not much else he beats me pretty quick with turn 2 key vault force of will back.
Allen purposes we just draw at this point bc he is my friend and I was fine with that as he was already 2-0-1 and would rather get another draw instead of a loss. So we draw and we play out the 3rd game for fun and I win

Round 5 – ID with Father Gans w/ Dredge

Top 8 – Anthony w/ Dredge
Game 1 – I have 2 waste effects and crucible, and still lose haha. And he asks me this game to use a dice for zombie tokens aparently he went through the whole day borrowin opponents dice…seems good…so he borrowed tokens bc dredge is lame…anyways
…I sb in 2 sea, 4 leyline, 2 jailer, 2 reb
Game 2 – I mull to 5 him to 4 I believe. My 5 is force, 3 land, and jailer. I draw a blue card and stick a jailer. And draw a 2nd later and that’s all she wrote
Game 3 – He keeps a 7 so I need to get a good hand. I mull to 5 into leyline, leyline, drain, misdirection, sea. I deny his mana after drawing a waste. Then mid game he starts casting guys and I counter some dudes and then I kill bazaar and he loses from there. I hate dredge lame deck so glad I won

Top 4 – Joe Pace w/ Bob Gush.deck
Game 1 – I misplay with running lotus factory out, then sac lotus for blue play rod, then standstill. He forces standstill and I hit 1 more land in a long time and lose. I could have played standstill drain back just got excited for the double play. It was a dumb play
…I have to make up some lost ground now. I sb in 2 reb, and 1 blast
Game 2 – Long game involving standstills and null rods and I think he made a mistake and accidently played a mox cracking standstill and I end up winning there after. Somewhere in this game he plays sapphire, grudged my rod, then went for a game ending yawg will which got mindbreak trapped (thankfully it wasn't the stifle from my old list or I would have lost)
Game 3 – He mulls to 4. My hand is a good 7 of recall, misdirection, reb, drain, standstill, 2 fetch. So yeah it actually was a game surprisingly enough it went to the late game bc he played needle on factory so I couldn’t just play my factories then play standstill bc we could just draw til I deck myself. He goes for grudge on null rod I misdirect to the needle, then start playing standstills and win from there.

FINALS BABY!!! Evan Hundertmark w/ Cat Stax
Game 1 – He mulls to 6, I keep a 7 of waste, waste, lotus, jace, hurk, sabotage, X. He plays sphere turn 1, then I waste his land. He plays factory then passes. I play wasteland tap for lotus, then pass. He plays waste, and attacks me for 2. I know the game is over now. I play jace and start fate sealing him and regain control when crucible lands. And that’s it.
…I sb in 1 sea, 3 flux, 1 firespout
Game 2 – He mulls to 5, I go to 6. My hand is flux, flux, Island, waste, bolt, recall. He plays chalice @2 turn 1, then I waste his land and pass. I recall a few turns later after he plays a sphere. Then he plays the cat attacking me close to 10. Then I bolt the cat. And play flux a turn later. Then a 2nd flux, then a jace, then its GG’s lol.

CONCLUSION – I love this deck and it’s a great choice decievingly very hard to play. I made 2 maindeck changes since the last blue bell I won with this, which was i cut the 2 stifles and added 2 traps. They were insane vs blue today. The smallest misplay and you can lose. It doesn’t have many powerful broken plays like many t1 decks. And that’s why I like it! And I sided dredge hate (sometimes don’t with this deck) and I beat dredge so it was a good day! Not to mention winning a sapphire. This deck is very underrated and ppl don’t think much of it.

Good report it was fun playing your deck in top 8. Don't be hating on dredge though Very Happy And I actually did try to get tokens before the tournament but I left it them at home. Good job winning the sapphire.

Looks like your opponents suck at shuffling. They mulliganed more than I have ever seen in a Vintage tournament. Regardless, congrats on snagging another piece of Power!

Keep in mind I am running an ass load of mana denial so a land light hand or a heavy artifact mana hand would have to be mulliganed. Ppl have to mulligan those hands vs me or they just lose. Or a hand that can't answer a early standstill normally puts me ahead enough to win too. This deck is designed mainly to smash broken blue decks and shops and I beat them and also beat the random fishy decks bc mana denial after they mulligan. Ppl can't leisurely keep light mana hands vs me or they just lose. And I mulliganed quite a bit yesterday too I noted some of them but during the tournament I was thinking how much I was mulling. Thanks

Considering the particular way this UR landstill deck is constructed, it is going to be especially weak to anything with 4 goyfs in it. But I'll bet they were pretty scarce at the tournament.

Isn't this an obvious statement? I played bs goyfs round 1 but was able to keep him off mana and counter his threats. This deck was built to beat broken key vault decks and shops

Strong fish players, yeah, you have no chance. Wink

Congrats Josh, always glad to see when a person's pet deck rewards them over multiple events.  Keep up the good work and keep fighting the good fight!

That being said fish decks are few and far btwn so I take my chances. If fish were a larger part of the meta game the sb and some of the main deck would change but until then it stays  Wink
