Here's the promo card spoiled for Avacyn Restored

Mythic Rare, so it will probably not make a huge impact in standard or draft, but does it have any Vintage applications?

Asphyxiating Blast - 1UU

Instant

You may pay 2 life and remove a card in your hand from the game instead of paying Asphyxiating Blast's mana cost. Counter target spell with casting cost 3 or less.

It can't hit things like lodestone golem or smokestack, but since it just requires any card instead of a blue card, is it playable in non-blue decks?  Discuss!

Seems pretty ridiculous, but I feel like decks already playing Force don't need more bad Forces. I feel like TMWA and other such decks may have just recieved a new favorite toy though! Stops Tinker, Oath, Bob, Trygon, Goyf, Vault, Key, Will..... Jesus. Sick life

Yes.  This will see play.

Vintage is a lovely format, it's too bad so few people can play because the supply of power is so small.

Chess really changed when they decided to stop making Queens and Bishops.  I'm just glad I got my copies before the prices went crazy.

Uh.

This is ridiculous, especially for Legacy. Very hurtful for eternal formats IMO, possibly even as bad as the printing of Misstep.

What kind of promo is this? I read from mtgsalvation that the names of the prerelease promo & buy-a-box promo are:

Prerelease promo card: Moonsilver Spear
Buy-a-box promo card: Silverblade Paladin

If this is accurate, Modern got that free counterspell that just might start fixing the shitty shitty banned list.  I wish it'd been an actual Force reprint, but this is fine too.

I have to say that this card is really well designed, in that it's playable both as a freebie and as an "okay" counter.  I'd never be ashamed to hardcast it if I needed to.

This is nowhere near as bad for Legacy as Mental Misstep.  MM was going in lists that it had no rightful place in, so that it could counter opposing Mental Missteps.  That's retarded.  Also, since decks like Burn can win, and "Aggro-control with good cards" defines most of any random metagame, any free counter that hits the caster for 2 and is card disadvantage isn't going to supplant Force, or Daze, or any myriad of counterspells.  I think people will try and pick between this and Daze, and I think that situationally one will be preferable to the other, but by and large I see it 'getting played' in Legacy and not being that damn big a deal.

My guess is that this is a troll post.  I'm willing to rescind that guess with the presentation of proof.  I doubt I'll need to.

Considering two pieces of information, the first being the names of the two Prerelease and the Release card, neither of which is this.  The second being, that they no longer print Mythics as promo cards (as stated here), I think this rumor is pretty baseless and frankly not believable in the slightest.

This can't be for real. If Wizards acknowledged that Misstep was a mistake, how can this card be justified? It is ridiculously powerful.

Couldn't agree more. I for one don't think this is real at all, just like the majority here think as well (I even did a couple of web searches trying to find a corroborating source with no result at all). However, IF it is real.....Holy hell!

I don't think this is real. Wizards doesn't even use the ``casting cost'' terminology anymore.

The promo cards for Avacyn Restored have been spoiled and this card is not amongst them.  There is no further evidence of this actually being a card to be found outside of a mention on Twitter and a thread on MTGSalvation - both of which were responses to this thread/after this thread was created.

No action is being taken, yet, though the staff reserves the right to take action in the coming weeks regarding this thread.  Dreaming up a card and then calling it the promo card for the set would be very frowned upon and I would caution any users who would consider doing something like this to think again, as there will be consequences.

This thread has been locked.
